The Sun symbolizes the centre of our personality, our heart, who we really are. As the saying goes, "We are not human beings
For instance, in this chart, I have a last quarter Moon in Taurus hanging to the MC from the 9th house side and tightly squaring a Leo Sun in the 12th...

About "The Development of Personality"
I loved reading "The development of personality" - the first of the series of seminars of psychological astrology by Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas.
Through the early stage of development, we can see basics patterns and their correlation with astrological placements.
Life in the womb is shown by the 12th house. Prenatal events will leave deeply ingrained blueprints.
The oral phase is associated with the Moon. We are completely dependent on Mother for our survival - esp feeding. The basic pattern here is trust versus mistrust. In a chart, Moon-Juptier contacts tip the scales in favor of trust, Moon-Saturn and any difficult aspects in favor of mistrust.
The anal phase expresses the pattern: autonomy versus shame and doubt. At that stage, active planets: Mars, Sun enter into play. We have learned to co ordinate our movements and we can decide of what we want to do (unless Mother don't let us) The will is experimented. We also learn to control our sphincters, and to be able to hold on or let go our faeces (in the oral phase like in New Age mentality, it was all about letting go, but now holding on is a way to manifest power) Shame and doubt are experimented when we shit in our pants like babies.
As a Scorpio I am very interested by the issues associated with the anal phase!
The oedipal phase gets Venus enter into play. In the oral phase, love was central. In the anal phase, the will was developed. The dual Mother-Child relationship was the scene. Now the "other" enters into play, on principle the father. The pattern that is activated here is Initiative versus guilt. The child wants exclusive attention from the parent of the other sex and see the parent of the same sex as a rival he/she wishes he could get rid off... and vice versa. The ambivalence of feelings and the belief that wishing bad is actually causing harm creates this Initiative versus guilt dilemma. Strong Neptune or Saturn interference can emphasise guilt.
All these issues will of course be re enacted in various way throughout life, and that's why it's interesting to become conscious of them and evolve if necessary.....
.... Not going to summarise the all book in one post! Have a good day.
"If you're not the boss and you want to feel safe, make yourself indispensable"
Mercury
In which ways is Mercury indispensable in our chart interpretations?
A key question for reading a chart
A key question for our interpretations is "What is it about?"
Sometimes we interpret placements with descriptions of personality traits. We can say that a person with strong Taurus energy is likely to be slow, sensual, possessive, loves nature and beauty, has a lovely voice and other stereotypes that are often true, unless the Taurus placements are so afflicted that we should expect the exact opposite.
But if we ask "What is Taurus about?" we switch our mindset from describing traits to understanding concerns. Taurus is about finding stability and security in the material world.
This includes the question of "attachment", which is a kind of mutual possession (I am yours, you are mine). This can go too far, but can also be wonderful.
Taurus wants incarnation - It's not here to seek for an escape route to an other world, but to enjoy this one to the full if possible.
With the question "What is it about?", instead of a rather static description of traits, we get into the dynamics of a life story.
Another similar questions can be "Where are we coming from and where do we want to go?" which leads to asking "What are the obstacles? Who may be opponents? Who may help? What helps? How is this situation likely to unfold?"
These questions structure any story - from imaginary tales to real life stories. They help finding the crux of the matter when reading charts.
The Skin-ego
Thinking over the meaning of the ascendant, I have just remembered the concept of "skin-ego" developed by the French psychoanalyst Didier Anzieu.
From a psychological point of view, the ego is our sense of identity, as we develop it from the beginning of our life. A baby can't say or think "I" because a baby has no idea that there is such a thing as "I" .... From the moment we were born, it took about 8 months before we realized that mother and baby were actually two distinct persons, one of them being "Me"
This is why I remembered the concept of "skin-ego". The Ascendant could be seen as the skin of our personality.
We discovered ourselves when we recognized ourselves in a mirror for the first time, when we were about one year and a half old. If it went well, our parents were there to say: look! this is you and you are beautiful!
