You know the way in rhythmic gymnastics the Russian and Belarussian athletes are back competing under their flag (I hate it) I am really surprised that figure skating of all sports still did not welcome the Russians and Belarussians back apart from the Olys, which was not entirely on the ISU but IOC.

At least the Ech in Varna showed that even in a sport that was dominated by Russian gymnasts for decades (and basically no other country until 2017, where things started to get a bit less predictable result wise, had any chance of a Gold or Silver at Worlds or Euros) other countries have catched up and the results at the Ech showed that performing under a Russian flag won't guarantee a Gold medal. They did win medals, but that's very very different to what happened before the ban. They are now just like any other powerhouse in rhythmic gymnastics and that makes me slightly hopeful for this sport, but also for figure skating.

I don't wish for the return of the Russians (though I do not resent the ppl for wanting to do their sport and have nothing against the athletes that still have to live and deal with the system. My feeling is totally political here) BUT I am not delusional when so many other sports have welcomed them back under their own flag as if nothing happened. I just never thought that the ISU of all sporting governing bodies is one of the last ones standing.

The German broadcast of the AA final was lowkey embarassing 🙈....like you learn absolutely nothing about how the scores are working...she says the names of some obvious elements like the Raffaeli turn but had other names of elements completely wrong or just basic like "she is good at turns" like as if there is only one element with a turn ...she could not tell Alina Harnasko and Alba Bautista apart bc she had it wrong on her startlist even though Alba Bautista's name was displayed on the video in the background on the scoring board in bold letters. She corrected the mistake when Alina stepped on the floor...yet so many mistakes...argh

I have to give it to her that she is nice and respectful to all gymnasts with a slight bias towards Dasha which is ok considering it's a German broadcast and that she shared a bit background story from Dasha and Sofia Raffaeli, but still I dearly miss @ discussing.rg.podcast (Insta) who did the commentary on Eurovision in German for the quali a couple years ago and they were just always 100% on point and you could learn so much and they had stories about everyone and even asked the gymnasts what they would have liked to be shared about them. 😭
