1975, Queen are in Japan for their tour, and John spends a day with Freddie and their guides to discover the scenery and culture. Yet, everything reminds John of his wife, who's still in London and expecting their child. A painting workshop will be able to let John pour his longing onto a canvas of rice paper.

For Johnica Week 2024, prompts Flowers: Orchids, Surprise gift! and Handmade by the other.

Obviously the whole art workshop thing is made up for this fic, but I've always wanted to get inside John's head while strolling around japan, meeting children and taking pictures of everything! I hope you'll enjoy, I wrote this in basically a day without really double-checking obsessively as I usually do 😅

hey everyone, just wanted to quickly say that my Johnica Week entries are probably going to be very, very late this year. Why? Because I managed to completely break my phone earlier this week, which just so happened to have the only copies of my fics saved... There might be a way to recover them but it's proving quite difficult because I can't seem to be able to sign into anything without needing to do verification through my phone??? which obviously won't work. If I can't sign in, I'll just have to rewrite them which'll likely take quite some time as it took a few weeks to write them initially.

I promise I will have something posted at some point in the future. And please, learn from my stupidity - back up your work!!

Ok I am looking for the original interview where John talks about their wives being friends, I clearly remember it and also the bit about him and Veronica being "opposite" and about his father's death and his childhood memories, it was an interview with Brian but for God's sake I can only find my own post and @growfasterfaster 's bit with the quote "They get along very well. Brian’s wife Chrissie, Roger’s girlfriend Dominique, Freddie’s girlfriend Mary and my wife Veronica are all friends with each other."

I don't have any idea of why I'm struggling so much to find the whole interview nor why it's not on deaky.net, I know I haven't hallucinated it. I do have this screenshot saved, but I can't find the whole thing written online.

I only managed to find a photo of the article from the magazine it was written on, but no transcripts/translation... it seems someone transcribed it on tumblr at this point, but I can't find it... any help?

Okay, this has been driving me crazy because I swear I've read this whole thing. I've looked all through the internet and all I can seem to find is this translation from a Japanese interview of John's. In it, John talks about his childhood and Veronica and there's this part:

IR: Brian told us that the wives of the Queen members were all close to each other, and that was a factor in helping to keep the group from disbanding.

John: That’s right. Brian’s wife Chrissie, my Veronica, Roger’s girlfriend Dominique, and Freddie’s Mary are all good friends. Just the other day, we were all together for Mary’s birthday party.

...which makes me wonder if maybe this is similar to what you're looking for? John seems to be asked similar questions in this interview too. I have a screenshot of the whole interview if the link doesn't work.

Ahh I hope this helps! Otherwise, it might be best to see if you can use Google Translate for the original article but I doubt the quality will be good enough??

For this year's tribute I wanted to draw a younger Freddie, proudly admiring the final design of the Queen logo. I've always been fascinated by the fact he's drawn it himself, and by how much of himself he put into Queen (also demonstrated by the absolute care he had for all the memories he kept, as we saw at Sotheby's). I also wanted to draw him with cats, but not any cat... take a better look at them, can you recognise his inseparable best friends? 💖💖💖

The Theme 🎁

The 49th Wedding Anniversary comes soon before the huge milestone of the 50 years together, and it's usually represented by various symbols that I added to the prompts: Zircon, Orchids, the color Purple, and luxurious gifts. The main theme of this year's event is GIFTS, the act of giving the partner something material or abstract as an act of selflessness, that can have various meanings and various reactions.

Like all the prompts, it’s up to you to follow the theme or not, consider it just as a general theme that you could build your entries around. I chose some prompts that might fit this theme, that are about gifts as physical objects or as ideas for situations or alternative worldbuildings.

All the symbols represent the wealth of experience a couple has after being married for nearly five decades. Something a bit unusual from me, but I like to experiment! Some weeks ago @warriorteam1924 posted this picture of John from the Slightly Mad video set and I thought it would've been a good chance to try drawing with white on black canvas 💜💜💜 Also the original photo wasn't very detailed, so I liked keeping this graphic, almost silhouetted look ^^ ☆ Made digitally with Clip Studio Paint! 💖 As for me I think I'm going slightly mad at this point, I hope you're all feeling better than me-

"You're my best friend" 💕

Lately I've been thinking about John waiting to become a dad while staying at Ridge Farm with the band. We see him quite cheerful and cheeky as always during the visit of the Music Life crew (in the pics by Watal Asanuma), but I wanted to imagine him having a moment of homesickness and worry about his wife and the incoming baby, writing "You're my best friend" about them. I'm sure all the boys had been supportive at the time, trying to lift his mood whenever they could 💖 John is always such a mystery and there are so many things and thoughts we don't know, I really wonder how he felt at the time as he had to be away from his young and pregnant wife 🥺

This is also the occasional comic page I try to sketch, very rough and quick but always useful to refresh my knowledge. I hope you'll like it!
