“Thank you Miss.  It might be although I would be surprised if Miss Maria had turned it into a spa.  She was always far more interested in hair than anything else.”  She fell silent, looking down for a moment as she silently berated herself for rambling too much.  “My apologies for taking too much of your time Miss but is it the first of second street?” she asked quickly as she looked in the direction the domme had indicated.

Joan gave a hint of a shrug, not too familiar with this business that the submissive was seeking.  “Well, I’m sure you can find out and clear it up when you get there.  I wish I could be of more help,” she added.  Still sensing a bit of tension from the young woman, Joan offered a small smile.  “I believe it is the second street.  Would you like an escort?  I’m headed in that direction anyways.”

Puck looked at the Dominant before dropping his chin respectfully. “Thank you, Miss. I’m searching for a small shop that’s supposed to sell Japanese ingredients. I’m looking for Mirin, specifically. I was hoping to get some for my mother.” He glanced at her again before wetting his lips and venturing, “With all due respect, are you the Commander?” Puck had been paying attention to the news, and this woman had been featured before. He was nearly certain he knew her face.

“There is a grocers stall not too far from here.  An elderly couple run an inconspicuous hole-in-the-wall with various ingredients and foods from Asia.  It can be hard to miss if you don’t know where to look,” she advised, offering up one of her favorite places to shop.  Her lips quirked up in a small smile at his inquiry.  “Why do you ask?”

“I think you like it.” Mila shrugged her shoulders, a warm smile on her face as she approached the other woman. “Good, you deserve a break. Actually, you deserve a lot of breaks… or a very long one away from the city.”

“Do you?  Your antics amuse me to some degree, Mila, though sometimes it causes a little bit of concern,” she commented with a teasing lilt.  “Perhaps one day I can take a small vacation but since I’ve only just stepped into this role, I’m afraid I need to be around for Verona.”  She sighed lightly and placed her hands onto her lap.  “What about yourself, though, Mila, dear?  How are you faring in these times?”

“I had just started to think that his was looking familiar.”  Livy stopped.  Her hand lifted to rub the back of her neck.  “I am searching for a temporary Halloween store which has been recommended.  It would appear my directions are incorrect though.  Are you aware of where it is?”

This person must be new to town given that comment, but clearly must have passed by this place a few times.  “A temporary Halloween store that someone recommended?” Joan repeatedly skeptically.  “I don’t really know about that, but there is a costume shop down the street.  Perhaps that’s what you’re looking for?”

“Yes Miss,” she replied promptly.  “It was called Curl up and then it changed it’s name to just Tonelli’s.  It used to be run by Maria Tonelli but I think she has most likely retired by now.”

“Hm,” Joan pondered briefly, a single finger tapping lightly against her jaw.  “There is a Tonelli’s down a few blocks from here, though I cannot recall if they were a hairdresser shop or a spa.  Perhaps that’s the place you’re looking for.”

At the comment, Lucca froze and turned to look in the direction of the familiar voice. “Ah, no… not lost… just…” He hadn’t been paying attention, and kept letting his mind wander. “Honestly, maybe I’m just exhausted and I should probably get some rest. Speaking of which… how are you faring?”

Joan gave a soft chuckle and nodded solemnly in agreement.  “Perhaps you need a longer break if you are all turned around like this, officer,” she advised with a small smile.  Sucking in a breath and exhaling slowly, Joan shook her head slightly.  “Hanging in there, just as the rest of us are.  Unfortunately, work doesn’t wait around until break time is over.”

Puck was absolutely turned around. He had wanted to find a store that supposedly carried Mirin for his mother. He felt like he hadn’t seen it anyway, and if he bought it for her, he might be able to coax her into making Kabayaki. But the place he was looking for seemed to be literally nowhere. His phone kept saying that he had arrive, and yet…? 

As someone spoke up, Puck gave a sheepish expression. “Well, Miss… I’m beginning to think that the place I’m looking for… might not exist anymore.”

Joan narrowed her eyes at the man, not maliciously, as she examined his demeanor and the way he responded to her.  “No?  Perhaps I can try to help out.  I know my way around these parts fairly well,” she offered.

