The eminent painter, NY artist David Reed visiting Joe Reza “PRIME” at his South Central studio. Reed was brought by Gajin Fujita, once a student at the U of Nevada’s Art College when Reed was an “artist in residence.” Prime is one of the legendary LA street artists featured in the LA Louver Gallery’s recent ROLLCALL exhibition curated by Fujita.
Reed’s work, now showing at the 356 Gallery in the DTLA arts district shares many elements of street writing and graffiti like hand-styles. An amazing studio visit created by Gajin with other ROLLCALL artists Big Sleeps and Defer.

Artist Patrick Martinez in his downtown Los Angeles studio. & Perfect timing, we were very fortunate to have been joined for our studio visit by the LA lettering legend Joe “PRIME” Reza. Both artists were recently featured in the break all records for attendance exhibition, ROLLCALL curated by Gajin Fujita at LA Louver Gallery in Venice. Patrick’s most recent 2017 exhibition “All Season Portfolio” at the Charlie James Gallery continues to receive tremendous critical acclaim.
“Since early 2015, Martinez has been documenting instances of violence in the U.S., much of it involving police brutality and death at the hands of officers, in Pee-Chee-style paintings. In that time, he has made an estimated 20 such paintings. Some are in the hands of private collectors. Others are at galleries like Charlie James in Los Angeles and Guerrero Gallery in San Francisco. A few are inside his work space at a studio on the border of Los Angeles and Vernon that he shares with other artists.” Liz Ohanesian - KCET