Now, imagine that many years later you have to go to the hospital to get a bit of your liver removed, for some reason. After the operation, you will still be you hundred per cent. You won't feel that this loss of a bit of liver means that you've lost a bit of yourself. But if your skin is burnt and you're disfigured (sorry for the cruelty of the example) you will feel that you are not who you used to be anymore.
Our ego is actually identified with the surface of our body, most particularly our face, our hair, our silhouette...
In Astrology, the Ascendant is our psychological ego, which could also be defined as "the relationship we have with ourselves" by opposition to the seventh house which is about the relationships with others. It is of course in constant evolution.
The Ascendant, the "Rising" sign is the surface of our personality, a surface that is as deep as our incarnated personality, with our face and facial expressions, our looks and our smiles, and all the things we do...
The more we know ourselves and the more this Ascendant becomes deep, whilst the Sun, our real and mysterious spiritual self, is walking on the opposite path, starting from the center of our being and looking for the way to outwards expression...
Let's guess that if things go well, they will meet half way...
Pluto musing
Pluto in the chart shows a point where we can be intense, destructive or creative, obsessed or powerful, go through hell or find the way to heaven and transform the most archaic energies into our own gold....
Pluto brings a feeling of life or death, of magic and fascination to whatever it touches.
Pluto like all planets, is more or less emphasized. Not everyone lives Plutonian intensity in the house where Pluto sits. But if we have planets in Scorpio or the 8th house, if Pluto is angular or receives important aspects from personal planets, if Black Moon Lilith or the Moon Nodes point out at it..... This energy will come to the foreground.
I have Pluto conjunct Uranus and Black Moon Lilith in the third house. Communication has always been my hell as well as my greatest power. I am a public speaker, a story teller, a writer and a perpetual student. I also have a great experience of miscarriages of communications..
Where is Pluto in your chart? How do you live your house of great intensity?
Jesus loves you but don’t worry, I’m just a storyteller… In the 14th episode of my autobiography with astro sauce, there is, as usual, most
Jesus loves you! Don't worry, I'm just a story teller...
To enjoy a good story, you need to believe it’s happening, if only for the time of the narration, but you don’t have to look for people who listen to other stories and burn them at the stake.
Jesus loves you. I am a story teller, I tell stories from various traditions, some are spiritual teachings, some are popular wisdom, some are dressed up as fairy tales, other as jokes, some are Jesus stories…
When I was four-year-old, I loved Jesus stories. At bedtime, my father came with a book. The title was “The liberator”. On the cover there was a picture of Jesus Christ breaking a chain. Recently, I came across this book, on my father’s shelves. The picture on the cover was exactly like my memory of it. My father used to sit next to my bed and read, without looking at me. I heard in his voice how sacred these stories were, and they were enchanting to me.
Once Jesus and Mary had been invited to a wedding. We can imagine them sitting next to each other, eating, drinking and being merry. Joseph had not been invited apparently. The story doesn’t mention Joseph at all. As a little boy, I was just following the narration. I had not a thought for Joseph. It’s only now that I wonder how come mother and son went to a wedding without him.
This is the beginning of the 14th episode of my podcast. Listen to more:
Pisces: the sign of the hood
If I chose another symbol for Pisces, I would call it "the sign of the hood" Pisces and it's related planet and house (Neptune and the 12th) symbolizes the "hidden things" - Monks traditionally wore hoods.
The purpose of the hood is not to hide from the world, but to hide the world from the monk, so they can meditate or pray without being distracted.
Of course, brigands have used hoods as way to dissimulate their faces from the people and go discreetly break the laws and into people's houses. For people, a hood can mean monk or brigand, as the 12th does for an astrologer.
The monk in his own way is also working at breaking laws: he wants to escape from the laws of the senses to break into another reality. Both brigand and monk end up in cells, for one it is in the monastery and for the other one in prison. We can think that the same energy is at work, and that the brigand has become a brigand because he didn't hear the spiritual call which invited him to break laws... but just not these ones.
The symbols of astrology talk about energies. They don't say whether we are going to answer to the "highest" call or chose another way.. which is not necessarily evil.
