Jane accepted the paper, laughing to herself with the overabundance of information regarding her new baking friend. Goodness! She agreed to message him as soon as she finished her shift, hearing the tell-tale sign of her coworker wandering back into the front of the shop. “Once you have my chumhandle and all of that, I expect a few pictures of whatever you decide to make, alright? I don’t want to be left hanging on whatever creative baking adventures you get yourself into. I’d be glad to share mine as well.” Jane wondered about her new friend’s baking skills, but with how excited he’d been over the scones….Jane could see this budding into a beautiful friendship. 

“You got it!” They’ll be the most friendly baking selfies in the history of ever. Before the creation process with all the ingredients lined up, during the baking, after the completion of the scones. Every pic will have an informative narration by John himself and probably contain his goofy face in some of them. “Cya later!” And with that, John is leaving the building to find a job, maybe fill in an application here (it won’t be accepted due to the amount of bakers the place already has, but not to worry, he gets to be a barber’s assistant in the coming future).

Great Head

As the veritable tarp was draped over her, Damara was pleasantly surprised to realize that it wasn’t nearly as uncomfortable as she remembered them being. It had been quite some time since she’d been to a hairdresser like this, but her recent involvement in a chemistry project had her far too busy to bother with her roots herself. The project itself wasn’t too difficult, but the fact that her partner was mute wasn’t helping much.  She couldn’t help but laugh at his response, one hand coming up to cover her mouth in an antiquated ladylike gesture, as though she had never heard such profanity. What came out of her mouth next completely obliterated that illusion, however. “You ever want practice, am always available.” The garnish on her bawdy statement was a wink. She resisted the urge to laugh again, trying to stay still considering John had the sharpest scissors she’d ever seen in his hands, and pretty soon they’d be dangerously close to her body.

John wasn’t going into this completely by himself. Technology was also on his side when he nudged a button indented into the top side of the chair. Something that looked like a magnifying glass came out of the back section of the chair, attached to a small crane that seemed to follow John’s eyes around. This device would assist in pinpointing where he should cut to get the best possible outcome, which in this case meant Damara was less likely to bleed profusely from her cranium due to a human error on his part.

On any other day John may have been overcome with flusteredness, but he thought that they were just playing around with the, well, wordplay, so he continues through with this little “game” that they invented on the spot. Sort of like how far they were willing to take this until one of them backs down deals. “That’s really kind of you! It would be dumb of me not to take you up on that offer.” Grin plastered on his face, he focuses on his job, spraying Damara’s head with the water bottle nozzle combination, switching the scissors for a comb to get her hair in the proper position to be cut.

Great Head

The cheerful demeanor of the barber shop employee, who had introduced himself as John, was contagious. Lately, Damara had been in a kind of funk, but the constant smiling faces she was surrounded with were really starting to get to her. She couldn’t help but smile back at him as she followed his instructions, heading over to the designated chair. Honestly, she was glad it was just under the cut for the machines – she didn’t quite trust those things. Sure, she had no reason to trust John, either, but she found it much easier to put her looks in the hands of a human being than a hair-styling machine. Without hesitation, she sat down in the chair. “How long you have been working here?” she asked absently, getting herself comfortable in the seat. “Is fun? You like giving great head?” Try as she might, Damara couldn’t conceal her grin. “Not upset to be on the receiving end, for sure.”

As soon as Damara was properly situated on the chair, he pushed it slowly and stopped the spinning until she could see herself in the mirror. John took the barber’s gown and neck strip from the countertop below the mirror, being cautious as he wrapped it around the customer’s neck and stuck the ends together out of her sight. The gown came next, the flowing material eclipsing the majority of Damara’s body since she was sitting. Unlike the days of old, she should only be /slightly/ itchy from the combination of the neck strip and the gown pressing into it when John buttoned it up.

When he heard Damara’s questions, he outright snorted from how hilarious the questions were. Sure, he had heard the stories that his employer had told him about customers that really had a riot when it came to the name of the shop, and of course it was mentioned while he was working here either awkwardly or otherwise. But she was just so upfront about it that his voice practically squeaked when he tried to control himself.

“Hehe! I’ve been working here for almost a month now! Yeah, it’s fun, and it’s especially worth it when” Snicker. “the elephant in the shop is talked about!” John keeps rolling with it, walking over to the counter to take the highest tech of haircut supplies in his hands: a water bottle and scissors so precise it could have been used to cut a millimeter off a grain of sand. “I think the thing that’s helped me out most of all was all the practice I’ve done by myself.” Sheesh, he hoped he didn’t go too far with that, although Damara can just HEAR his eyebrows waggling.

