“I am glad you deed. Not zat I ‘ad anyzeeng to do weeth zat.” She laughed a little before she nodded when he gave her the total. She got her wallet from her purse before she got out her card and handed it to him. “I am not sure yet. As long as Lucien weell be weelleeng to entertain Oz and me.” She shrugged a little. That could be forever in all honesty.

“I’m sure he will. He’s a real swell guy. Here you go, and your drinks will be up in a moment!” Swiftly, fluidly, Jeffrey began to make the drinks she had ordered, and within no time at all, they were all done and on the counter for her to take. “I guess if you’ve any questions about the town, you can ask me. And most of the people around here are pretty friendly too. ..Most.”

The music reminded her of Scotland and it’s rolling hills and green highlands. Most of it, it reminded her of her mother and she drank her hot cocoa in silence, losing herself in the sweet melodic sounds. “Oh, ah’ve been ‘ere about five minutes or so.” She said, eyes blinking wide. Lost in her own thoughts, he had managed to sneak up on her. “You’ve a lovely voice. ‘N you can really play. I dunnae think I’ve heard music like that since my friend Toby.”

Jeffrey let out a small, nervous laugh as he usually did when he was caught off guard. “Shows how much I’m in my own world, I guess. Ah, thank you! It’s a passion of mine, music. Really? Is that so. Well, I do live music here every Tuesday and Thursday night, if you’re interested! Tonight just so happens to be slow.”

Ever since her brother had been occupied with something other than worrying about her, it left Cara with an abundance of free time that she didn’t know what to do with. Mostly she set out exploring the crevices of the town she was yet to discover. That was how she happened upon a small cafe with melodic notes drifting out the open door. The music and the warmth pulled her in, wrapping comfort around her svelte body. Sitting at a table near the source of the music, she ordered some cocoa and watched on with fascination.

After he’d finished the song, Jeffrey sat back on the bench feeling rejuvenated. Music always made him feel alive. Reminded him he was alive with the effect of transporting him to a whole other world. When he’d stopped making music, he was brought back into the world in front of him and he noticed the fiery red hair out of the corner of his eye. Jeffrey greeted the woman with a smile and a nod. “How long have you been sitting there??”

On slow evenings, Natalie would let Jeffrey play the piano inside of the Brew. Sometimes he’d sing, sometimes he wouldn’t. On this particular night, Jeffrey decided he’d be singing North by Sleeping At Last, who produced some of his most favourite music. Fingers gracefully played the piano as his voice carried on through the almost empty coffee shop. “Let the years we’re here be kind, be kind.. Let our hearts, like doors, open wide, open wide… Settle our bones like wood over time, over time..”

    ➳ ❝ Nice ees… as you may say, nice.” She smiled a bit at the play on words. “Germany? J’adore Allemagne. Zough, I love most of Europe. I am… biased?” German was actually one of her more stronger languages. Which usually surprised a lot of people considering how long she’d lived with her uncle and aunt. “Vraiment? Eet ees so close I almost meesed eet. Aurore.”

“It was very nice! Beautiful, beautiful city. Absolutely adored it.” After writing down her name on the cups, he gave her the total. “Je suppose que vous êtes, oui. Then again, I don’t blame you. Are you here for long, Aurore?”

“I was in Nice for a while. Then I went to France, stayed there with a mate before moving on to.... Germany? God, it’s all a blur, really.” Meedle. M.... Mee..... Middle! When Jeffrey figured that out, he chuckled and nodded, grabbing two medium cups. “It’s right next door, actually. Et votre nom?”

Aurore’s face lit up to hear more familiar words, but then she shook her head for the question. ❝ Non, non. Il est mon ami. Le ami du mon cousin.” she clarified with a smile. “Maybe you know heem? Lucien Abbot?” She smiled at the suggestion. “That sounds good. I will ‘ave that and the espresso.”

“Oh! Oops! My mistake. Uhhhh, désolé a propos de ça. I learned a bit of French when I was traveling,” Jeffrey added, proud of his knowledge of the language. “Lucien! He runs that bookstore, yeah? Alright, miss. What size would you like those in?”

“The music was pretty great. So were the people. Good company can make or break a party.”

“How to make Valya cry 101: tell her you fell asleep while watching Phantom of the Opera. But really. That musical’s intense! Who in their right mind falls asleep?”

“Sorry! I was really tired that day! I don’t normally fall asleep during the movie ever, but I tell ya, partying all night and into the morning the day before takes a lot out of you!”

“Ooooooohh, no, no, no, no. The Tunnel closes that late. I would not be working here in the wee hours of the morning. Natalie’s pretty-- but she’s not that pretty.”

“Of course! I mean after I’m done, silly. Here’s your coffee. It runs pretty late. Like I’m talking really late. Like into morning. Eight in the morning.”

“Good! You definitely don’t wanna be going there by your lonesome. Hey, if you want I could go with you. I haven’t been there in a while, actually.”
