Big day for the big dog! He handled his first injection well. We gave him an injection of Benadryl before the immiticide was given. They had to shave the area on his spine that it is injected to, so he has a cute little bald spot. He has some tramadol and prednisone to help him out for the next few days while he deals with the pain of the actual immiticide, and they seem to do their job well, because he is really sleepy. I think the only downside right now is the pred will make him go to the bathroom more, so we'll have to be on our toes (he had an accident in his kennel this morning, so I guess that shows you just how bad he had to go!) He was temped every half hour for a few hours, and they did a good job to make sure he was comfortable. Our new part time doctor, Dr. Bell, said she took his blanket away because he seemed like he was hot, and couldn't get comfy.
All in all though, I'm very pleased with how today went. I was very nervous for my Dodo, but he has been handling it like a champ. I'm incredibly thankful for everyone at Altitude who has been working with him and us to make sure this treatment goes as smoothly as possible. As you can see, he is resting peacefully on the couch. We will be kenneling him come bedtime, and he will daycare again tomorrow!
