The kiss set his mind at ease somewhat. It was nice, in a way, to have that instant reassurance. He had spent so long hung up on Josie, and never truly knowing where he stood. He didnât have those doubts with Jess, but he also wasnât about to think too hard about it. For now, they were taking each day as it came, and he was happy. He couldnât remember the last time he could truly say that. âWell, you canât blame me for being worried,â he grinned, stealing another quick kiss from her before letting her go, moving back so he could look at her face. His brow furrowed in confusion, but when she finally spoke the words, comprehension dawned on his face. âAh,â he said. It wasnât the best reaction in the world, even he knew that. It wasnât that he didnât want kids, but never did he think it would be happening so soon. The thought had never even crossed his mind. There was so much that wasnât ideal about their situation. As much as he liked Jess, they hadnât been together too long. Justin was still waiting for the penny to drop and her to run for the hills, in truth. He was a bright guy, but still a student, still sold drugs on the side, and his own family life was less than desirable. He had so little to offer her, and even less to offer a child. âWell, thatâs good to know,â he smiled weakly. Reacting to the fact they were exclusive before her pregnancy probably wasnât his smartest move either. âSo have you⊠thought about what you want to do about it?âÂ
Jess watched, her expression mostly neutral. She was eerily calm about the everything, but that was also just in her nature. Sheâd gone with the flow for as long as she could remember. Did she want to be a mom in her late twenties? Not really. That was never what she envisioned her life to be. However, she couldnât help but think about those parents with overbearing love for their kids. Even Kurt Cobain loved being a father while it lasted. Who was she to cross that off her list when she didnât even know what it entailed yet? âYep,â she replied, eyebrows lifting as she let that hang in the air along with Justinâs words. This was obviously something neither of them expected. She offered him a half-hearted smile back before shrugging. âKind of. I guess thatâs why I wanted to talk to you first,â she admitted, adjusting her position so that she could link her arm though his. âI like you a lot, dude. I know that things are kind of dysfunctional right now, but despite all that, I donât want to end any of this. I donât want to freak you out just because of a positive pee stick either, though.â She sighed softly, her gaze now downcast to her hands where she fiddled with her own fingers. âI havenât make any decisions on keeping it yet or anything, cause Iâm kind of on the fence for both ways. I just...I want to make sure weâre good first before any life altering choices are made.â
