Jess Paul's Wrecked Radio is a fan-favorite rock blog and webseries. We spin "Song of the Day" and intro music lovers to rising acts before anyone else. This could be the start of a beautiful, scene-kid relationship.
It sucks when scammers use the guise of a small-time illustrator to siphon your attention and/or money.
I haven't followed the (same exact) link because the intention was obvious even before the messages became a pattern, so I don't actually know what the end result is asking of you.
Watch out for these DMs!
And artists, I'm sorry that these bots are making it that much harder for you to earn a living off your art.
Nothing like a cynical, falsetto-pop song for our current time, in good company with the "Pumped Up Kicks" and "Hey Ya" of their times. I haven't had an honest to gawd earworm in a while, but when I stood around the after hours of a backyard comedy show and heard the line, "sucking on the titty of the city, now it's drying out" over the PA, I had to abuse the play button.
The lyrics are surprisingly clear, but when I swiped down to read them in Spotify, I cursed AI once more for feeding me nonsense. If you wanna read along, use Genius.
Here it is, the real Christmas list you've all been waiting for: my Wrapped list.
The Stream Safe Lofi is only a testament to how much time I spent artistically experimenting on YouTube & Twitch with some of your guys. Since I turned off VOD/replay, I just play whatever I want, so hopefully next year's top spot won't be boofed again.
My actual top artist would be ➕➕➕ who also takes up 3 of the top tracks. Besides, Crosses edging out Deftones as one of my favorite bands for a spell now, I got to see them this year at the Hollywood Palladium and tore up that glossy waxed floor like a maniac. It was the perfect balance of hearing some of their classics from their first album in a new and exciting way and then being introduced to some of the new songs I hadn't quite dove into yet. Since they dropped Good Night, God Bless, I Love U, Delete., all the more opportunity for me stream them into that top spot.
Along with ➕➕➕, Erameld (which I had been reading as "emerald" until literally right now) made this list because I had a creep-tastic Halloween this year. As seen in my last post, I FINALLY made a more chill Halloween mix which is so much more appropriate for many of the spooky events I engage in. Erameld is spooky Lo-Fi that I shamelessly lifted from another playlist that still gets its credit sitting in my Balcony Music folder.
"Overthinking It" was a new find this year all thanks to my boyfriend, Justin. We met in Novrmber last year and bonded over a love of music, swapping recs like I never have with anyone before, playlists with narrative, intention and all the vibes. This song had me asking, how have I been sleeping on Willow Smith?? I could relate so much with the sentiment of the lyrics, riddling myself with anxiety around major decisions. But the song utilizes a reggae beat that contrasts this worrisome narrative as if she's explaining the feeling after she's conquered and made peace with it. It has a similar theme to another favorite I discovered this year, Poppy's "(Panic in) The Attic", but this song uses a fast math beat that matches the sentiment. All said, I'm so glad to have this and many other of Justin's recs now in my Spotify library forever.
Big Wreck and Shakey Graves' "If not for you" are long-time favorites you would find on my past Wrapped's.
I've been working on my Halloween Party playlist for over a dozen years, but it was finally in my 34th year that I needed something a little bit more (marsh)mellow.
This is for all of you who romanticize the brown leaves, pretend the witchy decor isn't all year round, light a candle on a window sill during an October rain.
Enjoy this spooky creep walk of a playlist as you sit with besties around a dim kitchen table eating miniature Halloween candy from the grocery store and smoking from a joint in between scooping out pumpkin guts and roasting the seeds 🎃
I EMBARRASSED MYSELF @ EMO KARAOKE💀... is my next storytime I'll be telling 🔴LIVE tonight on my YouTube channel while making some new punk apparel. The music video for "We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore" is literally Dee Snider defending victims of abusive dads. "We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore" literally has the exact same energy as Pantera's "25 Years," this attitude of "you cruel motherfuckers are not parents and since you're not raising your kids right, we will with the power of rock and roll. Fuck you and your 'traditions.'" Dee Snider testified before Congress in drag defending Rock music from Christian fundamentalists in the midst of Satanic Panic. "Traditional American Values" lmfao
Emo kings "My Chemical Romance" release their first track in almost a decade this week called "The Foundation of Decay". Sounds like their dark roots are as prevalent as ever! This 6 minute sallad (sever-ballad) is reminiscent of epics like "Welcome to the Black Parade" and "I Don't Love You": dark, somber and filled with powerful guitars, drum fills and Gerard Way's "famous last words".
What do you think? Are you happy to have a new MCR song or is it already old hat (or old Hot Topic wristband)? COMMENT BELOW!

"IT FELT LIKE WE WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE..." JESS PAUL ON "THE BEATLES: GET BACK" (2022)
I've trained my whole life to talk to Geeksweat for 30 mins about the mammoth culture icon that is the Beatles. We picked apart the triumphs in the flaws baked into this 8 hour doc that exposed the real demeanors and conversations between John, Paul, George and Ringo at the tail end of their history-making band. What moment of the doc made me drop my jaw? Listen above.
How many reasons can I name to squeal with excitement over this rock & roll, cinematic endeavour: legendary, beloved rock band, kitchy-funny antics, b-level horror gold. It has everything I love, and I might actually venture to the theaters to see this one.
I was plainly scrolling my YouTube Recommended page when a disparity crossed my vision: what was the famous, beloved drag queen (with roots in.... Pittsburgh!) doing out of costume (or maybe it was a costume) in what seemed by first glance to be an indie rock music video? I'm SO glad I clicked out of curiosity.
I would love to know the story behind the decision from an A-lister queen to tip toe out of the standard, vogue-inducing, runway pop fare to try his hand at an incredibly infection pop-rock track: did he want to prove his mainstream commerciality? Did she want to break from the redundant drag queen paint-by-number career path? Either way, it's a sin that this video (albeit simple and minimal) has only 100k views on Youtube.
IDK if this was a one-off for Alaska, but damn do I want more. I've had "wow" in my head all week and I aint even mad at it.

FAQ
What's Wrecked Radio/Jess Paul?
Wrecked Radio News was like a pop-punk version of Joel McHale's "The Soup" that ran 2009-2014, hosted by Jess Paul. Now, the show is featured ~3x per year on Jess's current series "This Is Jess Paul" on YouTube.
What/where can we watch this Virtual Battle of the Bands?
It will be a Youtube video uploaded to "This Is Jess Paul" on YouTube Monday Nov. 15 2021.
What will the "Battle" be like?
For the showdown, Jess will open with the rules then intro each band for 30 seconds followed by 90 seconds (or more if fewer bands are accepted) of their submitted song-video. Each band will have a link in the description for fans to access them to hear more.
Does it cost anything to submit?
NOPE! For the inaugural year, we're afraid no one will show up, so you submit for free and we'll foot that $200. Maybe next year we'll have a submission fee if all goes well.
Is my act/band in the rock genre?
"Rock" can be subjective. We wanted to say "as long as it has a guitar", but we don't like country. Folk-rock on the other hand... see, it's very subjective. All-in-all, we're trying to stay as rock-foused as possible. Since it's free to submit, try your luck. Visit WreckedRadio.net or watch Wrecked Radio News for acts we used feature.
How does my band win?
Audience choice! Each band will have a special code on the screen during their video-play. Viewers will include that code in their comment. 1 YouTube account = 1 vote.
