Having some fun with an update. The top illustration is one I did from 1996, for “Starship Troopers”, the Paul Verhoeven film. It’s the Tactical “Tac” fighter that you see with the fleet. So below is a restyle, but trying to stay true to the original design, which was based a bit on the F117 Nighthawk. The F117 was considered futuristic looking in ‘96. Just a challenge to myself to rewind 20 years....
Here’s a flashback! I worked on ‘The Matrix, Revolutions” back in the day. I came across these concept renders in my files. Reminded me what a labor it was to do everything in markers and gouache. A little rough compared to today’s standards, but it was 2002.
I found some early concept drawings I did for the Tim Burton film “Alice”. These were early attempts, the final Mad Hatter’s table ended up being longer and much more unorganized. An excellent film to work on, I had a blast.
Start with a sketch, work out your value structure, then have some fun with color! GhostBustin’ in the old West.
Here is some production artwork for the interior of the Hospital for Zootopia, and some set-dressing vignettes. Early layout and geography for the modelling department.
This is a scary hospital.
Here are some fun vehicles!
Here’s some exploration and the ZTP Academy training ground.
Here are some Zootopia vehicles and props. Some trucks and trolley concepts, a police laptop, and some versions of the secret blue stuff gun!
Zootopia Concept art. Wanna Bop a bunny?
Zootopia Rain Forest District! Here are some vehicles, blimps and barges I did development design for. Some pencil sketches and some light color.
Here are some Zootopia odds and ends. The Bear medical chart, some amusement park rides. Some development art that ended up not being needed but was fun to do.
Sloth DMV from Zootopia. This is the visual development for the exterior scenes. Included is a storyboard panel that the design originates from. Doing the sign was my favorite part.
Here are some details from the Zootopia train station. The bottom is the final railing condition with a plant motif.
Zootopia vehicles. Buses, cars, a garbage truck. Here are some concepts for the background vehicles.
Zootopia Police Department. Here are some odds and ends from the interior design stage of the ZPD. We were experimenting with interlocking desks and bullpen geography.
