"Sure! Why not~~? I don’t have any better things to do anyways!" she said, shrugging. "Orihara Mairu!~ And you are~?" she grins, looking up to the stranger. She is always loud, though she isn’t very ‘friendly’. She seems friendly, but in reality she is just plain rude.

"Orihara Mairu? And what does that mean I should call you, then?" He didn't exactly recall the levels of formality that were usually used here--it had been a long time since he had needed to call them from memory. "Just 'Jepp' is fine." He smiled slightly at that, head dipping forward into a nod; the observed politeness was so ingrained into him that he couldn't help it.

As he looked at the headline he felt a sense of uneasiness at the other’s presence—he seemed pleased by the fact that there was a death. Amongst this fear Sehun began to reason his way out of it, as he did with most things that gave him discomfort. Glancing over towards the street, his mouth began to ramble. “S-So close to home? If you mean in Seoul… it’s a very big c-city. Not only that, it’s a big city with around…”  Pausing, he thought of the last time he had read about the city. “…ten million people so it is inevitable there w-would be a percentage of people with homicidal tendencies. T-therefore murder wouldn’t b-be completely uncommon—despite h-how unfortunate that is.” His eyes darted back to the other male, his lips pressing into a flat line before he spoke again. “I… I wouldn’t call it interesting, but unfortunate.”

"Seoul is a large city, yes." Jepp shrugged slightly. "It's to be expected that there are a large number of crimes, homicides and all other kinds, you're right. But the ones that the media pays more attention to are the ones that aren't quite normal. How many of them are quite that violent? And how many times is an upstanding member of society murdered in her own home? It just makes it worth buying the paper for a change, rather than reading the usual slew of political stories that don't change with any rapidity." One of his eyebrows raised, wondering if he wasn't making the poor boy nervous accidentally. He had never had much tact to start with, and he seemed to be a bit out-of-touch with it lately. "It is unfortunate, too." The amendment to his words seemed a bit off-handed, shaking his head. "But that doesn't mean that it can't also be interesting. What's the phrase--it's like a train wreck. You just can't look away from some things."

Foreigner-- well, that described him more than this girl probably thought. "You would do that?" Jepp sounded faintly amused now, mostly by her apparent excitement. "I would certainly appreciate it. There's nothing I dislike more than getting lost in a new place. What's your name?" He tilted his head slightly with the last words, giving her a curious look.

“You’re w-welcome…” As soon as Sehun noticed that the other was examining the book, he felt himself tensing slightly, just out of fear of the newspaper being damaged. It contrasted quite a bit with the annoyance that he felt moments ago, and as soon as he heard the newspaper appeared to be in a passable condition his shoulders relaxed. “Ah… it c-can be rather hazardous in this city to w-walk around without your eyes ahead…” It was something the blond knew all too well, but he wasn’t going to let the other know that. “What—murder story? T-There was a homicide?” The boy did his best to watch what he could of the news in the morning and evening, though he knew he didn’t catch everything.

The soft stutter in the boy's words was almost irksome; Jepp's eyes flashed toward him for a second before the other's sentenced trailed off. "Oh, I'm sure. I'll have to remember to pay attention to it in the future." Flipping open the paper again with a slight smile, Jepp's fingers traced under a headline for the other, giving a lazy shrug. "You hadn't heard about it? I guess it's relatively new news still..." His expression was darkly amused as he read across the words. "I guess some girl got her throat ripped out last night. The police are holding tight onto the details, but it's still interesting to follow a case like that when it's so close to home, isn't it?"

While Sehun loved reading more than he did speaking to others, he could not fathom how someone could read whilst walking down the street, especially down the streets of Seoul. Looking at the person he had bumped into, he gave him a slightly confused look; while he had gotten lost in his thoughts the other seemed to be more at fault than he did. Feeling slightly annoyed himself; he reached down to pick up the newspaper and handed it to the other after standing up. At his comment, again there was a shot of annoyance that ran through the blond. This was rare, but Sehun did not like having the blame put on him when he felt the other party was far more at fault. “Yes… h-here.”

"Thanks." Jepp's expression flashed into a smile, though it did not quite reach his eyes; straightening the pages, he gave it a critical eye, making sure that the fall hadn't damaged any of the text. "It seems fine, at least." With that comment, he folded it in half again, tucking it beneath his arm. Looking from the page back to the blond stranger, he added: "Perhaps I should leave skimming articles for when I'm not walking, hmm?" His tone was almost sardonic, hardly serious at all. "But it's interesting. I love a good murder story, all things considered." And his smile widened faintly, shrugging slightly.