“Is that how we’ve resorted to getting attention now, Mila?” Joan chuckled with a head shake.  “It has indeed.  Quite honestly, you’re catching me in a rare moment of... a break,” she admitted.  With the recent riots and havoc resulting from Mister Montague’s conviction, Joan’s job grew more difficult everyday.

Daria jumped at the voice as it pulled her from her wandering.  “I’m sorry to disturb you Miss.  I really didn’t mean to.  I am looking for a hairdresser shop that used to be around this area but they moved and the address I had seems to be wrong.”

Joan raised a brow, noticing how easily startled the submissive was.  “A hairdresser shop?  Do you recall the name?  Perhaps I could be of some assistance in this search of yours.”

“I hate to be the one to point this out but, you’ve passed by at least two or three times.  Are you a little lost?”

“That makes sense.” He didn’t mind looking around, or looking it up as soon as he felt like he was a little more settled. That wasn’t really a priority at the moment, but he felt pretty confident about settling in. “Fiction - mysteries, mostly. I liked the idea of setting a story in a city with a lot of history and Verona seemed to tick all the boxes I had. So far it seems like the type of place to inspire the muse, so I guess I’ll see about that when I’ve finished unpacking.”

“Verona is certainly an... intriguing place with particular quirks.  Perhaps you’ll find a muse or two here,” she chuckled with a nod.  “Best of luck with all of that.  I’m not much of a reader, but you’ve got me interested in your potential work, especially if it’ll be inspired by our little city-state here.”

     “Excuse me, miss, I believe this is yours.” Axel tapped the shoulder of the domme he’d seen around the indoor rock climbing arena and held out the towel she’d dropped. “I’ve been meaning to introduce myself, I’m Axel Giordano. I’ve seen you around here a lot. You’re a proficient climber. Have you done this for a long time?” 

“Hm?” Joan replied, turning to the voice that corresponded to the tap she felt on her shoulder.  She had just hopped down from her climb.  Clapping her hands free of the chalk, she tilted her head to look at the towel offered to her.  “Oh.  Thanks.  Meant to get that after I dropped it from up there.”  Taking the towel in her hand, she grinned and looked over the man.  “Axel Giordano.  Lovely to meet you.  And, yes.  Climbing is one of my favorite hobbies, and I quite enjoy coming to this place in particular.  Yourself?  You come here often?”

Joan took a moment to consider the question, thinking back to any folklore that she could recall.  “Journey to the West is a very famous Chinese novel.  I’m sure that has been translated many times in several languages.  And there’s a Vietnamese mythology regarding the Four Immortals.  I think both might be good starting points for reading.”

“Right.  I recall you mentioning her.”  At this point, Joan was quite well aware of who Ms. Valeria Montague was.  Given the case against one Osborne Montague, of course Joan knew those who were close to the man.  “I hope you find whatever it is you’re looking for here in Verona,” she stated after checking her watch.  Finding it time to head back to the Station, Joan politely dismissed herself.  “It’s been interesting chatting with you again.  Have a good rest of your evening.”

     Charlie nodded at the domme and smiled gently. “Thank you. I’m sure I will.” In the short time she’d been here, she had formed friendships that she could never forget about, so in short, she did find her peace here. “You too, ma’am.” She said as they were saying their goodbyes. When the other woman left, Charlie went back to the garage to finish up her work.

“Oh that’s great! Are there any that you would recommend especially?” Joan seemed very knowledgeable and sure of herself, which seemed to bode well for anything she recommended. Better to have an idea of where to go than just to wander around on his own too. “It’s been a lot to take in but not unbearable. We traveled so much when I was younger that I feel like I can adapt pretty quickly. For work, I’m a writer so I do get lucky a lot of times. I can write from anywhere but I like to live in the place where a book is set to help with authenticity.”

“Nothing specific really comes to mind in terms of basketball courts.  Most, if not all, recreational centers will have one.  It’s something you can easily look up,” she explained simply.  “A writer?  What sorts of things do you write?  Verona, well, it’s quite fascinating here.  I’m sure you’ll find some exciting inspiration here to fuel your creative talents.”

My best friend is Valeria Montague. She invited me to come live with her. LA is nice, but I figured that a change is needed.” That and she wanted to forget about Kevin, which thankfully she’d been able to do.
