I had someone ask me yesterday what my secret was to get kids to do this sort of thing in the pictures I take....but it’s honestly it’s really no secret at all, I just let them be themselves! Stay young for as long as you can and be silly for as long as you can. <3

I am booked through September....currently booking appointments for October and November. Time to start thinking about those holiday and Christmas cards!!

Just a little thought on Pintrest

I normally don’t do blog posts...I’m not the best writer and I just like for my pictures to speak for themselves. 

I just got a call from a mom (Not the lovely bride above, I’m just using this picture as an example of spur-of -the-moment pictures) who recently came to me for a newborn shoot. I had just sent her the gallery of her baby’s pictures. She told me that when she left my studio, she felt so bad about her baby crying, peeing everywhere, having to stop and feed her, not being able to get the baby to turn to one side...etc. (Which is a completely normal newborn shoot by the way!) She had been on Pinterest for weeks prior to our shoot looking at newborn photos and seeing these beautiful pictures and she wanted so badly to have pictures like that and was incredibly nervous and certain she was not getting any. After looking at her gallery, she was blown away at her pictures, and she couldn’t believe I got the shots I got. 

If you head to Pinterest looking for photo shoot ideas, please go for inspiration, not to reproduce what you are seeing. I especially want to stress this when it comes to kids and babies. You will never get your two year old to skip through a field of flowers with a gigantic smile on their face. But I can catch your two-year old running through field of flowers laughing. You will never get your newborn to smile on cue. But I can catch them smiling. You will never get your 5 kids all under 7 to sit in a specific place for a specific amount of time all holding signs. But I can catch them doing it....and sure maybe the 1 year old has the sign upside down, and the three year old glaring at his brother, but hey, that’s YOUR family. THAT is how Pinterest pictures are made. You make your own. 

And then people can look at your picture and bring it to some photographer in Iowa and say, “I would really like to do this!!!” :D
