ccyoohyeon:

yoohyeon is an awe at the screen, head tilting as she watches the motions. she blinks, mouth parting as a soft breath escapes. “it looks really cool.” she says softly, before clearing her throat and repeating the sentence– worried the girl couldn’t hear her over the headset strapped to her. 

at the girl’s question, yoohyeon shakes her head. teeth pressed down on her lip, she smiles small at the girl, chuckling as she scratches her cheek. “ah. no, not really. my brothers have one, but they don’t let me play it.” she pouts at the confession, a soft huff. she steps away when the other girl gets up, hands clasping behind her back as she beams at the girl when they meet eyes. “welcome back!” she chirps. she rocks on her heels, tongue swiping across her lower lip. 

she eyes the thing with a hum, teeth worrying on her lip. she shifts in place, hesitating before reaching her hand out. “i mean…if you insist, i’ll try!” she slips into the spot, fumbling with the headset before slowly lowering it onto her head. she blinks, the added weight making her turn her head left and right carefully. “wow. how do you work this thing?”

“They don’t?” Ji Hyo frowned. “Why are brothers like that? Do you want me to go and give them hell for being brats?” she offered, half joking but also half serious should Yoohyeon actually want her to give a stern talking to her brothers. 

ji Hyo laughed when Yoohyeon welcomed her back and gave a bow. “Ah, thank you, thank you, she chuckled. “I think it’s easy to get lost in that world and forget about this one. Talking to you though kept me grounded and reminded me I wasn’t there but here instead.”

She was pleased when she wanted to give it a try too and watched as she managed to get herself strapped in. At her question, she laughed. “Okay, you can’t see me but....you know on your controllers there? There’s a button by your index finger. You can use that to point, click, grab, and select things. There’s also a joystick by your thumb. You can use that to move your body.”

“Alright, we got all our ingredients for this and we have a recipe....so everything should fall into place now, right? No errors? No mistakes? Provided we stick to the recipe and follow the rules strictly...” Ji Hyo said, peering at the recipe that she had searched up on the internet. 

“I honestly rarely ever cook for myself unless it’s microwavable or instant or ramen,” she chuckled. “So this will be different.”

There were always moments when Ji Hyo seemed to have a spur of the moment idea to do something but a lot of the times it left her scrambling with a plan to actually follow through on whatever idea popped into her mind.

Today, it was cooking and Mina had been the (un)lucky one who she had seen at the grocery store and eagerly invited to join her.

“Why did we decide to do this again?” Ji Hyo asked, letting the worker lady lead the two girls towards one of the rooms. She could hear music from some of the doors they passed and some terrible, terrible singing as well and wondered how her voice would sound in comparison. 

Ji Hyo honestly couldn’t remember the last time she had done karaoke. “That makes me sound old, doesn’t it? But whatever, lets do it for the hour and see where the night takes us,” she said, because even if Ji Hyo wasn’t sure why she was doing this, she knew that no doubt, they would have a good time. It was practically impossible to not enjoy karaoke.

Once they got their room, Ji Hyo immediately began fidgeting with the lights, trying to set a tone and make the next hour more fun. “How does this look?” she said, settling on a theme. “Feel free to change it if you want,” she said, walking over to the book of songs.

“Lets sing a song together first and then we can take turns? What do you think?’ she suggested, already flipping through the book before stopping on a page when her eyes settled on a song. “Ooh, this one!! We gotta sing this one!” she said, already programming the song into the system. “Come on girl, grab a mic and lets do this!”

Ji Hyo’s long awaited lunch time break had finally arrived and before she could even form a coherent sentence, letting her colleagues know she was stepping out, she was already out the door and heading to the closest cafe for a much needed cup of coffee.

Sure, there was the station coffee, but that just wasn’t the same and she was sure someone was adding too much water to the coffee to water it down a lot. She was pleased when she saw there was no line and quickly ordered a cup and decided to sit there and enjoy it, but she paused momentarily when her attention was caught by a slice of strawberry shortcake that looked particularly appetizing. 

There was a line now though, and Ji Hyo really needed the caffeine so she told herself she would wait until she finished her coffee before making any moves towards the cake.

