Tips for Assessment 1

/ Remember that this Assessment builds towards Assessment 2: you’re working on a larger project and this is your first opportunity to produce work for further reflection as you develop your major work.

/ The research questions are designed to be suggestive, exciting, arousing: a place from which to begin and a site from which to build your work. Don’t get too bogged down by ‘answering’ the question in a literal, singular sense. Let the question guide your practice-led research but don’t let it determine or restrain your investigation!

/ A poster is a form with an interesting and diverse history. You have the freedom to push the constraints in whatever way(s) you want. Think about the material, graphic and textual components and how they interact with each other and your developing project.

/ Above all, remember that this is a studio course and this Assessment is an artwork/designed object. It’s not a report, or an ad. It’s a work that’s part of a larger in-progress project, and an opportunity to test out, map, play with and consider some ideas for your second assessment. Think like an artist/designer – what can you do with a poster? 

/ Almost anything is possible, so what matters is how you make the case in the work itself. This course is all about trying to shift the focus from the ‘what’ (what does it mean?) to the ‘how’ (how does it mean, how does its meaning change our understanding of contemporary practice?)

Assessment 3, editing, technically 3rd iteration

I used a basic programming to create a flowgorithm as it’s called ( essentially a flow diagram) that show the process of baking a cake, the program can be played but only accepts numbers as answers, the video above is the whole layout of the program. It’s quite similar to  my 1st and 2nd iteration, through a different set of language i was able to show an entirely new meaning to just baking a simple cake. I'm adding a still snapshot of one of the steps in case the video was too distracting...

Instructions for setting up Assessment 3

Assessment 3 needs to be submitted as a new page on your existing cofa1001 Tumblr.

Here is how to make a new page that will show every post with a particular tag: http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/pages#redirect

We will use the tag “finalassessment”

Make sure you upload EVERYTHING to your tumblr as you go through your experimentation.

Then when you are ready to select/curate the final five iterations you can tag them with “finalassessment” so they appear on one page.

Make sure each iteration is clearly labelled please!!

I wanted to investigate the tiny elements of my world that go unnoticed, plants trees and flowers that I normally just walk past.

I found if I got close enough the images appeared almost extraterrestrial, alien worlds.

I was struck by how beautiful the colors and compositions could be through the viewfinder, I feel like its just a matter of opening your eyes and taking the time to notice.

Uploading the original image first since tumblr won’t let me upload both photos and videos at once, i will edit/add to this post through the comments…but until then…I am experimenting with editing ( no surprise there), but what i’m aiming to do is to transform the original to something else, to create a different effect upon the reader as soon as they look at the image. In the original just from the first image you can immediately tell that this is a recipe, and a recipe for a burger no less. My later edits plays with the language and the format of the original…

If I didn’t upload the original above your immediate thought might have been “ oh it’s a letter” until reading it only to discover that it is the same the one above. i’ve transformed the language in the original post into binary, what do you think of it now? It’s not longer understood by the majority and takes a hassle to solve the puzzle despite the fact that the same words are still being used, it cannot be understood. So you might be feeling a bit confused just by looking at these numbers

Using ‘kaleidoscope’ & 'textile’ as prompt words to develop further iterations

Today’s lesson: repetition Twigs and transforming its (transformed state:paper) into its similar shape and pattern and repeating it, also tried it on a kaleidoscope And did it with my hands as an experiment for fun as well and I liked it, they looked a bit like crabs/jellyfish
