Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise (Switch - Rising Star Game - 2020 - FRA) Once again, I found this in a bargain bin and took it, even though I heard it had technical issues. The first game in the serie had quite a reputation for being weird and vaguely inspired by Lynch’s work, so I bought it too on the eShop. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection (Switch - Konami - 2022 - FRA) I’ve never been a fan of the turtles. I guess I was already too old for that when it came out in France, or so I thought: it looked and sounded so silly. Out of the marketing barrage that flooded us back then, it was impossible to ignore the video games adaptations… They were everywhere! Most of my friends got one game or another, so I could try them for myself without buying one. And you know what? Most of them were pretty good, and not the typical cash grab that I would expect from it. Tournament Fighters on SNES is even one of my favorite game on the console! This collection got the major games from the arcade/8/16 bits and it’s pretty neat to have them all in one single package, especially when you see the price of their original releases nowadays. Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol.1 (Switch - SNK - 2020 - EUR) 🌟 By now you should know that I’m a huge Neo Geo Pocket fan, and this collection is a blessing: flawless selection of 10 games, smooth emulation and great features. SNK Versus Capcom is included alongside the full range of NGPC’s fighting games, plus some of the best non fighting games like Dark Arms, which wasn’t already sold separately on the eShop. Sure, there could have been an online mode, or some early black and white games, like KoF R-1, as a bonus… Nevermind, this collection is kind of a dream come true for me, that’s why I bought the collector edition. Well… both SNK and Capcom collector editions to be precise. Disney Classic Games Collection (Switch - Digital Eclipse - 2019 - FRA) I’m a sucker for retro games collections on modern consoles. I had my eyes on this title for quite some time, but I thought it might be a bit expensive for so few content… and so I waited for a price drop. Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (Switch - Koei Tecmo - 2018 - FRA) It sometimes is a curse to be a Zelda games collector: it means you have to get every game in the franchise, even if they are not that good, and even if it’s the third time you buy it. But I guess this Switch version really is the definitive edition, since it has all the DLC content spread across the WiiU and 3DS versions and then some. And when you know the initial release already have hours and hours of grinding, you can literally spend a whole playing just this game. GoldenEye - Au Service du Mal (GameCube - Electronic Arts - 2004 - FAH) Back when I was working at EA in the early 2000’s, I heard rumors about the company getting GoldenEye’s rights. The original N64 game had (and still have) a cult following and I thought it was a clever move to port such an iconic title to the then current gen. And I remember everyone being disappointed by what came out of it: a pretty standard FPS with fun features but nothing memorable. Resident Evil: Code: Veronica (Dreamcast - Capcom - 2000 - PAL) While Code: Veronica might not be my favorite episode, it still is a good game but I never really made a second run after beaten it for the first time. I played the GameCube version, Code: Veronica X, which is not exactly the same as this one. Hence the fact that I had to get it, and I did as soon as I’ve found one for cheap. Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque: La Légende d’Or (NES - Bandai - 1988 - FRA) We were blessed with tons of animes on the French broadcast TV back in the 80’s, and Bandai thought it was a good idea to localize some early NES games adaptations. Knights of the Zodiac is sadly a mediocre JRPG, with heavy grinding and unbalanced gameplay. But worst of all, it was boring and frustrating: why not make a more straightforward action game? All I wanted was to blast my way through waves of ennemies. Guitar Hero World Tour (Wii - Activision - 2008 - EUR) Today is an important day. Not because of this game, which is just another installment in the Guitar Hero franchise, and a good way for me to make my plastic guitar profitable (with a fairly good track list). No, today is important because it is the last game I would review here, at least for now: I have reached the end of my video games collection! My archiving is now complete, and I will now add new games only when I would buy them in the future. A fairly good chunk of my collection will remain unseen here though, because it’s dematerialized and I haven’t find a satisfying way to present it here. Battalion Wars (GameCube- Nintendo - 2005 - FRA) I’ve always heard stories about some game collectors being given old games by friends or colleagues for free, and I always felt kind of jealous about this: why this never happened to me? Well, it did a few months ago, when an ex-colleague left and gave me a few GameCube games I didn’t already own (which is quite an achievement at this point). One of them is Battalion Wars, a more traditional action oriented spin on the Advance Wars franchise that I already played when it came out but never really got into: it felt sluggish and dull, and it was one of the first time in my gaming life that I didn’t care about finishing the game.
