Rest In Peace to the legendary Betty White. Thank you for being a friend to us all. 😥
Rest in Peace Betty White.
We have lost a legend today.
On April 14th, 1912, the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg at 11:40 pm, popping open many rivets and allowing water to gush into the ship. 2 hours and 40 minutes later, she sunk at 2:20 am, taking 1500 people with her. 705 people were able to escape the sinking ship, and were picked up by the RMS Carpathia a few hours after the Titanic sank.
"Well, I believe you may get your headlines, Mr. Ismay."
“I still think about the ‘might have beens’ about the Titanic, that’s what stirs me more then anything else. Things that happened that wouldn’t have happened if only one thing had gone better for her. If only, so many if onlys. If only she had enough lifeboats. If only the watertight compartments had been higher. If only she had paid attention to the ice that night. If only the Californian did come. The ‘if only’ kept coming up again and again and that makes the ship more then the experience of studying a disaster. It becomes a haunting experience to me, it’s the haunting experience of ‘if only’.”
— Walter Lord (via everythingrmstitanic)
If one thing would have went right, she wouldn't have sunk or at least not as many people would have died.
I am one who believes this was allowed by Divine Providence. In hindsight, with all of the societal changes the sinking caused, if I could go back in time to prevent the sinking, would I?
TITANIC (1997) dir. James Cameron
Promise me you’ll survive. That you won’t give up, no matter what happens. No matter how hopeless.
TITANIC (1997) dir. James Cameron
I went to see this movie 17 times in the theater. It was in theaters for almost a year from what I can remember. It may seem odd for a very depressed young girl at the time to love this tragic subject so much, but it gave me a passion for the ship, the people and all the history behind it. I was a senior in high school and have since then accumulated quite the library of material.
Titanic characters: Thomas Andrews, the ship builder of the RMS Titanic ➝ “I’m sorry that I didn’t build you a stronger ship, young Rose.”
"But this ship can't sink!"
"She's made of iron Sir, I assure you she can. And she will. 'Tis a mathematical certainty."
“Your ship is a wonder, Mr. Andrews, truly.”
you ever just think about how you have no emotions while yearning with your whole body
@sigynpenniman DaTA Has No EmoTIoNs! (while yearning with his whole body is something I’m going to lie awake thinking about)
anyway I often think about how powerful it would’ve been instead of shoe-horning in an “emotion chip” the show had continued down this line of thinking, where people start to point out that the phrases Data uses to describe himself in relation to things, people, events, etc. .. sure does sound like emotions.
And Data, who’s been raised to believe he hasn’t got emotions needs to reconfigure his whole sense of self. That’s what “sad” is? That’s joy???
we talked about this before, but the idea that Data’s been mourning Tasha since s1, but hasn’t been allowed to, because Data Has No Emotions is a fact that everyone including himself has internalised, that must be difficult as hell
And then maybe the emotion chip does get introduced and Data is on this journey already, but he can bypass all of that learning and just instinctively know he feels and feels “correctly” here’s a chip to fix all of that turmoil he’s been feeling,,,
but he decides not to. At first because of what happens with Geordi, but then because he begins to realise that he’s not in need of fixing, of being made better, or more human, or all of the sentences he (and others) have used in the past to indicate that he’s not a whole person yet.
Data Has Emotions. One day he’ll even believe that himself.
