Decollage and acrylic transfer print.
FMP
The aim of my final major project was to create imperfections in the "ideal" image created in advertising.
Women’s magazines create an idea of unobtainable fake beauty, being slim and beautiful is attractive and being attractive is successful. I wanted to put across my own views on the subject matter which is why I am focussing my investigation on specifically how women are portrayed and how this has an impact on society. I have researched elements of gender, identity, and the role of women; as well as experimenting with techniques and processes that break down material and the subject matter. Throughout my work I have used a decollage process- layering pages of advertisements and ripping them. Other techniques combined with the decollage include acrylic transfer print and layering of other mediums such as paint and ink. When I started thinking about how young girls look up to the fake image created by the media, I discussed how successful women in the world for something other than beauty are being forgotten and are unknown to many young girls. Although I am not breaking down their beauty, I still use the process to expose their unknown quality further, and from this we look at the décollage to find something other than perfect skin, makeup and hair to help us identify these women.

Update.
Since I feel like I have completely neglected my blog after being so busy the past few months I think i'll give an update.
Started at Loughborough uni in September on the Foundation art course, since then ive so far had 2 assessments, which ive passed. 3 Fine Art degree interviews- received 4 out of 5 offers, from Loughborough, Oxford Brookes, Kingston, and Coventry.
I have decided to make Loughborough my firm choice and Oxford Brookes my insurance. If I pass this year I will be staying at Loughborough for the following 3years.
I've really loved this year, made some amazing friends, and learnt so much about myself and my work.
I am now in the process of my final major project, which I will share with you guys as time goes on. When I go back to uni next week, I have 13 studio days to finish my work ready for assessment during the 1st week of June. Exhibition 6th-16th June. Results day-16th. Aiming for that Distinction!
Over and out.
Final Major Project Practical Prep.
Top 2- Decollage
Followed by decollage with Acrylic transfer print and scrunching.
These are small scale practical tests, where I am experimenting with the breakdown process of imagery.
Foundation Final Major Project.
After being so busy I've not been able to post, I thought I'd this moment I have spare to share the journey of my final major project so far.
Following on from ideas from the “1+1” and “You” project I started looking at disarranging “perfect” faces from magazines. I crumpled pages and using acrylic transfer print, and then purposely created a new face using features from different women. I will use layering and tearing of these faces to achieve accidental compositions to emphasise the decomposition of an image.
I will bring together elements of print, collage and painting with collected advertisements in a large scale piece recreating billboards to show further breakdown of the “perfect” faces that we see throughout advertisement.
Women’s magazines create an idea of unobtainable fake beauty, being slim and beautiful is attractive and being attractive is successful. I wanted to put across my own views on the subject matter which is why I am focussing my investigation on specifically how women are portrayed and how this has an impact on society. As a billboard is used to show advertisement on a large scale and is literally “in your face”, we cannot escape from looking at it. I want to put across in my work the disarrangement of this idyllic person and show that it is impossible to look this perfect on a large scale. I will be researching elements of identity and gender issues within society and how females are portrayed whilst also looking at how artists use different processes and materials within their work to develop the techniques I use and decide upon appropriate methods to achieve the breaking down element I wish to show.
Throughout my FMP I intend to use acrylic transfer print and potentially incorporate other print methods, alongside layering and removing/tearing away my collected material as an example of collage. I will explore the use of collage and different techniques to include it when researching other artists. I hope to also work in other media; paint, ink etc with the magazine/advertising poster pages to further create imperfections in advertisings ideal image. I will work back over these faces to create the impression they are dirty whilst also investigating the use of portraiture within other artists work to explore how artists present themselves. I will use the studio time to experiment with processes and techniques in and out of my sketchbook to develop ideas within my project to then later include in the final outcome.