Regrettably, Adrian had neared the register around the same time someone else had walked into the store and claimed first in line to make an order. His lips dipped a bit into a displeased pout, but he figured it wasn’t so much of a bad thing if he got a couple more minutes away from his work. Lifting his head, he decided to review the menu again in case he was in the mood for something beside his usual Caramel Latte, patiently waiting for his turn. When he reached the counter, he already found his lips forming the request for his usual, and plopped down the exact change for it. He was frugal like that, since money was never something he had an abundance of, and made his way over to the pick line. It was at that moment that he remembered his unattended documents, and choose to take a peek at them to ensure they were still there. They were, but so was someone else shifting through his files. He took a step to react, but already he heard his order being called, so he awkwardly traced himself back to retrieve it before making his way to the unidentified man. He’d feel better if he was caffeinated while he handled this.

When he approached, he made sure to be prepared in case the other would try to escape, knowing he’d have to sacrifice his latte if it came to that. Hopefully though, if this was handled well, he could get through this without it turning into a problem. “Excuse me Sir, that’s classified police documents that should not be seen by the public. Regrettably I have left them there, so you will not be faulted for anything you have seen up until now, but I’m going to have to ask you to step away from them.” Adrian chose the formal approach when dealing with his own blunder, and hoped the authority in his tone would invoke the other to follow his request despite him not being in uniform.

He then took that moment to glance at the page the stranger had been reading, noting the brutalized image of Park Kyungjin that now sat on top of the files. The picture was gruesome and unreleased to the public due to its gory nature, causing even some of the senior officers to have trouble holding down their lunches. It hadn’t bothered him so much as it was intriguing to him, and that’s probably why most of the cops he worked with in the states called him a sick mother fucker. It was a bit out of place for him to ask, but his curiosity got the best of him when he broke out of the intimidating cop character and said to the other. “That’s Park Kyungjin, her attacker mauled her to death like an animal. It was almost like the killer tortured her in the process, ripping out vital organs and letting her bleed to death. Most people would retch at the sight of her like that, but you seem to handle it pretty well.”

Thumbing through the files, Jepp chose a stack largely at random, shifting through them to look at anything that made sense to him. There was a picture in this stack of the body—he discarded that, putting it back on the table as uninteresting. It wasn’t as if it was something he hadn’t seen before. The police had noted all of the usual peculiarities—the sudden upheaval in her life that had led right to her murder, the radical changes in her life that seemed totally senseless. It was interesting seeing someone else trying to line up the pieces, but any cop who suggested the real missing link, brokering a deal with a demon, would either be laughed out of the office or referred for a mental health assessment. It was why he was so unafraid of going through the files of the murder that he had committed. What evidence could they really have on him?

The sound of a man’s voice made Jepp look up, eyebrow raising at the sight of the cop who owned the files. His eyes dropped back to the piece of paper, thumb rifling through the pages one last time before he returned them to the table. “You shouldn’t leave thing like that laying around for anyone to see,” he said, his tone falling into something almost lighthearted in the face of the authority, almost joking. “What if the perp was around? He’d know everything that you had on him.” Not that you’re getting anywhere, really.

Hearing the other break from the rigid formality, a real smile quirked up the corners of his lips. “I know who she is. I read the papers, who doesn’t? They didn’t publish anything like that, though.” A twitch of his fingers gestured toward the picture that lay between them, shaking his head just slightly. “Whoever killed her is one sick asshole. They really tore out her internal organs?” He hadn’t meant to be so brutal—it just had been a sloppy kill. He had misjudged his new form’s power for the first few times he had gone hunting. Though, to be perfectly fair, he still didn’t have perfect control over it. There was something appealing to him still in the savagery of a hunt that made him not particularly care about meticulousness.

Jepp’s shoulders rose into a shrug at the last comment, wracking his mind for a good lie. “I watch a lot of horror movies. I’ve got a strong stomach.” The words felt a bit weak even as he spoke them, but he just covered that up by continuing to speak, hoping the cop would let it go. “So, humor a little curiosity. Do the police have any leads on her killer? Or is it as dead-end as all the newspapers were making it sound for a while there?” The lack of images aside, the media had caught onto a good murder story, particularly of a former corporate princess. It made for entertaining gossip. Hopefully an officer that went far enough against protocol to leave files laying out in the open wouldn’t mind humoring him a bit further. It was easier than deciphering pages of code.

