Here is the general settings page, emergency and emergency contact setup page. The emergency set up page uses Bluetooth in a similar manor to the NHS app, allowing one to contact their friends without WiFI/mobile data.

Overall, the app turned out really well. I felt like we successfully fulfilled the brief we had been given, and demonstrated a good understanding of hierarchy of information.

Here are the friends and group sections of our app. The app allows you to add friends by cicking the add friends icon, as well as the speech bubble symbol taking the user straight to a group chat.

We attended an XD workshop with Ben. I had never used the software before so this workshop was extremely useful. We familiarised ourselves witht the software by designing a website.

As a group we brainstormed ideas for the layout and features on our app. We sketched a wireframe, which we then planned on following when actually developing the app in InDesign.

As our target audience was 18-25 year olds, we looked into existing social media apps with similar target audiences. We looked for inspiration for the layout and features for our own app. A familiar layout would make the app more user friendly.

We wanted to incorporate a profile page containing emergency information and QR code that links to an emergency page containing essential information. Iqt was important to research apps that had profile pages with QR codes, such as the NHS Covid pass app, Uni Bus and Tesco clubcard.

When researching safety/emergency/tracking features we looked into the iPhone Medical ID, NHS Contact Tracing and the Uber safety feature. We used the NHS app for inspiration as we wanted to incorporate a similar Bluetooth feature into our app.

We started our primary research by carrying out polls on Instagram due to Instagram and our app having similar target audiences. From the polls we concluded that people losing signal on a night out was an issue, and having an easy way to contact your friends especially in an emergency would be a very useful option.

The concept of the brief we recevied was the issue of young people (18-25) losing their friends on a night out or in a club. Particularly if they don’t have Wifi/mobile data. 

Our plan for our app ‘My Night’ was that it would be share similar properties to Life360 and Find My iPhone. We wanted the app to include other features to allow it to successfully fulfill the demands of the brief. We wanted the users to have access to a range of features such as: planning night’s out with their friends, setting meeting points, times and reminders. We also wanted the users to be able to add friends and family and share locations, as well as being able to communicate with one another via the app. As well as having an emergency feature.

This is the brief we created for another group. The problem we identified was looking after elderly people, with regards to their health, hobbies and happiness.

The brief outline some key points: we can create designs that respond to the needs of users and the format of their device in real time, wireframe and prototype potential solutions on paper before using XD, design of the app should demonstrate your understanding of typography, hierarchy of information and how interactive elements such as buttons allow the user to move from page to page and support your understanding of these areas via research into similar or competing products.

This is my final design for the Judge A Book By It’s Cover project. I learnt a lot throughout this unit, particularly experimenting with text and image to convey meaning.

This is the back, spine and front brought together. I was pleased with the overall consistency of the design.