Time seemed to fly by though and before Ji Hyo knew it, her coffee was finished and the line was gone. She got up and headed back to the counter and was pleased to see the cake slice still in the display case and without a second thought, she ordered it. “I’ll take it to go,” she informed the cashier, thinking that she would take it back to the station and enjoy it a little later on.

With a big smile on her face she headed outside again, her mind fully wrapped around the cake but as she turned a corner, she bumped into someone and stumbled back and as fate would have it, dropped her cake on the floor.

She looked up at the person she had bumped into and saw an unfamiliar face and then looked down at her cake, which was now all over the floor. “Well....” she sighed, defeat clear in her tone. “The world is cruel and unforgiving.”

“You would think that with the way this world keeps changing, things like this won’t surprise you anymore,” Ji Hyo said, an MR headset strapped to her head. “This game is so....relaxing? Calming? Can you see what I’m seeing?” Ji Hyo asked, turning her head to where she thought Yoohyeon was still standing. It was hard to know for sure, since her view was blocked with the virtual reality she had immersed herself in.

They had only meant to go shopping, but a display had been set up and draw Ji Hyo’s attention and she was eager to try the technology. “Have you ever done anything like this before? It’s so....sparkly,” she said, partially distracted still by the game she was playing. Before she knew it though, the timer was up and her turn was over and with a sigh, she removed the headgear and blinked a few times, adjusting to her surroundings before her gaze fell on her friend again.

“You should give it a try! It’s totally different when you actually get into it than it is just watching on the screen.”

Shopping Expedition

Jae loved malls. In the past, he would often find himself wandering through the trade district of the city he protected. He enjoyed any place where he could watch how humans interacted in the modern century. So of course, he had to bring his captor, though he preferred to call her lady, to the shopping center. He would assume that she had been to malls many times in her life, but that hopefully didn’t dampen the experience with him. He chuckled at her words, “Don’t speak such nonsense. I simply enjoy your company. Sometimes it gets a little lonely when you are too busy and do not need my assistance.”

He simply shrugged, but nonetheless kept a grin on his face. It was understandable that it might be strange that he would offer to do something so modern, but hey, that meant he was learning!

“That will be unnecessary. I do not require the currency of this land from you.” Jae replied as they continued to aimlessly walk around. An ominous smile met his face, “I always have coins in my coin purse, wallet, I suppose it is called now.”

When her voice lowered and she questioned if he had ever been to a mall, he couldn’t help but let out a small twinkle of a laugh. With an equally quiet voice, he leaned over and whispered, “In case you’ve forgotten, I work here. I’m a security guard.”

He stood back up and chuckled once more before thinking about her suggestion. “Matching… things? Is that what the modern couple does? They buy things that match?” He vaguely remembered the ridiculously ‘cheesy’ shows that came on the TV often. “But I thought we weren’t like… that?”

Jae’s honesty made Ji Hyo feel a little bad. Of course, she knew he wasn’t speaking with the intent of hurting her feelings or making her feel bad, but she knew that he really didn’t have much he could do when she wasn’t around. “I’m glad you enjoy my company, I enjoy yours too,” she said, giving a playful nudge. 

Ji Hyo considered some things to try and help Jae not feel lonely because of course, that was the last thing she wanted. The only major problem she could see was the way he spoke, though. That would draw attention to him that neither of them needed.

“Coin purse,” she repeated the phrase before chuckling. “Feel free to call it what you want with me, I don’t mind but definitely be careful about everyone else...it’d be best to stick with wallet when it’s not me,” she suggested, again, not wanting to draw attention to him. 

As he matched her tone and whispered back, Ji Hyo offered a sheepish expression and shrugged. He was right, after all. Clearly she had been working too much to forget such an obvious thing. “Well you’re not wrong,” she chuckled. “But hey, there’s lots of things you can do in the mall when I’m not here. You know since you work here but they have demos happening sometimes and you can try new things and of course, like now, you could go shopping,” she suggested. But of course, he likely did these things and had grown tired of them.

“Couples? Well....I mean, yeah, that’s true,” she frowned. “We definitely aren’t like that, you’re right. For us, it’d be friends dressing the same. We don’t have to wear it in public together or anything but at home just for us, it’d be nice.”

