If you ever find yourself at Sungei Wang Plaza in downtown Kuala Lumpur, and you suddenly have a hankering for surprisingly nice-tasting Curry Mee, then this is the place.

The cost is also pretty affordable for a mall eatery at RM7.50 (as of August 2019).

You get a pretty hearty portion too! I don’t know if the other items on their menu are this tasty, but the curry mee is definitely a nice one, and you will probably not be disappointed.

Oh yeah...this is probably the only blog that sometimes includes the picture of the dish after the eating has taken place haha!

Oh yea....I’m trying to reduce my carb intake!

World’s Best Onion Rings - D’Good Cafe

Tucked away behind some pillars and walls is this little delightful cafe that is unpretentious, yet has an air of quality to it.  Here I experienced the world’s absolute best onion rings in the world.  

Now I’m not an onion ring snob nor a legit onion-head, but the onion rings here were so good, I had to tell the staff to tell the chef that if world leaders could just taste his onion rings, there would be no more war.

I was there sometime in the afternoon in between meals so I didn’t have any of their other food, but if they are anything like their onion rings, like I said before, wars would be a thing of the past.

Even the dipping sauce defies the laws of gravity.

Emie is a unique Medanese noodle dish that is prepared with bean sprouts, minced shrimp, hard-boiled egg, bathed in a muddy, icky-looking gravy. Strangely enough, the best Emie my tastebuds have had the pleasure of experiencing is located in the Pluit suburb of Jakarta. 

I heard that when they started out, their restaurant was just this little hole-in-the-wall...but now, that hole-in-the-wall has turned into this multi-storey restaurant and family home combination.  

You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see this strange cow head mounted on the wall.

Like I said, strange.....but no worries, this doesn’t affect your ability to wolf down the food later.

It looks like hell, but it tastes like heaven...

If you ever find yourself in Tanjung Balai, North Sumatera, about 200 km southwest of Medan, make sure you make it your lunch or dinner destination. If you are into seafood, your taste buds will thank you.

I warn you though, getting to the restaurant by car is a small adventure, as we had to navigate the wrong way against oncoming traffic consisting of folks on rickshaws, and motorcycles, with disdain on their faces, as they shake their heads in disapproval of our insolence. We actually had to get someone from the restaurant to come out and guide us into the entrance, which was so narrow that our car side mirrors have the scars to prove it.

Once we got through, it looked as if we had entered into a secret lair of some seafood kingpin.  

We were shepherded into an air-conditioned room, where we were then treated to the following seafood goodies:

Steamed alien-sized prawns

No kiddin’!

Steamed great-white pomfret fish Tom Yam style.  

Chilli crab.

I know 200 km on a small non-highway road is a little too much to bear just to get some good seafood, but if you happen to be here anyway, for whatever reason, you can make your seafood-loving mouth happy by coming here.

So I found myself in this restaurant at a lifestyle mall called Hermes Place Polonia in Medan, Indonesia, and so naturally I stumbled into this Chinese restaurant called Golden Dragon.

For an experience your tongue won’t soon forget, order these dishes:

From the Dim Sum menu, order these.

Koay Teow Polos (Plain Rice Noodle -- but trust me, taste-wise, this is far from plain!)

Cheong Fun Sauce Hong Kong (Rolled rice noodles in Hong Kong sauce -- a sinful confluence of sweet sauce, peanut sauce, and sesame seeds and oil) I’m salivating as I am typing this!

Cintoi (Sesame seed ball).  This is a sweet-ish dish, more of a dessert type thing, and it is absolutely sinful in deliciousness.  And they are huge!

Of course, the other Dim Sum dishes are delish as well, but above are can’t miss dishes!

Now from the regular lunch or dinner menu...you MUST order...

Fried tofu (I don’t know what the dish is called, but just show the waiter this picture and you’ll be understood!)  

Udang mentega & goreng pisang (Butter shrimp and banana fritters) I know, I know, strange combination... but it works!  NOTE: There is another dish that is similar known as Ayam Mentega (Butter chicken)  It is similar in taste but is served without the banana fritters...also a great reason to put on unwanted pounds.

Murtabak and Roti Canai Fix at the North-South Highway, Malaysia.

If you ever find yourself travelling up to Penang from Kuala Lumpur and you’re on the North-South Highway in the lovely yet politically quirky country of Malaysia, if you have a hankering for awesome “Roti Canai” and “Murtabak”, then the best place for that is located here:

Known as the Agro Mall, it is this large commercial facility for the sale of fresh produce.

There is also a large hypermarket here, should you feel the need to binge-shop. So after stretching your weary legs from sitting for too long in the car, make your way to the food court, specifically to the Nasi Kandar Padang Kota.  

The not-so-good-news is, murtabak and roti canai guy is only there from 11 am till about 2pm only, so you don’t really have a large window of eating opportunity. The good news is, if you are there at lunchtime, you will be treated to the best Murtabak and Roti Canai this side of the North-South Highway.  So buckle up, and let the munching begin!

If you ever find yourself in Cameron Highlands, and you want to eat something other than scones, toast, steamboat and other local Malaysian food, this Arabian food place may just do the trick. Order the roast lamb and rice dish...the taste is authentic at a price that is not baaa-aaaa-aaad.

Order the Sate Ayam (Chicken) Campur Bumbu Blora and Sate Kambing (Lamb).  You will be munching in bliss.

Also order the Tahu Telur.  It is the best I have ever tasted... and I am an authority on this because I have tasted two Tahu Telur dishes in my life!

The Es Kelapa Batok Jeruk (Chilled young coconut with siam orange) is also refreshing to no end.

Surprisingly tasty and rather authentic, especially considering the fact that this is a chain of restaurants.

Order the Sarawak Mee and Pan Mee (in any incarnation).  For the price....and ambience (which admittedly is a little too green), with WIFI, this can't be beat.

The menu is varied, with lots of Continental fare, but what stands out is the Briyani (Lamb or Beef) which brought back memories of my college days, when I used to wolf down delicious Briyani prepared by my Bengali friends.

Also order the Nachos.  Kinda ugly, but terrifyingly tasty.
