My life of right now.
Now that my head isn't so muddled from surgery and I can put a sentence together without embarrassing myself, let's explain what's been going on. The doctors wrote me down for a "simple day surgery" where they'd pop a camera down my throat, find a place to incision, and insert a feeding tube. Well it wasn't so easy. I woke up feeling like they practiced skinning an onion on my throat. Now they were pulling out the big guns, so who was Mr Big Shot? Anyway, this new doctor said he could handle it, and he did. I have a fistula on my neck that is slowly growing. Anytime I eat, food and liquid fall out of it. The fistula is actually a recurrence of the cancer. There is nothing we can do for it. So that's where I stand now. If anything irritates it too much, I'll go into cardiac blow out and die. That's why I have a feeding tube. It's an alternate method to eat without messing around with the fistula much. Well, that's my story. Not a great one. Thanks for all the kind words the last few weeks as I've been dealing with it all.

Morien: Monster Hunter
Design/Story by URAEUS (Richard Tyler II)
“Sir Morien, the outstanding knight of Arthurian legend, relinquishes his title, and leaves Camelot, following a brutal incident that causes him to question both his loyalty to the crown, and his purpose in life. Disillusioned and dismayed, he wanders the British countryside, where he finds work as a champion-for-hire, specializing in the elimination of mystical creatures.
He is pursued relentlessly by King Arthur and his Knights of the Roundtable, who have been poisoned against him by the wizard Merlin, but finds the most unlikely ally in Ifrit, a vanquished jinn (genie) sworn to serve him.”

You know you’re mixed when people keep asking if you’re albino because your features are native but your skin and hair are ridiculously pale.
Heard that before.

Drawlloween Day 15 - Amulet. Magica De Spell of Duck Tales, wearing an amulet.
Drawlloween Day 14 - Bat. Captain Caveman carries a Bat! I wanted to do something way left field! I knew a lot of people would be doing batman, a Vampire or vampire bat, or man bat. I wanted to mix it up. Captain Caveman with his bat.
I’m very pleased to show these first few pages of the Santoro School Handbook for Making Better Comics that Frank asked me to do a little while ago. This booklet will be 16 pages stuffed full of great info on Composition, Timing, Coloring, the Grid, Geometry and Formalism, and other essentials of Frank’s teaching method. Best part is that this little comics-course-in-a-book can be YOURS for a $25 donation to Frank’s IndieGoGo campaign to raise the funds for a physical school. Seriously, where are you going to find a chance to help build a whole damn comics school for only $30K? This is a steal of a lifetime for the comics community.

Drawlloween 12, 13, and an illustration Captain Caveman. Captain Caveman might be for Day 14 since he carries a bat. :)
Drawlloween Day 9 - Eyeball. Drew Spongebob holding his eyeballs like the monster in Pan’s Labyrinth.
Drawlloween Day 8 - Zombie. Squidward as a zombie.
Yesterday I did my first session on Periscope to do some live drawing. The two sketches were the supplies I used. If you want to watch me finish penciling and inking these two illustrations, watch the video here: https://t.co/rXNgM9eySc
In order from top to bottom of my art supplies, here’s what they are and why I use them. Pentel Mech Pencil with Pentel .07mm blue lead. I love that the pencil in heavy duty, and not a cheap plastic pencil from school. It feels good in my hand when I draw. I prefer .07mm lead because its thin enough, but no so thin that its breaking every second. .07 is still soft though, but it taught me to lighten up my grip when I draw. When I transitioned from Paper Mate Mirado Black Warrior pencils (what an awesome name for pencils) to this lead and pencil, it took a long time to get it to feel normal and not to break the lead every 2 seconds. But it was worth it because I don’t get hand cramps anymore. I used to have bad cramps every time I’d have a long drawing day. My hand would throb at night, it was a nightmare that I chalked up to something that went with the art field. Nope, it was simply my monster grip I had on my pencils. The softer grip now allows me to survive a 24 hour comic day without crying tears of blood from the hand cramps. One side note, I also like Pilot Color Eno Mechanical Pencil Lead Soft Blue, but they are a little more expensive for a little less lead. The lead is tougher and breaks less in my opinion, and the blue is closer to a soft cyan and disappears easier when I edit in Photoshop. But I can’t pick this up down the street at the art store, so I don’t get it as often, unless I’m making a big order on JetPens.com.
Next is Pentel SES15N Sign Pen. I love this for cartooning because I can get a great line quality from thin to thick. A few issues though. 1 It isn’t waterproof even though Pentel says it is. Sometimes the pens from when I watercolor over it. 2. If you use this pen for filling in blacks (bad habit, always have a pen specifically for spot blacks), you’ll run the tip ragged. 3. When the pen runs low, the darkness of the ink starts to turn gray. Things to think about when using this tool. I still love it even though I have those issues. I need to find something similar that has what I like about this pen and without the issues. If this pen were water proof, I’d never use another pen again.
Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen - Soft - Black Body. I love how fine the line can get, but it doesn’t get as fat of a line as the Pentel sign pen. The ink is really dark too. I’ve had issues with it and watercolor SOMETIMES though. its very weird. Read this from what someone said online:
The internet seems divided over whether this pen is waterproof or not. I am happy to report that they ARE in fact waterproof. Presumably on certain paper (perhaps heavily sized?) or in certain environments (more humid?) - and certainly if you apply water immediately after drawing - the ink is less waterproof... but I was impressed. I am not including a picture of my test since it shows absolutely no effect from adding water, only one minute after laying down the ink.
Faber Castel Soft Brush Pen.The tip is incedibly flexible, and if you have super control with calligraphy pens, try this out. I bought it on a whim out of curiosity. But I can’t tame this lion of a pen. So I use it for filling in blacks.
The last two are Prismacolor 01 and 05 pens. They have no flexibility, just solid even lines. I use them for drawing detailed stuff like eyes, or when I shade with diagonal evenly drawn lines, these are perfect. I like to use this for drawing mechanical stuff too like computers or cars.
So I plan on doing more of these Periscope sessions. It was a lot of fun, and several people said they learned a few things watching me work. I was also trying to answer questions when I saw them on the screen. I ordered a new tripod for my periscope sessions. Come watch, it was a lot of fun.