“i thought it was a doctor’s job to tell me when i should seek professional medical help,” he can’t help but mumble the words rebelliously, chin stuck up pridefully like a child who refuses to accept his scolding. jinyoung wants nothing more than to flee, to run away from the hero and hide and not have to worry about capture and all that may come with it. nothing scares him more; the few seconds he had been a captured card were the most painful moments in this new life.

he almost brags about how contagious he really is, how what he was in the past could take down nations, destroy entire communities, how when he was sealed away his impact lasted on the world and decimated populations again and again. but for the sake of his freedom, jinyoung holds his tongue. he sucks his lower lip between his teeth and tries to resist the urge to sniffle again.

“pollen,” he replies immediately. “it’s worse in the spring, but there’s fall allergies too, you know,” that much he’s confident in; he wants to be a doctor someday, he may as well know something about his own fake ailments. although, too late he realizes that it could be read as avoiding giving her proof of his supposed humanity, evading her company.

“So does your mother have no right to claim you’re sick? How do you think doctors work? Even they were just regular people until they studied, does that mean if they weren’t a doctor and told someone they should see a doctor it doesn’t count?” she questioned, a part of her noting that even though she knew she was right, perhaps the way she was going about it was a bit immature. 

As he explained the source of his illness, Ji Hyo nodded, a thoughtful expression on her face. “Well hey, that’s lucky for you because it’s treatable,” she shrugged. “And you know what? You’re really in luck today because I have allergy meds on me, so pop one of those pills and you’ll be good to go,” she said, reaching into her bag to pull out the little packet of pills and holding it out to him.

That Knight...

Jae eyed his ally, and was pleasantly surprised to see it was a woman. Not that he had anything against her, it was just unusual to see a woman fight. It was definitely not common to see a woman do anything but serve men in his time. Times were different, he supposed. The uniqueness of this new battle-partner made him respect her slightly more. Not just out of his code of chivalry, but as a fighter. Though, that could change if she proved incompetent.

He swung his greatsword upwards, barely missing the large beast’s muzzle. It stood well over a head taller than him, but that made it all the more interesting. Still, he had to be aware of any other powers it might have. When he had a momentary break, he voiced his opinions to the other. 

“I’ve never fought with a lady before,” He twisted his body to the left, a swipe of the monster’s claws landing where he was seconds ago. “but if you insist fighting, I do suggest you aim your blows at it’s left side. I believe I injured it enough to where it won’t strike much; but I still advise caution.”

At first, this monster seemed like child’s play. Enraged beasts typically don’t fight well. Yet, Jae was quickly discovering this was not the case. This one moved with an agility that even he had trouble keeping up with. He could only wonder how the other was doing. If only he still had his same level of strength from before. He parried another swipe and rolled to the side. He swung at it’s exposed side, getting a decent hit in, but it still wasn’t enough to stop the flurry of aggression.

“If you can take it’s focus off me, I can summon a few more swords and send them through its body. That should weaken it enough for you to strike at the heart to finish it off.”

Ji Hyo’s mind was racing as she tried to process everything that was happening at once. The monster raging before her, clear and intent on killing and causing ruckus and mayhem. The boy beside her, a card she took it, based on the way he was battling at her side. There was the thought that perhaps he was a hero, but the way he spoke made her think this wasn’t the case. 

“I’m glad to be your first,” she grinned, sparing a quick glance in his direction before returning her attention to the monster, her grip on her scythe tightening. At his instructions, her gaze went to the source he spoke of and nodded. This was good, it showed the monster had weakness. It would be taken down by them and lives would be spared. 

As it attacked again, Ji Hyo dodged it and watched as the monster seemed to target the boy now, the fury growing and she watched at how easy he made it look to take down the beast and attack it, as though it were simply child’s play. “Distract it?” Ji Hyo was a little taken off guard by this request. Her intent was always to kill and to attack, she never thought she would be in a situation where she would have to do something like this but at this point, she knew it didn’t do her any harm.

With a nod, she moved behind the monster before swiping her scythe, feeling the glide of her blade as it ran down his back and hearing the monstrous screech as it now turned its attention to Ji Hyo. “You think you’re real tough, don’t you?” she yelled, being loud in hopes the monster would grow annoyed with her. “Do you think you can stop me? I doubt it!”

The monster swiped at her when she spoke, signalling that she was in fact getting on its nerves. The blows grew more quick and frequent however, clearly it wanted to get rid of her. Ji Hyo dodged and swiped back when she could but she was only human and despite all her training, this was growing tiring. 

