An Amusing Look at How Jellyfish Develop Their Poisonous Sting Used For Hunting
Have you seen an animal in the genus Aurelia, known as Moon Jellies?
I have seen one in nature
I have seen one in captivity
I have seen a dead one/a taxidermy
I don’t know if I’ve seen one in person
I’ve only seen photos, never seen in person
I’ve never heard of this animal
Range: Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific, & Indian Oceans

What has no heart and no brain? No, it’s not your ex… it’s the barrel jellyfish (Rhizostoma pulmo). Also known as the dustbin-lid jellyfish (yes, really), this species can reach an impressive 35 in (90 cm) in diameter and can weigh up to 77 lbs (35 kg)! Like other jellies, this critter relies on its nervous system to function.

I just found out there is a crab that looks like a pancake and now the world seems brighter.
I'm actually gonna cry over these crabs.....
In case anyone was curious what they looked like!
Thought these were completely made up but apparently they're probably juvenile Atergatis integerrimus crabs or a related species. Also most members of Atergatis are toxic because of symbiotic bacteria that produce a tetrodotoxin-like poison. Tetrodotoxin is the reason that improperly prepared pufferfish will kill you. These are deadly pancakes.

Cephalopod Week wouldn't be complete without at least one flapjack octopus video! 🥰
MBARI’s robotic submersibles often spot this little octopus resting on the mud, its orange body resembling a flat, fluffy pancake. When startled by a predator, a flapjack octopus perks up and swims to safety by flapping its stubby fins, pulsing its webbed arms, pushing water through its funnel for jet propulsion—or all three at once. When the coast is clear, it stretches its webbed arms and parachutes back to the seafloor.

The wonderful Glass Octopus. Living at depths of around 3000 ft and only being about a foot long, these strange little creatures are rarely seen by scientists.
