what she means: hatori is canonically seen as a ‘nice guy’ and shigure is canonically seen as a shady guy but they are both more complicated than that. hatori is kind and courteous but is also one of the key people helping akito. he erases people’s memories when he’s an adult and could rebel if he wanted to. meanwhile, shigure is a bit callous and apathetic and even labels himself as unkind. but he is also one of the only people actively trying to break the curse. he’s the first zodiac member to openly defy akito, he gives shelter to an abused teenager almost the moment he starts living independently and he uses his manipulation skills to ultimately save everyone from a twisted cult. hatori’s intentions are good and shigure’s are initially not, while shigure’s actions are good and hatori’s are initially not. they are best friends that play opposite roles within their cult and they learn similar lessons: hatori learns that complicity is not worth it after it scars him for life, while shigure learns that his apathy is ultimately unsustainable and he starts to expand the circle of people he cares about. so labelling hatori as the good one and shigure as the bad one is an oversimplification of their duality, because what they show us when their lessons are combined is that real goodness is a mixture of both intentions and actions.