Great Head

Damara tilted her head slightly, making a face at John as he spoke. Was this place really called Great Head, or was he just fucking with her? She hadn’t bothered to read the sign outside, but needless to say she was skeptical of the whole ordeal. Nonetheless, she let it slide, keeping her composure as she took another few steps toward John. In a fluid motion, she tugged her hair out of the bun, letting mostly-blonde locks fall down over her shoulders and down to about her mid-back. With a quick gesture, she pointed out her roots, followed by the split ends. The way she looked at John said it should have been obvious to him, and why was he even asking? But her tone didn’t give away any of the annoyance her expression did. “Touch-up. Roots, half-inch off the ends. Simple.” Suddenly she was smiling, wide and friendly. After all, she didn’t want to get on the bad side of the person who was about to make or break her hairdo.

Yep. Damara had entered the barber shop known only as Great Head (part of the reason why he even bothered applying was because of the innuendo alone).

He stood by, his hand going up to his chin to rub it in thought as he examined Damara’s hair as closely as was polite. “Hmm. I... think that might be just under the minimum requirement to use the machines on.” He wished he had a second opinion in the form of his supervisors, but it looks like he was going to be alone with the customers for a while. Better make a good impression then!

He can do a touch up. Can’t be that difficult, and he has done it before a few times to be comfortable with just doing this and not after the machine has basically done what the customer mostly envisioned. “Step this way please!” He went over to his station, making sure the machine was in it’s idle mode before turning the seat portion of the swerving, stationary chair over to Damara.

Jane laughed as he wrote it down, unable to help herself. “Be sure to save me a piece or two then.” Jane grinned, enjoying the fact that she’d gotten someone so excited over baked goods. She really hoped her father couldn’t see her now, mostly because he’d start crying and that was something no one needed to be apart of. She was not going to go into a business degree because she’d given someone good baking advice.  “Uh, sure. If you want to of course.” What in the world? “Wouldn’t it be easier to give me your handle or your phone number though? What if I turn out to be a weirdo, huh?” Jane teased on that last bit.

“... Good point, even though I’m ninety-eight percent sure you aren’t a weirdo. Unless baking delicious things like this scone makes you one but in that case I don’t give a flying cookie about it!” John’s mind is like a flying cookie at this point. Moist, soft, and distracting. For some reason he thought giving Jane his room number would be far less embarrassing than giving her his number, and did she just mention handles out of the blue? Well, it was THE go to chat service these days, so it made sense that she mentioned it.

“That does sound easier too, so here!” He gives Jane back the piece of paper, which had his name, room number, phone number AND chumhandle on it now.

Any more waiting, and Feferi thought she might leave to get a hot drink. This kid was taking forever, and it was cold! She was seriously considering it, up until the last moment. Here came that Egbert boy now, almost as fast as a certain blue hedgehog, but not quite. Mainly being human and not a video game character. She raised her eyebrows as he keeled over to take a breath, wondering just how long he was running like this. “It’s fine. Are you alright?” She half squatted down in a sort of concerned way with her head tilted. Already out of breath and they hadn’t even started yet (even if he had just been running.) She hoped he didn’t get sick from this.

After he got his breath back was when the real questions would begin. “So, do you have any plans for this? It won’t do us much good to just wander around waiting for something to happen in there. Especially if there is something, then we’ll just get ourselves hurt.” She really hoped there wasn’t anything in there. It’s not that she was afraid or anything, but just, you didn’t mess with things you didn’t know. It could lead to bad stuff.

He had ran all the way from first his job to his campus room, and from that place to here after getting prepared for a night out at the speed of excited young adult. The chilly weather didn’t help much in the breathing department either, and he was most likely going to catch a cold after this, but he knew it would be worth it since he actually got someone to go along with his crazy idea to sneak into the campus kitchen after hours. He had plotted the route they were goint to take and everything, studying the layout after hours in his free time, and all that hard work was going to be put to the test.

“The kitchen is huge if we’re going to start where all the tables are, so we might be able to spend a good amount of time exploring the place first of all. Then, if nothing particularly spooky happens, I was hoping we could stick around a little while longer in one of the back areas where they keep all the food. But don’t worry, I brought us some spare lights and snacks on the go just in case we need them while we stake out the potential ghost hot spots!” And it all fit in his pockets for easy transporation. Gotta love the technology one can find on Skaia.

