How about we do, though? Pharah’s skins are all about representing underrepresented cultures (how often do you see Egyptian or native American representation in media?), and if people weren’t so hell bent on making Christmas inherently problematic they’d notice that the patterns on her suit are traditional and widely used among the Sami, alas, Pharah’s (and Mei’s) skin has NOTHING to do with Christianity. And by the way, how often do you see Sami representation in media?
Also, if you actually stop to think, you’d realise that there are no reindeer in the Mediterranean OR any part of Europe except Lapland, and thus, reindeer can hardly have anything to do with Jesus, now can they? Reindeer weren’t incorporated into Christmas until the overcommercialisation surrounding the holidays started, because they were exotic to the majority of the world and fit with the winter theme. Seriously, 99% on souvenirs from Lapland have reindeer or Santa on them, and not because they’re Christian - the Sami had their own polytheistic religious beliefs since way before the North was Christened, and largely got to keep their belief due to living so far north and not being relevant to the rest of Europe at first. These things sell because everyone KNOWS of Santa, and since Santa’s got reindeer, everyone knows of reindeer and think products with them are cool things to buy, and also because they’re exotic, remember?
Also, during the Christening of the Nordic countries, Christians gradually replaced old Norse holidays and traditions with Christian ones. Did you know Jesus was probably born in summer according to scientific findings? But the Christians decided to instead place Jesus’s birth on the Norse Midvinterblot, a big feast on the darkest day of the year to celebrate the return of the sunlight and longer days to come (we also call it Jul, nothing Christian about the name after hundreds of years). So in all actuality, what small parts of actual Christianity that actually remain in Christmas are just too small to actually kick up a fuss about.
Sinitarra spent time and effort drawing these, and I’m not gonna let you try to make her art problematic, because as an actual history nerd and as her friend, I can ASSURE you that she didn’t mean anything bad and there is nothing bad or problematic about this piece of amazing art right here.
