  Many people have a YouTube account and upload videos to the site. Many people also do not know the rules and regulations on what kinds of videos you can put up legally. In Ed Carrasco's article "9 Things You Should Know About Copyright And Fair Use On YouTube" he gives people tips on how they can be better YouTube users. 

  Copyright is a huge issue when it comes to posting videos on the internet. Many people do not realize that when they post certain clips of YouTube it is actually illegal because it has been registered with the copyright office making it someones actual property subject to their terms of use. Carrasco gives the advice, "Whatever you do, don’t use creative works on your YouTube video without asking for permission. Infringement could possibly put you in a world of trouble even if you cited the work in your video or in the credits. You could be hit with a cease and desist order or worse (think lawsuit) if the copyrighted material isn’t taken down"(Carrasco). He stresses the importance of knowing what kind of work you are posting and who owns it. He gives a lot of insight on knowing the difference between work that you can use for free and work that you can't. 

 Ed gives various tips to help the average YouTube user stay out of trouble. He also gives advice on how to copyright your own videos. This article gives very useful tips that every YouTube user should know. I would read this article before posting your next video on the site.

   Social media is no longer just a website that allows you to connect with your friends. It has now changed the way people express their political opinions. According to the Philadelphia Inquier, "And as of 10:15 p.m., Election Day 2012 became the most-tweeted event in U.S. political history, with 20 million tweets"(Timpane). People feel strongly enough about their political views to post it on social media sites. This article talked all about how Facebook has provided more people with information about how and where to vote. This then has made the number of Americas who vote go up. It also talked about how much people were posting about the election on social media sites.

  I find it interesting that people are willing to put these thoughts on Facebook and twitter. People usually like to stay clear of these topics in fear of offending someone. Maybe like cyber bullying people feel more comfortable typing these things rather than actually saying them to people. I know that on election night my Facebook feed blew up with status both praising and bashing candidates. I don't know if people would feel comfortable saying these things in public but for some reason they feel comfortable typing it. Is there really a difference?

    Finding anything online has become simple. You just go to your search engine of choice and type in what you’re looking for, and thousands of results come up. I personally use Google. It is not that I do not like Bing, it is because I have always used Google and it has never failed me yet. It is a great search engine and I see no need to switch. I find that Google and Bing do almost the same thing. In the New York Times article I read they tell all of the features that both Google and Bing have. They both share almost the same functions as the other one. 

  I really think Bing copies Google. They were founded a decade later and do the same thing as Google. I do not know why people would pick Bing over Google. I am a fan of competition but if the competitor does the same thing as its opponent is there really any point? Bing needs implement other services that Google does not provide. I feel like they spend a lot of time trying to convince people that their sight is better. Bing, leave that up to the public. You should be more focused on a new and innovative search engine, and not how well it is received.  

  The article mainly talks about what kinds of tools search engines offer. They provide you with a wealth of information. You can use it for travel, dining, school, and just about anything else you can type. People have their individual preference of search engine, but I find that Google is the best.

 A simple phrase that Romney said in the last presidential debate has gone viral. He most likely thought nothing of the simple phrase "binders full of women" when he said it, but the American public has brought it to the internet. 

   A recent LA Times article states, "'A liberal "super PAC," American Bridge, announced that it had purchased the domain name BindersFullOfWomen.com to "educate voters on Romney's REAL record on issues important to women'"(Semuels). These democrats thought quickly and bought the domain name before a republican thought to do so. They are now going to make a website that will be pro Obama. Getting this unique domain name will bring a lot of traffic to the site because of the phrase has recently gone viral. 

  This phrase has also made it to website like Twitter and Facebook. Now when someone searches this phrase they are likely to quickly find BindersFullOfWomen.com pretty quickly. The was a great strategic move of American Bridge because now they will be able to preach their political views to a much wider audience.

   In my opinion Facebook stock should not be worth anything at its current state. Yes, they may have a website that has 1 billion users but no one on the site buys anything. Personally I never even noticed the ads on the side of the screen, and many other people on the site have told me the same thing. Facebook has a huge audience and provides a great service, but when push comes to shove they really have no effective way of making money.

