Located in Tuergen Township, Xinyuan County, Yili Apricot Valley (Xinghuagou杏花沟) is a lesser-known yet extremely beautiful valley featuring clumps of wild apricot trees. Spanning over 2000 hectares, it is the biggest apricot forest in Xinjiang and their history can be traced back to the medieval age. From early April to May, they will blossom large and vividly in hues of pink, white and red, which is very photogenic.

Tumblr:
Tumblr:
Tumblr:

I often feel as if the world has temporarily forgotten about me, like the single chopstick that has been left unwashed in the sink, or the lonely umbrella hanging in front of the restaurant that nobody ever came to pick up.
Lu Xun (鲁迅), Diary of a Madman《狂人日记》
Diary of a Madman remains one of the most influential works of modern Chinese literature, playing an integral role in introducing the use of vernacular Chinese (baihuawen, 白话文) in Chinese prose. The diary format was inspired by Russian writer Nikolai Gogol’s short story of the same name, centered around the idea of a madman who interprets reality more clearly than his ostensibly ‘sane’ fellow society members. Lu Xun’s works are representative of the May Fourth movement in the early 1920s that aimed to overthrow traditional modes of thought such as Confucianism and feudalism with seemingly modern concepts such as democracy and science.

(26/30)
today I floated for an hour in salty water, in the dark– 黑暗黑暗 as one does.
and while I rested on a bed of water and silence my mind wandered away.
while it was gone, I thought about the post office, and the old Chinese mailman who asked if my brothers were kind to me 他们对你好吗?
and I wondered what percentage of songs on a playlist I’d love versus just plain like.
我很挑剔吗? or am I not picky enough?
but eventually, my mind ebbs back I don’t know where it went and I forget to worry about these things
so here I am now: small and still so full of inadequacies but with a mind that has gone places I don’t know about 安知非福?
1. 黑暗黑暗 dark, but like with ~emphasis~ 2. 他们对你好吗?are they good to you? 3. 4. 原来如此 so that’s how it is (ish) 5. 安知非福 who can know if this is good or ill fortune?, the second half of an 8-character chengyu: “the old man lost his horse, but who can know if this is good or ill fortune?” (there’s a whole story and stuff)