“Any day now!” she called out. “I’m not sure how long I can keep this up for.”

SNOW !!!!!

All Ji Hyo wanted was to simply go home and rest. The day had been long and tiring and she could feel tiredness and soreness in her bones and she simply wanted to take a warm bath and curl up in bed.

Of course, as fate would have it though, a simple wish as this wasn’t going to happen so easily. All off a sudden, she felt something cold hit her cheek, causing her freeze and blink for a moment as she processed what on earth had just happened. 

“I’m sorry, that wasn’t supposed to hit you, that was meant for someone else!” a voice called out and she turned to the source to see a boy before her. It then registered that it was a snowball and she looked around, but she didn’t see anyone else around. 

“How was that meant for someone else when I’m the only one here?” she asked, and didn’t wait for a response as she quickly made a snowball and threw it back at him. “That was really cold! How dare you!” Of course, the boy could have not been lying and whoever it had been aimed at could have scurried off and hid before she saw them, but she was too tired to think clearly right now.

“I should teach you a thing or two about your aim!” she said, making more snowballs and throwing them rapid fire towards the boy. “How does it feel?!”

The sun was high in the sky and there wasn’t a single cloud in sight. To Ji Hyo, this meant that it would be a good day to go to the beach. The plans constantly were made and forgotten, but Ji Hyo made damn sure that this time, it would work out and Sunggyu had been the lucky one to join her on this expedition.

“Admit it Sunggyu, this was a great idea, wasn’t it?” she said, nudging the older boy. “Even though it’s hot as shit, we can go swimming and get can even get ice cream,” Ji Hyo said, her mind already working on what they would be doing that day. Truly, the possibilities were endless.

“Come on, lets go find a nice spot and set up,” Ji Hyo urged and she hurried towards the sandy beach and stopped at an area that seemed like a good spot and left all their resources within easy reach. “What do you think? Should we set up here?” she said, waiting for the boy’s confirmation before they set up their little area.

“Alright, what now? Should we build a sand castle? I mean...we don’t have the equipment for it, but that’ll make it more of a challenge, won’t it? It’ll be fun.”

“It’s 2016 and we’re experiencing a blackout,” Ji Hyo frowned as she walked around the room, placing candles wherever she could before blowing out the matchstick and turning to face Qiling. “We’re lucky I even had candles because...really, who even does anymore?”

She grabbed the blanket that was tossed on top of her sofa and took a seat next to Qiling, throwing the blanket over the both of them in an attempt to keep warm. 

“I never even realized how cold it was until the heating system turned off...this is ridiculous, it really is,” she said, sticking her feet under Qiling’s because more than anything, she hated cold feet.

“Lets hope the power comes back on soon...if not.....well, tonight will be fun.”

“I’ll be honest with you, I barely have time to cook....I honestly can say I don’t even know how to cook,” Ji Hyo chuckled, looking at the spread of ingredients before them. 

Ji Hyo was weary about accepting the idea, but she was always the type to always willingly try new things, especially if the other person involved wanted to try it out too. 

Being both an officer of the law and a hero left Ji Hyo with ordering take out and eating out or, if she was lucky, spending time with friends or family who would provide her with a meal. The thought of having to provide for herself was never one she had to concern herself with. Ji Hyo knew she was very lucky on that part, because not everyone else was so fortunate.

“So, what are we making today?”

Snow

“You’ll pay for that one!” Ji Hyo called out as the snowball hit the top of her head. Ji Hyo danced around, the cold seeping into her skull and she shook her head furiously in an attempt to try and warm herself up, but it only made it more cold. “Why is your aim so good?!” she questioned, but didn’t wonder too much about a response as she quickly worked on making another snowball.

The two had only wanted to rush home and escape the cold, but somewhere along the way, a sudden battle broke out and they were furiously whipping snowballs back and forth. 

Although yes, it was cold, it was also proving to provide a bit of warmth for the two of them too...although it also still made them really cold as well. They were both grown ass girls but they were running around in the snow as though they were little kids, drawing attention to themselves from anyone was in the area or simply passing by, but neither of them really cared.

“Take this!” she said, aiming the snowball towards her target and whipping it towards her, pleased when it hit the spot.
