Look at the LIE that is DickBabs, compared to the actual development that happened with DickKory.

I’m not here to say that you should pick DickKory and that it needs to happen again.

I’m here to say DickKory was ERASED and MINIMIZED for the LIE that comes with Babs’ entire RETCONNED existence.

It’s not a Contest. Nor is it a Competition.

It’s just a goddamn Lie.

A Rewrite of History.

A nerfing of several characters just to wedge Babs where she had NEVER been before.

Dick learned things about himself from his relationship with Kory.

Dick learned NOTHING with Babs because it never existed. It NEVER had growth or development. He was OOC’d to be a part of this ship.

It was done for MARKETING. I cannot STRESS that enough.

It’s like this people.

When the Batman films were in development in the 90’s, it paired DickBabs, when they had never been paired seriously before.

It’s like if one day they made a movie where Jason and Donna hooked up and then in order to bank on that movie and popularity and to bank on new readership that might take up comics and want to find something familiar in the comics, soo writers streamlined two universes to accommodate the New Readership coming in expecting things from the movie to echo comics.

THAT is what happened.

They retconned Babs into his “childhood sweetheart” to accommodate that shit.

Imagine a movie randomly pairing JasonDonna. And imagine comics randomly rewriting history to make Donna a part of Jason’s street life storyline when he was baby. Or that she lived on the street after the fire that killed her parents and they knew each other and since DC loves it’s pandering hetero shit, they’re now officially FIRST TWU WUVS.

Hands down that is what happened with DickBabs.

HANDS FUCKIN DOWN.

If you still think that Dickkory not interacting that much for decades and DickBabs being shoved down people’s throats 24/7 isn’t an editorial mandate, then you’re turning a blind eye to what’s really going on behind the scenes.

At DC, editorial’s personal bias and abuse of power dictates the fate of the characters.

Bragging about Dick and Barbara having more canon comicbook works(and non canon) isn't the drag a lot of the fans think it is. After all that the ship is still very much actively disliked. It's even less of a drag when you KNOW the excuses that "people who don't like them just don't read comics!" holds even less water when you know a lot of people hate the ship BECAUSE they hate how they've been presented together in the comics.

Just because something is decades old, writers and editors have tried every trope and retcon under the sun to make the ship kinda sorta work, but not really, doesn't mean they can (and have) successfully motivated the majority of readers to suddenly become fans of something. In fact, if even after ALL of that the ship is still met with indifference and even massive dislike...maybe it's not very good? 💀

Dickbabs is rooted in Pedophilia!!!

Show me the difference between these words from Satanic Pedophiles and Barbara's comment about Dick and little boys.

Reading the Eipstein files and finding out about people in power including celebrities being secretly involved in sexual act and  abuse involving minors makes me think more critically about how certain themes appear (or intentionally included in media/comics by these satanic pedophiles)

‎Originally, Barbara was a grown woman when Dick was still a minor when they first met and their moments in the comics have been viewed by the readers as inappropriate or crossing boundaries to the point that they sent letters asking the writers to stop pushing them.

There's something casually misogynistic about the dickbabs fandom, and how they bitterly assume anyone who doesn't like their ship doesn't read. Actual Babs fans posting all the Barbara related books and merch they own on Tik Tok, proving they like her character, but they hate the ship and it's still "people only hate dickbabs because they aren't actual readers!"

I would wager that the majority of hardcore shippers of het pairings are women. Interesting to assume those of us who don't like your ship don't read comics. All this to say, I never see these arguments extended to the many dudebros and male Nightwing fans who don't like the ship or don't give a damn about it either way. 🫩🙄

The Dickbabs fandom has buried themselves in hypocrisy and blind spots. Two of the most common reasons they mention NightStar "doesn't work" is because Starfire is too powerful and would outshine Dick in his own runs. Followed by the trusty old "she wouldn't be happy in Bludhaven/earth".

