Zuko! Imagined this duology as royal portraits of Azula and Zuko. Royal portraits always enhance the beauty and splendor of the subject, so I thought the artist would have told Zuko to hide the burned half of his face.

This look adds to his early characterization as well, I think. He’s unsure and insecure, while Azula is haught, confident, and looks directly at you with a smirk.

were there people in ba sing se who genuinely didn’t know about the war? kids who had grown up their entire lives safe behind the walls, who had never heard of the dragon of the west? middle ring merchants whose families had lived there for generations? upper ring nobles who had been hidden from the truth by long feng? how the fuck did they react to azula’s coup? to learning that the fire nation had taken the entire earth kingdom, and had been weakening their country’s defenses for the past hundred years? imagine having to absorb that absolute paradigm shift in the span of a day.

and then a few months later learning that it’s all okay actually because that little bald kid who created the cool new zoo in town defeated the firelord, and the awkward kid from the the best teashop in the city subdued that scary girl who seized control of the dai li, and that weird dude who crashed haiku night took down the entire fire nation fleet before any civilians could die, and the cute old uncle who apparently tried to take ba sing se less than a decade ago just took it back in the name of the earth king, and now he serves tea in the upper ring. man, that’s a lot of new info to process .
