To all my faithful followers-

Less than a month has passed since I've returned home and with the help of diner milkshakes, homemade mac & cheese, TLC's "Bride Day Friday" I'm all recovered from jet-lag and (mostly) recovered from my bouts of sadness of missing Berlin. I drive back to school TOMORROW and I can't wait to see all of my friends. Of course, it's going to be strange jumping right back into college after seeing so much abroad: maybe stranger than I expect; it all feels a bit like a surreal dream and it's easy to forget it all when you acclimate back to your old comforts. For you and me both, here are my pictures in a Flickr album for easy access. Thanks for tagging along, and until I go back to Berlin, I'll be in touch in the good old U. S. of A!

today was my last dinner with my host family! i don't believe it. they have been incredible companions and i couldn't have asked for a more patient, easygoing pair of people in the city to have gotten to know over the past four months. and damn good food! tonight was gnocchi with ginger-orange butter, basil, and parmesan. right?!?! maja and arne, you rule!

happy thanksgiving everybody!

today, on a whim with a friend, i decided to go to the top of the Fernsehturm (TV tower). usually avoided like the plague, or times square, because it is really only well-known tall building of berlin which makes this area tourist-central at all hours of the day, i decided i might as well suck-it-up and do it. the TV tower was built in the 60's for radio/TV signals, but it was mostly an attempt to showcase Soviet glory or something but it's mostly a big eyesore from the exterior. but it was totally worth it - after spending so many moments meandering through the neighborhoods and getting to know the streets better than i know most than i do even in randolph, it was quite breathtaking to see it all laid out in front of me.

these aren't my pictures (thanks, internet!) but what was most interesting was being able to see the difference in the neighborhoods that were once separated by the wall. the first photo, with a concentrated eye, you can see Oberbaum Bridge over the Spree connecting Friedrichsain on the left and Kreuzberg on the right. the panorama takes you walking around to the east, so the next picture you see Karl-Marx Allee, the big old socialist street where you see typical socialist architecture all along the road.

if you come to Berlin, check it out! although it definitely helps to know what you're looking at. i'm so glad i've had the time to orient myself to this city. now if you excuse me i'm going to go CRYYY