On the first one, I don't even have to dive too deep on why this one is (excuse my language) utter bullshit coming from them. It fascinates me how they will dig deep for the excuses, yet justify writers pulling every feat imaginable out of their asses, Mary Suifying Babs in the process, even to the point that she out performs and even outshines Dick in his own damn runs. Worst part is we cannot escape it. Every other panel is Babs being smarter, more capable, and (at times) even a better fighter than Dick. But apparently, Barbara Gordon doing this is peak girl power, a middle finger to the non existent DC writers who find any reason to keep Babs away from Dick (I have seriously seen this BS a few times), and shows Dick finally has the "equal" he's been missing all along. Finally, someone is on his level!

As for the second reason, Starfire is on earth, has pretty much stayed on earth for years, and seems to be doing just fine. If you lot think it's okay for Babs to have a weirdly codependent relationship with Dick, lock herself up in his apartment all day with no job, no hobbies, no friends, no nothing besides revolving her entire life around him to the point her entire identity relies on him, then I don't see why you'd think there's anything wrong with Starfire managing a life in Bludhaven. If those diabolical levels of thirsty characterizations are alright with you, I think you can manage understanding Starfire would cope well in Bludhaven. Besides, I don't think there is a single Starfire fan that would want her holed away in his apartment all day anyway. Most of us would much rather see a healthy hero couple with their own lives and identities. 💕

My thoughts on the recent DickKory vs. DickBabs poll by DC Comics themselves.

But now dc decided to make an official one and guess what, dickbabs still lost.

After seeing the poll results, I honestly don’t think the Nightwing fandom is split in half anymore. If it were really split, Barbara would’ve gotten atleast 40% ??? That would’ve made it look balanced. But 17%? That’s a pretty big gap.

So this feels more like a silent majority vs. a loud minority.

High polls like this just prove Dickbabs is not an iconic beloved relationship like DC wants to portray them. The Majority never asked for it except a small vocal minority and a persistent Bat-editorial.

I'm sorry but it’s actually ironic. DC and the Bat-editorial spent years putting too much effort into pushing these two. They’ve made more comic panels and variant covers for them in the last five years than for A-list couples like Superman and Lois Lane. They’ve shoehorned Barbara into Nightwing’s solo every single issue and story arc. They’ve forced their relationship into more than 10 recent Elseworlds stories even when it doesn’t make sense for the plot and in the end, their greediness didn’t get paid off. Nobody gives AF about DickBabs.

Not everyone who reads the comics likes them either. A lot of fans never wanted to read about them but they have no choice but to flip through pages of corny Dickbabs panels just so they can continue reading the main plot.

Dickbabs irrelevancy doesn't only reflect in high polls.

If you compare the two ships on Google Trends, you will see more people have searched for Nightwing and Starfire on the internet than for him and Barbara.

Last year more people cosplayed as DickKory for Halloween and only less than 10 people went out as DickBabs.

Just this year, there were more Dickkory fan arts for Valentine’s Day than Dickbabs.

Even Dickkory fan-groups on social media have way more members.

Literally nobody asked for DickBabs except a loud, vocal, in-denial minority who still think they’re superior.

What fans want is diversity and interracial shipping. They want Dick to fall in love with the alien space princess who was a slave and immigrant not another typical glorifed white woman you always see everywhere in the media but DC refuses to give them what they want because they're biased and racist and xenophobic asf.

I want her to be the manifestation of his regret, of his longing for a different life, a counter to his obligation to Bruce: his obligation to his parents. Wouldn’t they have wanted grandkids? Wouldn’t they have just wanted him to be happy? I want her to be what he thinks of when he’s lonely, when he’s hurt, when he wakes up in a hospital and for a split second, before he opens his eyes, think maybe? and come to realize that one of the nurses must just use the same shampoo. i want him to see her on magazines and billboards and just ache. i want him to wish that donna would mention how she’s doing when he calls and then regret even asking because hearing it: good or bad, hurts too much. i want him to work a child trafficking case and be sick the entire time, unable to get an eleven year old version of her out of his head. i want him to finally break said case and sit in the station hallway with his forehead in one hand and cell phone in the other and wish so hard that he could and know that he can’t.
