JONATHAN ROUMIE and GEORGE H. XANTHIS as JESUS and JOHN in THE CHOSEN: LAST SUPPER.
I know perfectly well that I'll be sobbing my heart out this series.
People are talking about 'Queer Coding' regarding this post. 🙄
Now. Before anyone tries throwing 'homophobe' at me. Let me say that I honestly don't care if, amongst yourselves, you decide that The Chosen is Same Sex relationships left right and centre. That's your business.
But can we firstly bear in mind that the term 'Queer' as in 'Queer Theory, actually has nothing to do with Same Sex Love.
In fact, quite the opposite.
It seeks to be rid of the terms 'man' and 'woman'. It rejects the sex binary outright. It wants everyone to be Non Binary.
(Judith Butler the 'Godmother of Queer Theory' used to be a lesbian. Now she insists that she's non binary.)
I merely bring this up to point out the incongruity of it all.
More importantly. I look at The Chosen in the same terms of Lord of the Rings.
Romance is not the be all and end all of Love, not even close.
Yes. There are romantic relationships here. Simon Peter and Eden, Thomas and Ramah, Zeb and Mary Salome etc.
But it's a drop in the ocean. God's Love for The World is front and centre. Jesus encourages Love between People, compassion, mercy, the power of friendship.
To The Gang Jesus is their Rabbi, and the bond between Rabbi and students went deep. The students didn't just learn from their Rabbi, they sought to become just like him.
Jesus is more than just a regular Rabbi and The Gang know this.
They're also slowly realising exactly what Jesus has been saying is going to happen to him, and they're scared!
John's been watching what Jesus is up to and my guess is that it's scared him even more.
Of course he wants to make sure that Jesus knows that he loves him and needs the reassurance of Jesus' Love in turn.
Getting to the "treating the Bible and Judeo-Christian Mythology like a regular book with lore" phase of the queer kid raised Catholic extravaganza
I'm sorry your parents forced you to go to church.
Episode 1 of the Sailor Moon DiC Abridged series
You should go and watch this good old Christian comedy
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k7rkwEBVLu8&t=2s
Ok it's very funny to laugh at Tuxedo Mask for showing up and doing nothing, but his job was never to actually fight the monsters.
His job was just to show up and believe in Sailor Moon so overwhelmingly resolutely that she remembers she's a fucking demigod long enough for HER to fight the monsters.
Because she's the only one strong enough to do it in the first place, and in this regard Tuxedo Mask is the first example of being "Kenough" in this essay I will
Okay Tuxedo Mask didn’t do nothing his job was to give the girls a tiny breather so they recuperate and kick the mega monsters butts.
So it’s been I while since I used this account
(Ooc question here: lots of rp blogs recently but how many of you know how to play Battletech?)

Kwami change the nature of their carriers. I wonder how to change the Marinette with Plagg?
“[insert aspect of Christian holiday] has PAGAN ROOTS 😱”
yeah and St. Paul had killing-Christians-roots lol. we baptized him, we baptized your pagan traditions, we’ll baptize you too
judas was probably like "jesus has pulled off so many wacky things, he'll get out of this one lickity split, and i get three shiny coins out of it, too"
I truly think Emilie dying left Adrien better off
However
I am not chill with fridged women having no agency or active presence in the story and just being used for man pain
I want Emilie to be back in some form
I want her to be her own character rather than just someone else’s tragic backstory
And I want her to be horrible
My fellow Catholics, I am BEGGING you to remember that someone being anti-liberal/traditional does not automatically exclude them from being seriously misguided. Much less should you excuse their errors and write them off. I don't know how common this is in other parts of the world but it is massive here in the US, and I can't help but wonder if it's American political culture rubbing off onto us. Whether it is or not, it has to stop. The Catholic faith is not divided up into two dueling parties like the US government, and we should not resort to "the ends justify the means" political tactics by supporting people who genuinely lead others astray just because they do it in a way that doesn't offend us as badly.
(Yes, this includes things like publically mocking the Pope and calling his authority into question. Read canon law.)
The amount of Catholics online who will kick in with "acceptable" extremists and defend them til they're blue in the face is astounding. And they almost always wind up adopting, at least in part, the faulty beliefs and behaviors of the ones they defend, or at the very least minimize their severity to the point of becoming indifferent. Because that's how compromising with sin always works.
As a progressive catholic who went to a right wing catholic high school I can safely say it’s something that’s always existed, ie Pope Benedict. However the rapid polarization around during 2016 and after really exasperated the political divides within the American Catholic Church. And that has led a lot of right wing Catholics in my experience to become further radicalized in right wing spaces and just look at figures like Nick Fuentes. But to these people Catholicism stoped being a faith and started being an aesthetic.
And the reason I didn’t go to church for a few years was because my local priest during 2016 was all but explicitly saying that we should vote for Trump. Thankfully it’s better we have a more normal priest doing mass and I’ve been trying to go when I can. But the rest of my family really hasn’t joined me due to that awful priest still technically being there.
