#we talk about the inherent whiteness of hockey a lot and I do to #I think that the whiteness of hockey is not necessarily the demographics of its player base but in some ways part of the cultural itself #but also the nhl is not hockey. the nhl does not represent the demographics of all hockey players ever #ryan lin is about five years younger than me which both is and isn’t a lot #and like it feels like the nhl gets a little more asian every year and isn’t that so exciting #and I hope that one day the nhl will be more reflective of all hockey players #and I hope that hockey will get more diverse in tandem #and I hope someday we will banish whiteness from the culture of the sport entirely

I'm writing this post at 3am and not putting in any main tags, because my intention is not really for it to be a Thing and frankly it feels kind of performative to be posting about in the first place. But I was so unsettled by how it was all white people in the photos of the jays asg representatives. Like, I know vladdy and jesús sánchez were also voted in and didn't attend because of injuries, I know that. This isn't a moral stance. This is me on my laptop on tumblr at 3am doing a journal entry. And my journal entry says that it was Weird and I didn't like it and I don't want to experience it again. and I'm not a huge asg person in general but the like memory of this all white person reality was such a bummer that it like, made not excited about the asg at all.

And this feels so stupid to be saying because I watch so much hockey and like. I'm literally white. obvs I'm japanese and onondaga too so it's not like I'm only white but I'm still white!!
