Dear White People.
You and I are part of a system, one that dates back to the beginning of the first step taken on the soil of this land. We take part in this system, we rejoice in this system, we utilize and succeed from this system. You are granted the key at birth, not just because of the pigment of your skin, but because for generations those with the same pigment have manipulated the economy and government to be in your favor.
Yes all of us don’t have a red carpet to an overpriced mortgage, private schools and fridge full of organic produce, but you do have your life. Blood runs through your veins, cells continue to multiple and oxygen continues to enter your lungs. When you usher your children to school, while you worry about bullies, mothers of color worry about more than that, a system that may murder her children because like 1000s of young people will fall due to the system that was granted to you.
When these days come around and you flood the airwaves with your thoughts, feelings and realizations that this system is so corrupt it’s a killing machine, remember you place. Remember those of color already know this, live this, there is no shock left for them, just another validating point that their life is sanctioned for open season.
If you have the indecency to enter another person of color’s space digitally or in real life, and you think you can decide if this is about racism or not, you are more than just a problem, you are the enforcer of the system. You can see and read and listen, and yet you know the facts. Well town idiot, the facts are part of the system, the facts of the process, the facts of the media, the facts of data are all meticulous put into place so people like you will continue to enforce the system.
If you are the person who continues to speak as if another terrifying life threatening legalizing action against people of color did not just happen, then you are also an enforcer. Your sharing of a frivolous or comedic thought in an ocean of hurt and fear, proves that you savor your privilege.
If you are the white person who claims, “I delete my racist friends” and you want a bunch of people of color patting you on the back, you are an enforcer. Although your intention may seem correct, your need to be shown as non-racists, in a system you clearly benefit from proves that you can live in the system also show how much better than you are of it. Stop just critiquing and start changing.
Then to consider how many of us never donate, volunteer or even vote, but when national new hits the airwaves you finally are a voice in this movement. You, me, all of us at some point are enforcers, we all take part, and unless we burn down or reform the system it will continue to stand this way. If you’re going to be anarchist be one, if you’re going to create change, do it, if your going to complain about this system then hand your time, money, and effort over to those of color. Empower people, step-aside, includes, hire, protest and do more than hit submit on a post.
Sincerely,
joey.