Two months on the job and Adrian already found himself in a slump, presented with a case he could only hope to solve. He almost detested himself for thinking it’d be a good idea to start promptly at the beginning of the year, but back then he didn’t imagine that the agency would dump all this work on “the American cop boy from California” as they called him. Well whether he was in Korea or America, he was glad to know that neither their customs of picking on the new guy, or their uncreative nick names changed. But the teasing wasn’t so much of the problem as was the fact that the moment he had finally found himself an active member of the homicide investigations task force, they happened to assign him to the coldest case that even the best detectives didn’t want. The criminal responsible for this one was well experienced, Adrian had to give him that one even if it was torture that the guy was still on the loose and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency had little to nothing on him. For that reason nobody wanted this case, the ambience of shame that hung around it, and the association of failure that clung to it whenever the murder got away with another one. He got it because he was the new guy and he hadn’t known any better at the time, but the lack of enthusiasm his colleagues gave should have been a telltale sign. One of them had been kind enough to tell him that they probably just put him here for now out of not knowing where else to place him, but if he worked hard enough he could get out of it and be put on a ‘real’ case.

So he choose that Saturday to ruminate over the case at a cafe near his place, his files on it messily placed over the table he occupied. It was his day off so he was without his uniform, but instead in attire lazy enough for him to have been mistaken for a College kid, though his age definitely fit within the range of it. He probably didn’t have to work on the case off his shift, they obviously weren’t paying him enough or that, but he decided to bring himself up to speed on the killer’s victims, seeing if there was any connection to be found. Of course there was none, but when they gave him the task they told him that “what this case needed was a new pair of eyes”. His next sigh of exasperation came out much louder than he expected, bringing him out of his train of thought. A quick scan of the place informed him of how vacant the shop was at this hour, so he decided to risk leaving his documents unattended for just a moment while he went to get himself another cup of coffee.

The world was a dark and terrible place, full of twisted deals and lies and things more disturbing than most ever cared to think about—but at least there was coffee in it. Such were the thoughts of Jepp as he opened the door to a café that he had located earlier in the week. They brewed their coffee nice and strong and hot, just the way that he liked to drink it. Strong as sin and black as death.

Unfortunately for him, the shop was deserted when he walked in, except for some man standing at the counter; the barista seemed to have vanished into a backroom, or out into the alley for a smoke. If he cared, he could have stolen a cup of coffee, but it wasn’t as if he was short on the money these days. Sauntering across the room, Jepp’s fingers brushed across the surface of one of the tables. One of them was covered in papers; that drew his interest, moving closer to pick one of them up. It was a case file, full of carefully-typed details and codes that meant nothing to him. But the details rang a certain bell in his memory, and Jepp almost had to choke back laughter.

He recognized the name of the victim—Park Kyungjin. She had been the daughter of a company executive, a princess groomed for her role, apparently. He hadn’t been the one to broker the original deal with her; he had just seen the aftermath. You would think that a girl given the world as a gift would want for nothing, but as it turned out, she, just like everyone else, had something to sell her soul for. The princess of a powerful company wasn’t allowed to marry for love, especially not when the love of her life was a grungy musician she had met at her high-class college. So she had sold her soul in the most romantic—and stupid—love story that Jepp had ever heard of. She had asked for her entire life to be rearranged, giving up her title and fortune in exchange for his successful music career. And of course, the supposed love of her life had cheated on her with one of his groupies, and left their entire relationship in shambles. She had been killed by his hand two weeks later, in her boyfriend’s apartment.

He would have killed to see the look on the man’s face. But unfortunately, the universe’s tendency to tailor toward his sense of black humor wasn’t quite high enough that day.

Leaning back on a table, Jepp smiled slightly. So the police were looking into this case? Replacing the sheet, he couldn’t help but wonder—did they have any other leads? It would be hard to catch a killer who didn’t even possess a murder weapon most of the time—that was the good thing about shapeshifting. Thumbing through the other pages, he frowned slightly at the pages of indecipherable text, wondering if it was even worth looking at.
