Some of the progress pieces for my vampires twins au.

OMINOUSLY I had to cut off Kotori’s head a lot to do this. I used art of her from X and then worked to integrate it to match the images I wanted to use. When I got to Hokuto, I realized I couldn’t really do that. But I didn’t just want to stick a bow on Subaru and be like “it’s Hokuto now” because that sucks… and I couldn’t put her in her typical fashion because it wouldn’t make sense in the setting. So I tried my best with my edits to get across her attitude, and I also gave her some accessories because she would.

Even though it ain’t perfect, this set was one of the things I was most excited to share this month :)

TB Seishiro vs TRC Seishiro

So real talk time, despite being a CLAMP reader since 2004, I’d never fully read Tokyo Babylon (only volumes 1-2 were out where I lived and this is pre-organized scanlation sites days of fandom) and I didn’t want to get blue balled by X/1999 (at the time it had been 3 years into hiatus, boy were we not prepared). So my friend just gave me the highlights of Seishiro and Subaru.

So up until last Sunday, the only real context I had of Seishiro was his TRC counterpart and now I am laughing at the comparison.

Because TB Seishiro is this sexy, dark, enigmatic weirdo while at the same time being a smooth and calculating villain with a complex tragic love-story with Subaru.

And then in TRC we get chaotic asshole edge-lord Seishiro whose story is that he essentially caught feels after having what is probably the TRC-vampire equivalent of a one night stand with Subaru, and now everybody must suffer because Seishiro is thirsty af.

More unfortunate is that in the TRC Universe, Subaru’s twin is more about cock-blocking Subaru than encouraging Subaru to get with Seishiro.

And I’m screaming.

I re-read AKK’s Decagram series recently and there were lots of lovely morning coffee scene for these two. so I sketched out and this one is my favorite.

Tried out a different brush on Procreate and loved it!

The Sakurazukamori

I’ve given it some thought, and I’m pretty sure the whole thing about the Sakurazukamori having to feed the cherry blossom tree is just fanon because upon rereaading both Tokyo Babylon and X/1999 I could not find a single reference implying this is a necessity. The only canon thing we know about them is that they’re assassins that work for Japan’s behalf or some such. Whenever we see a cherry tree, it’s usually not made clear whether it’s there or not, which implies to me it’s usually an illusion, which we know he specializes in.

So, basically what I’m saying is, is that Subaru’s “responsibilities” wouldn’t involve feeding a tree, but helping Japan from the shadows as an assassin. It’s a twisted version of what he was doing before, which would make the most sense for the Sakurazukamori and Sumeragi balancing act.

This raises another question: if the world ended in X/1999… Subaru wouldn’t have to really do anything. He’d just have the abilities of a Sumeragi and a Sakurazukamori. Just some food for thought (and my fanfic…)

This is correct! The idea of Seishiro being tied to a carnivorous tree (sentient or otherwise) is widespread fanon going back as far as the 90s. It most likely originated with the story Seishiro tells Subaru when he’s making the bet, either through poor translation or just not realizing Seishiro was repeating a folk tale. And as everyone in western fandom back then was relying on fan translations, word of mouth, and was often introduced via fanfiction, it was mostly accepted that it was canon.