  In the article they say "While users on Facebook do not come looking for services and goods, those on Google (Search) are almost always searching for them".(Priyanka) People go to Google to find things that they need or want. People go to Facebook for entertainment, not to buy anything. The ads the are on Facebook are pointless because no one ever looks at them. Facebook needs to change the way they make a profit. To me Facebook just seems like a large ad company. Zuckerberg needs to make a decision. Does he want to continue his plan with always keeping Facebook free, while not being that profitable? Or does he want to risk losing users and start charging people to be on the site? This seems like the only solution to me, seeing as though the stock has only gone down since their IPO back in May.

      Viral videos have become a new way to express your opinion. A group of kids at a Kansas school made a video about how they do not get enough energy from their school lunches. The article states, "the song pokes fun at new school lunch regulations, which sprouted from First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign against childhood obesity" (McDermott). These kids do not like how their school lunches have changed since last year because, "The new regulations are aimed at improving the quality of school lunches, by cutting calories, making milk or fruit smoothies mandatory, and replacing junk food with fruits and vegetables"(Mcdermott). All kids like junk food. When you replace the pop-tarts and doritos with broccoli and apples kids are not going to be happy. Instead of just dealing with the lunches and keeping their mouths shut they decided to voice their opinion in video form. The video shows kids falling down while playing sports and little kids crawling home. This is an exaggeration to show that they need more food to get through the day, because Micelle's plan has left them hungry. 

     I find it interesting that people now choose to make videos and upload them to YouTube in order to state their opinions. YouTube is a great place to get a lot of attention for various issues. Before this individuals could not reach a large audience without professional help. It is great that people can use their freedom of speech in viral video form. Even if these kids don't get the food they wanted at least they got their opinion out there.

Post #4 extra credit

     We think social media is all fun and games but sometimes it is not. I'm sure many people have heard of the latest YouTube gone viral, "Gangnam Style". A group of lifeguards at a california public pool made a soof video of "Gangnam Style" that also went viral. At first i'm sure these kids were happy with how popular their video became until they got fired for it. Many people are now saying that they should not have been fired. One woman even went so far to say "“I have lived in El Monte my whole life, and for the first time ever, I’m ashamed of my city". She is upset that her town fired these local workers. 

    When we put things on the web we forget that the whole world can see it not just our family and friends. People need to be more cautious about what they put on the internet. These lifeguards did not think they were doing anything wrong, but sadly in this case they were wrong. Making a viral video may seem like a good idea, but think twice about the possible outcome before actually posting your video for all to see.

      This article was very funny. There is a tumbler called "the rich kids of instagram" and someone made a spoof site called "the rich cats of instagram". It is making fun of how obnoxious these kids. On the original tumbler kids show off there parents money in lavish ways that makes them come off as immature idiots. Someone decided that they would make a tumbler that would make fun of these kids, that instead would feature cats. 

       Now many people post in the "rich cats of instagram". It features cats doing extravagant things with funny hash tags underneath. Like a viral video this tumbler has taken off and become very popular. I think that it became well know because like a You Tube's featuring animals, people like to think of their pets as humans. The pictures on the website show cats with bottles, cigars, and bags that make them appear more human like.

In class we have been talking a lot about viral videos and why they are successful. When we each had to pick a viral video to show to the class someone showed "Gangnam Style". I had never seen this video before. I didn't know what it was. I had never even heard of it before. It was a strange video because it didn't seem like something that would come out of Korea. The video was just kind of confusing and it didn't really make sense to me. 

   The article I read explained what this video was about. The main character keeps mentioning Gangnam which the article describes as "a wealthy neighborhood in the South Korean city of Soeul where young people go to party"(Goyette). They are trying to show that this area of Korea is fun and has a lot of night life. It seems to me that this area has been heavily influenced by American culture.They also talk about the language used in the video, which is a mix of Korean and English. 

   The video has119,000,000 views and it has only been on You Tube since July. Clearly this video has what it takes to go viral. I think it was most likely so popular because it was just really confusing and you didn't really know what you were watching.

       This article relates to our IMS 201 class because it is all about social media and how those types of companies make a profit. In class we have been required to make Tumblers, Twitters, and Pinterests. While signing up for all of these sites I noticed that I was not required to pay any money. I learned from this article that Twitter is able to get money from advertisements. They have a large audience on their site, and there for it attracts a lot of businesses who are looking to sell things. I was aware of what made users attracted to the site but did not understand why businesses would also be attracted to it. Now I understand that social media sites are not just a way of connecting people, it is also a way to for businesses to connect with targeted audiences.
