Afro Blue - Robert Glasper Experiment (feat. Erykah Badu)

I'm a sucker for classic jazz songs done vocally. For instance: I used to like Jon Hendricks who with lovable "friends" would sing modern-day (60s) standards including the solo parts (cause who wouldn't want to hear a Coltrane solo sung). Obviously this is a somewhat cheesy musical sub-genre (they don't call it vocalese for nothing folks) and the lyrics chosen rarely live up to the music. Here, Glasper with his not so experimental experiment perform the classic Coltrane tune Afro Blue which was actually written by Mr. Mongo Santamaria.

And also speaking of, is the name Mongo the cuban equivalent of Bob or what?

Ok, I don't love everything he does, like when he slips into his Kanye voice for instance. The album doesn't feel that consistent; he doesn't really seem to have a completely defined style yet. BUT... he is obviously creative and bursting with ideas and it's worth listening to what he puts out.
