No oneâs ever been able to answer this so Iâm gonna ask it again: Why do cishet aces want to be LGBT so bad? Why do you want to have that label on you? Because honestly, it fucking sucks. It might seem cool to be part of the âexclusive gay kids clubâ online, but outside of tumblr, LGBT people are stereotyped at best, and stalked and killed at worst. Sure, we have pride parades and gay bars, but we live in fear of being shot and killed just for being there. There are certain countries I canât even enter for fear of being executed because of my orientation. I just donât understand why you would want to be in a community that inherently puts you in danger. Cishet aces and aros, you have a free pass from this kind of abuse. Why do you want to go through it?

itâs because the danger is there whether theyâre in the community or not, as cisheteropatriarchy demonstrably and verifiably rejects asexuality as being part of straightness and discriminates against them accordingly!
so while whether theyâre viewed as LGBT by the majority of the LGBT community itself isnât relevant to how much violence they face, theyâre still put in the exact same basket as the LGBT community in the eyes of cisheteropatriarchy!
our mutual oppressor views both groups as being outsiders from straightness.
which means that the level of social violence against them will remain the same whether the LGBT community accepts them or not, but that being accepted into the LGBT community provides them with safe spaces (both digital and physical) resources (such as suicide help lines designed specifically for those with sexualities rejected by cisheteropatriarchy) and an accepting community environment that makes them feel less broken and suicidal!
being viewed as nonstraight by cihseteropatriarchy while being viewed as straight by bigots in the LGBT community means they get *all* the discrimination with *none* of the protection!

Q SLUR TW First of all, cishet aces are only considered LGBT because you guys tell everyone youâre LGBT. If they were to stop trying to piggyback on the movement as much as they do, they would face the same amount of discrimination as, say, someone who is celibate for religious reasons. They could so easily say âoh, I donât experience sexual attractionâ or even âI donât want to have sex until I get to know you betterâ or WHATEVER flavor of ace they are, and odds are no one would bat an eye. But because they insist on calling themselves âgayâ and âqueerâ, theyâre being lumped with an oppressed group. ACES added the A to the acronym, ACES put themselves in pride events, and ACES have been trying to force themselves in LGBT-friendly spaces for years now. And NONE of your arguments directly address the original point of the post, which is: Why do cishet aces want to be oppressed? Cishet aces can easily opt out of that oppression. But instead they insist on being included. Because, as much as they hate to admit it, they are not systemically oppressed. Itâs not even that weâre saying all aces/aro people arent lgbt. We know there are lgbtpn aces (or lgbtpn aros), but the lgbt+ community was built as a safe space for people that face homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, etc. we [lgbt+ ppl] face that kind of discrimination which also leads to years of oppression and calling us slurs that later on we either reclaimed or get anxiety from because of past experiences. The type of âdiscriminationâ aces face is toxic masculinity and misogyny; thereâs no actual oppression aces face that revolve around them being ace rather than the societies they may live around. We want a community where we can all feel safe from our oppressors, and Iâm sorry to say that cishet asexuals have no place in it. And a short note on your last little tidbit: the reason why âaphobesâ are different than TERFs is because we recognize that transgender people are valid in their identities and donât reduce them to their genitals. We also acknowledge that transgender individuals face systemic oppression much like what gay people, lesbians, and bisexuals face. And the majority of us are trans and experience some form of same-gender attraction so if you can stop comparing us to TERFs and biphobes that would be fantastic.
