#i'm not saying a lot of them didn't like her. they did! i think v3 is a really difficult cast bc so many of them have their own agendas #they're so often split that there's literally a game mechanic about it! i think it's clever and adds a lot #like i do think if kaede had had any of the other casts she would've fared better. she had a cast uniquely resistant to her rhetoric

i actually love ch 1 of this game because it shows hints of kaede's slightly delusionally positive worldview - how she keeps insisting everyone is friends when they just met, how she says in her experience hard work always pays off if you just keep trying (which is why she keeps trying to brute force death road of despair even though it's hurting everyone around her)... i think it's actually really interesting that she immediately thinks kaito is so full of shit if you read his FTEs, though. like they have a bit of the same thing going on re: Everything Will Turn Out Okay! but kaede's still like Ugh This Fucking Guy lmfao

#the thing is i would say generally kaede's worldview is not a bad one to have... i think v3 is showing why it won't always serve her #in THIS kind of situation. kind of challenging the Makoto Rhetoric a little (or Chiaki Rhetoric?).#and how it's going to rub some people the wrong way! they explore a similar thing in dr3 too with munakata #i've seen people describe it as “toxic positivity” before... i see that somewhat but it's hard for me to 100% agree #especially because it's like well then what does kaito have going on. like what would you call that... is that also toxic positivity...?#i think just like danganronpa is always challenging / building off its old ideas (similar thing happened with komaru in udg i'd say)#it wants to challenge the Friendship Conquers All / Brute Force / Hard Work Always Wins narrative a little bit. and i'd say it does!#tldr i actually think kaede is such a down-to-earth and relatable character just trying to figure it out & faking it til she makes it #like she has nooooo fucking clue what she's doing. and that's so awesome

#like kaede would've had to be challenged / had her worldview changed and broken down too!#like yes there is a potentially GORGEOUS character arc for her as a protagonist #but it's just not what everybody thinks it is lmfao #she has to literally get her whole brain rewired

sometimes i think i'm the only one in the world who thinks that a kaede / kokichi teamup in a Kaede Lives scenario would actually be so much more combative and hostile than shuichi / kokichi. i feel like everyone's like noooo kaede would've been so super nice to him and tried to understand him unlike all his other Evil Uncompassionate Classmates... and it's like okay well let's look at the material for 2 seconds

like the real magic of the kaede / kokichi dynamic is that kaede is SO confrontational and a little hot-headed in a way shuichi isn't. and i think she and kokichi would actually butt heads A LOT - it's crazy here that kokichi goes out of his way to genuinely explain his worldview a little here and kaede's like FUCK OFFFFFFFFFF YOU FREAK!!!!!! like no lie, i think kokichi has the capacity to get under kaede's skin EVEN MORE than he gets under shuichi's skin. and i think they'd challenge each other more than kokichi / shuichi would - THAT'S the magic of them. that's what would make them so fun and interesting. they'd just clash 10x more than shuichi & kokichi do in almost an oumota-esque way i think AND just like with oumota (and unlike shuichi / kokichi) i think them challenging each other like this would lead to them being more real and honest with each other in the end, even if it's uncomfortable, and THAT'S the beauty in it. kokichi would piss kaede off in a way he could never really piss shuichi off and that would make their relationship very special & awesome... #MyTruth

#kills me when everyone's like aw i wish kaede was the protag because she was so perfect and kind & would've gotten everyone to get along 💗#like i cannot stress enough how much that was NOT what was happening in that first chapter lmfaoajwefiawje #kaede tries to rally the troops for ONE thing (death road of despair)#& immediately falls apart & starts doubting herself after they push back. she is NOT EVEN a perfect angel or perfect leader #and to see her that way is literally erasing all the most interesting and flawed parts of her character...#like the literal plot of the game is that she is not Makoto Naegi. she cannot keep it all together. the people won't follow her #which is why she resorts to KILLING SOMEONE which is something makoto would NEVER DO. it's on purpose!#these ftes are so awesome because they actually show how NOT understanding kaede is to alternative worldviews lmfao #and how unwilling she is to think more deeply about what kokichi is saying. she's very stuck in her ways #which is why she starts falling apart when her worldview is challenged!!!!!!
