    The writing paper for the first one was not that bad; although finding good resource was though. The other difficulties I had on my first essay was the organization it seem to get hard for me when I jumble up all my topics. I am working on getting more organized and trying my best to find a method to do so. The second research paper (that I have not started) seems more difficult because of the sources. Although I might change my topic because my interest just changed over the weekend. I am planning on gender discrimination. The reason why it caught my attention is because I read a story of the difference between raising a female child and a male child. Since I have a 5 year old I will definitely learn something that I will use now and in the future.

Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

   The program CHIP is a program that works closely with Medicaid. This program provides low cost insurance coverage for children whose family earns too much income to qualify for Medicaid coverage. CHIP provide free of charge well check-ups, but there may be copayments for particular services. CHIP includes services like routine check-ups, immunizations, dental and vision care and laboratory and x-ray services. Certain states charge a monthly premium for coverage; each state has a different percentage but cannot be more than 5% of a family’s monthly income.  The most recent published article regarding the CHIP Program is titled “Income Eligibility Thresholds, Premium Contributions, and Children's Coverage Outcomes” researched by HSR: Health Services Researchers. These researchers examined the interplay between income-eligibility thresholds of up to 400 percent federal poverty level (FPL) and various contribution combinations on coverage rates. They used the federal Current Population Survey and collected labor market, sociodemographic, as well as health insurance data on households. The outcome is out of 42,806 children in their statistical sampling of families with less than 400 percent FPL, 39 percent were publicly insured, 55 percent privately insured, and 12 percent uninsured. Among those imputed to be eligible for public insurance, 71 percent had no premium, 17 percent low premium, seven percent medium premium, and five percent high premium.

  Any adult should be permitted to carry a concealed weapon.

  I disagree I do not think any citizen should be able to own a concealed weapon. I feel that there needs to be more research done on the adult who desires to own a weapon. The research should be done by the seller who shall take lesson on how to evaluate their customers and should really dig deep into their information to release any type of weapon.  A mental test and background test should be a must! And the buyer should be tested once a year. This may help United States track down the insane and psycho people who think it is ok to take innocent lives. According to a July 2001 peer-reviewed study appearing in Accident Analysis and Prevention by Matthew Miller, In Virginia Concealed weapons permits are no longer part of the public record, but the state can still release "statistical reviews, abstracts, or other records containing information in a comprehensive form”. As per “the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology by David McDowall, PhD,  Adults who carry concealed handguns are often inadequately trained. Some states do not require any hands-on training before receiving a concealed carry permit. Public safety should be left to trained police officers who are less likely to shoot innocent by standers. There has to be a way to control these weapons from ending up in the wrong hands. Carrying a concealed gun increases the chances of a confrontation increasing and turning deadly. Although the mental test and background tests might be a hassle for the employers and employees, I really believe it can decrease the number of innocent deaths.

I finally chose my topic for this semester’s essay. I will be writing about Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder also known as ADHD. I am planning to specificly write about children with ADHD. The reason I am picking this topic is because I feel that as a parent and an aunt of seven I should be fully informed which I am not at the moment. I plan to write an informative essay; I have been surfing the web and I’m sure I will have enough to write about. My first point will be to inform what ADHD is, Second point I will write about how children are diagnosed, third point is how ADHD affect a child’s life and fourth point what new medicine and strategies have become available these past recent years.

Every parent should be aware about Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder also known as ADHD. As parent we need to understand what ADHD means, how it is diagnosed, and how we can learn new strategies for identifying and manage ADHD.

Journal 2

The first two things that frustrate me about my writing is the introductory paragraph and thesis statement. Since the introductory paragraph is the way of catching the reader’s attention, it is one of my weaknesses that I have and really am focusing on. My introductory paragraph takes time for me to come up with. It also takes time for me to be comfortable having peers or other people read it.   Although my introductory paragraph writing has improved I am still searching for techniques to help me spend less time on it and picking up advice and ideas on how to come up with good attention-grabbers.  My second weakness is writing a thesis statement; most of the time I lack of organization and have too many ideas jumping out of my head at once as well as keeping the topics related to my body paragraphs. Also the time I have are not always in my favor I have  a busy life and tend to skip or forget words. I do try to proof read and I have been successful by catching messy and run on sentences. I am hoping to also improve my comma usage, because I know I will always use commas in any type of business I will and am in.

  C. High school teachers should have the right to search students for drugs on school ground.

  High school teacher should definitely have to right to inspect students if they think he or she might be carrying illegal drugs. This right can prevent many problems in school, home and public areas. Parents who have fulltime jobs may not have the time to check little thing like high school back packs because as a parent we always expect that our kids to be perfect; we may not realize what they are really doing outside of school. This right could also help teacher prevent student’s lack of attendance in the future and lack of attention in class. As we know drugs are harmful to your body, brain, social life and financial life. This right would be appreciated by others such as parents, teacher, friends and other student’s parents. This right can also prevent deaths of teens, according to USA today Nearly a quarter of teens, 23% admit to driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana or prescription drugs used illegally at some point. Also with this rule it will prevent exposure to other student and as a parent I would greatly appreciate that inspection.  

The cons against teachers having the right to inspecting student would be invasion of privacy; sexual harassment might be involved, inappropriate touching towards the student. Parents might be offended if their child is innocent and might press charges against teacher or school. Teachers would run a risk of getting offended and physically hurt by the student. It can be a set up by another student  getting revenge on another classmate. Also carrying drugs might be a way of earning income; the student could be selling the drugs. Either way I fully support teacher checking student on school property if they suspect drug use.

Hello classmates,

 My name is Jessica Lopez, I am 23 years old attending Northern Virginia Community College as a full time student. I am a fulltime employee at Fairfax Realty and a single mother of a 5 year old who is entering kindergarten next week Tuesday. I have lived in falls church city for the past seventeen years, but plan to move very soon. I currently have a lot on my plate, but I try to over come the obstacles by staying positive. I am proud to share that I recently became a citizen a few weeks ago. I am taking English 112 because it is a requirement for my degree; Registered Nurse. I plan to minor in business and plan to own my own business in the future. What I expect to learn from this class is improving my writing skills especially when writing research and argumentative papers. I would also like to complete finish this class with an A. My short term goal is to become a real estate agent and my long term goal is to work as a registered nurse at fair oaks hospital.