Pisces and the 12th house also talk about hospitality. Opening an hostel is good business for Pisces. Instead of breaking in people's houses like a brigand, you open a house for people to come in. Monks often had rooms for travellers to stop by and gave medicine and shelter to those in need. So being in the hostelry business is part of the possible meanings..
It's all linked, not through rational logic, but through analogy. Analogical thinking is the way to understand how symbols work. It's never precise but open to many interpretation along a single thread...

Moon and Saturn, Cancer and Capricorn
Cancer and Capricorn are two opposite signs. They have more in common than we think...
The Moon rules Cancer and symbolizes the mother, the mother child relationship, home sweet home, family life, roots, emotional and physical needs, caring.....
Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, symbolizes ambition, the long and difficult journey to reach the tops, (top of social ladder in general through career, possibly politics or any way to get power and social recognition)
In Capricorn, the Cancerian softness and emotional connections are having the hard times of their lives.
However, Saturn and Capricorn are also experienced through mother. In the beginning, we are breast fed we literally eat mother. Nothing is more Cancerian than being fed by mother. But one day, it's finished, their in no milk anymore. We have to eat in a plate, sitting on a chair instead.
One day, mother does not want to carry us anymore. We are too heavy now she says. As we grow up, we become more and more separated, more and more distant... Instead of being taken in charge, we become a member of the family and this is our first experience of being a member of a society.... So Cancer and Capricorn are as intimately linked as the two faces of our relationship with mother. One side is physical and emotional connection - when we are dependent... and the other side is physical and emotional disconnection - when we progressively become a distinct individual.
The individuals with the greatest ambitions most often are those who have been the more emotionally deprived. They hope they will eventually deserve to get their most intimate needs satisfied when they reach the top of the highest mountain.
Making the case for the tropical zodiac as the right one. Equinoxes and Solstices are far too fundamental not to make up the structure of the astrological year. However, we still have a few problems, like... Why should the four seasons be relevant on the Equator, and how come the signs are not reversed in the Southern Hemisphere? And if the tropical zodiac is the right one, how come Vedic works?

With Cancer, things start to become a bit crazy..
With Cancer, things start to become a bit crazy.
Cancer is the fourth sign.
It's also the second first sign: Cancer is cardinal, which means it's a Once-upon-a-time-the-story-starts-with-me sign.
We'll get four Cardinal-Fixed-Mutable stories as we go around the zodiacal wheel.
Once upon a time Cancer, it all starts in Water.
By the way, we are talking a language of symbols here. It's not modern science.
Modern science is good with everything that can be objectively measured, and not relevant to psychic or spiritual realities. For instance it has not been able to explain consciousness.
Sometimes some ignorant claims that science has demonstrated that consciousness was produced by the brain. It's not true. This has not been proven at all.
When you destroy the brain consciousness disappears, and when you destroy a radio, the program can't be heard anymore, however you can't kill the whole BBC staff hitting your radio with a hammer.
Something is sure: you know the colour blue. When we look at the sky and the weather is good, blue exists as a sensation in our consciousness... However nothing is blue in the brain. There may be neurological circuits meaning "blue", like a code...but it's all grey in there.
Where does this blue exist, if it is in our consciousness...and not in our brain? Science can't touch that. But it's there.
Modern science has its limits. What is the equation for the quantity of artistic creativity you get when you sublimate three kilograms of raw sexual desire? How many litres of motherly love does it take to get a baby to sleep?
Science can't say, but Cancer can feel inner realities. It knows dreams and speaks the language of symbols, images, fantasies... which are reflections of the subjective world which is the world we really live in, made of what we feel within...
Feel or felt... What was once is still there, imprinted as our own personal story. Under the conscious, the subconscious...
Cancer is Yin, Occidental tradition says Feminine, taking from outside in...
Once upon an eternal time, all life starts in water.
Aries started as a spiritual sunray bursting out from the sun-heart of the Great Spirit. Cancer starts from deep within material reality, in the womb of the Great Mother...
