I know I haven’t been keeping my obligation of keep this blog up to date as often as I had promised, but life has been a roller-coaster that has had more downs than ups for me lately and I haven’t been able to keep up with it at all and I apologize profusely. However, I have much to say, last Tuesday was one of the first times I had been able to sit down and watch Jeopardy! in almost three months. I was feeling incredibly down and thought I would return to some old comforts for once. I had gathered my Classroom Jeopardy! signaling device and a sheet of paper to play along, as I usually do when I watch, preparing myself for an ordinary episode. It was a normal experience for me until the return from the first commercial break, where contestant Cindy Stowell timidly remarked about her obsessions with horrible films. Being a trash movie buff myself, I immediately connected with her and chuckled as she tore one of my favorite childhood films, the 1986 “Transformers” anime film, to shreds. I became enchanted with her as the game went on and with each response she gave. She had this warmth and optimism that sort of was contagious for me, despite the fact that I was watching something that was taped months ago. I started to actively root for her, becoming more excited when she scored that “Red Dawn” clue on the Daily Double, and was immensely delighted when she had won the game that day. I felt like a friend had been victorious and couldn’t wait to see how she’d do the next day. About 5 minutes before that Wednesday’s episode was set to air in my area, I checked the J! Archive to test some wagering strategies that had suddenly popped into my head. It was there where I had been greeted with the news that Cindy had cancer and had passed away nine days earlier. I was heartbroken seeing such a bright, sweet woman leave before she could actually see herself achieving her life long dream. I watched the episode that night with teary-eyes and kept remarking about how unfair life was. It wasn’t until she won again that night where I could really see the strength in her eyes. Here’s this woman who knew she hadn’t much time left and did what she really wanted to do in life and was very successful at it and I just couldn’t help but be inspired by it. This inspiration brought relief and happiness to my face as I witnessed her win again and again. As I saw her run end tonight, I couldn’t help but just be honored to have witnessed her live out her dream and how much it inspired me. I’m so thankful for the positive for the impact that she had on not just me in my dark time, but on everyone she reached either personally, on the show, and those who will benefit from the cancer research that her winnings made happen. So thank you, Cindy Stowell, I hope you’re enjoying the big quiz show in the sky.

Honored to be featured. Here's the hair in all its glory.
I was expecting him to just do the thing where he taps the notecard on the podium and says, “…okay.” Which is great, but this was much better.
