Craig Zadan, Prolific Stage, TV, and Film Producer, Dies at 69
There are few people whose work has had as big a role in shaping who I am as a Craig Zadan. His book SONDHEIM AND CO was the first and remains the best consideration of Steveās work, and of course with his producing partner Neil Meron he revived the screen musical on both tv and film. What an unbelievable loss.
Found this for $25 at the Schaumburg @halfpricebooks last week!

One more show!
Raul Esparza performsĀ āThe Flag Songā (cut from Assassins) with new orchestrations by Charlie Rosen, at the Dramatists Guild Fundās gala. I believe this is the first public performance of this song.
(Not familiar with āThe Flag Song?ā I wrote about it in The Sondheim Review.)
LEAD: The sun came out on Monday morning, Nov. 6, 1989, and so did the reporters and television news crews, for the first day of rehearsal of ''Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge.'' The $7 million musical continuation of ''Annie,'' which was one of the most successful shows in Broadway history, had been announced with much hoopla in
Broadway fact of the day: Amid the raging success of Annie, the creators planned and began work on a sequel calledāI shit you notāAnnie 2: Miss Hanniganās Revenge. This New York Times article tells the saga of this abortive attempt, and it is fascinating and horrifying and laughable in equal measure. Read it and be astonished.
Okay but he score to Miss Hanniganās Revenge is pretty great. (If youāve only heard the version recorded officially on the 30th Anniversary Album, you havenāt really heard Annie 2, because that one had to omit all the songs that were recycled for Annie Warbucks. And it didnāt have Dorothy London.)
The SM just sent this out in the rehearsal report, and I am laughing harder than I have all week.
Drake for the announced but quickly forgotten and probably never happening NBC production of The Music Man* *As long as they use the complete dance music
i work in theater and am feeling really judged lately because i will be voting for Donald Trump in the election. i thought our community was supposed to be diverse and respect different opinions and points of view, but that is clearly not the case here. and to be clear i'm not shouting vote trump or anything, but when someone asks me i'm honest about who i voting for. how can i make it through this election with all the taboo and judgment?
By choosing the candidate who isnāt actively discriminating against the people you probably work with.Ā

Not having music for the next gig yet means working ahead to the one after that, which in this case means Christmas in August.
Finally attacking the pile of plays I bought at the beginning of the summer.