Great Head

Ugh. Her visage in the mirror looking back at her on this dreary afternoon was not exactly up to her standards. For one, her roots were starting to show, and that was just no bueno. Pulling her hair down out of its signature bun and fiddling with the strands, trying to assess the damage, she slowly began to come to the conclusion that it was time. She needed to deal with these split ends, besides. With a huff and a puff, she looked down at her PJ pants and tanktop. There had been no plans to leave the house today; she hadn’t planned an outfit.  As she pulled her hair back into the bun, she just decided: Fuck it. Her pajamas would be her outfit. Sure, she had to slip on some busted old sneakers instead of her slippers, but she was still pretty comfortable. So, off she went. With no idea where she was going, she set off in search of some kind of salon. When she came across the barber shop, she made a face. Weren’t barber shops typically for men? Then again, this was the future she was living in. These things were probably unisex by now, right? With a colossal shrug, she walked in, looking around for someone who could help her. Spotting John, she sidled over with a yawn. “You work here?”

His thoughts were on the things he has learned while training under the barber who basically ran this store himself along with one other employee that came when the season to get a haircut was in, which was of course not a thing that actually exists. The both of them were generally kind people and he was taught the ropes in a fair amount of time. His only experience cutting people’s hair involved himself and experimenting with his dad’s shaving cream from time to time, so this was something nice to have under his belt regardless.

Hearing that worn hanging door bell jingle brought John’s attention to the front of the store, so he promptly leaned the broom on a something or other as he met Damara half way, a friendly, customer serving smile taking place on his face. The barber shop has changed over the many years that its been a thing, but at the end of the day it’s not your usual place to get your hair styled like at a salon. Shaving and trimming and cutting the air into flattops and fades are the name of the game here, and that’s typically what the machines were programmed to do.

“Welcome to Great Head! Yes, I work here, and my name is John. What do you need help with today?”

The Ball Pit... of DEATH.

Carlos has seen some pretty fucking stupid things in his life, but eventually there had to be a limit. Even after listening to the students about the stupid shit Caliborn pulled with his idiot friend along with the new sleaze on campus, he thought ‘now I’ve seen it all’ but as it turns out, there is always a bigger idiot.

It was just a normal day, wake up, have some coffee, do job, there wasn’t supposed to be anything except for a normal day on the job. After walking through the campus just enjoying the fresh air Carlos had stepped on something squishy, what was it? Picking it up and looking at it revealed it to be an unremarkable little blue ball, thinking nothing of it and tossing it aside didn’t stop him from noticing the fact that there were more of them. Odd, where were they coming from? Following the trail lead to the answer. Ball after ball, surprised expression to shocked face, what the fuck was going on here?

Carlos had seen some pretty fucking stupid things in his life, but this, this was the limit. There it was, the fountain in the middle of campus, drained, dried, and filled with… little, plastic balls of bright colours. There was even a student in the ball bit acting as if he had just achieved fucking nirvana. Walking to the fountain and looking at the student playing in bright plastic bliss, Carlos picked up a ball and tossed it at his head to get his attention. After seeing the look of acknowledgement Carlos had only one question for the man child “Dude… what the fuck.”

The bonk to his head resounding in the way plastic hits flesh (which is basically just the plastic bounching off his forehead) had woken up John from his stupor. This. This wasn’t a dream that he was having. It was real, and through a strange turn of events the dream had become a reality. His memories came flooding back. An idea. Everything that ever was had to be an idea before it became. That idea flourished when he saw the empty fountain in the middle of campus this one fateful day. He knew he had to take advantage of that by any means possible. Of course John wasn’t the one who set everything up so that the fountain was drained, that was a physical impossibility since there was no way he would have had access to those kinds of dealies or the know-how of operating a fountain’s draining process.

What John did have were a very particular set of skills. Skills that he had used to get as many plastic balls from the literal pits of his childhood over to the fountain as fast as he could. They were ordered online. We’re talking exclusive, by the HOUR type of service that only Skaia could achieve. These incredible folks had deposited the balls in such a way that within the dead of night even John’s next job was easy when it came to transporting and ejecting every single one of them into the shallow pool size space of the fountain. And now his smirk was ever present, GROWING even when he glanced at Carlos. “Everything is right in the universe now that this exists here and now.” He says as if Carlos were an old friend, or a misinformed stranger.

Like a Cat Out of Hell

People often found it surprising how studious the youngest Leijon daughter actually was, forgetting that behind the easily detracted and goofy nature was a woman who desperately wanted to better the lives of animals. Going into veterinary medicine had been the easiest choice she ever made, even if the course work was grueling. With an exam coming up in Animal Anatomy, she was tacking on extra study time where ever she could. Rubbing her eyes, bleary from staring at the countless anatomical diagrams, she grabbed her mug and let out an annoyed groan when she found it empty. Nepeta had been consuming a steady amount of tea throughout the evening and it was finally catching up to her.

Pushing herself from her chair, she made her way across the room, praying the neither of her roommates were using the bathroom. Doing a little happy dance, she waltzed in and slammed the door behind her. Dropping her pants, Nepeta sat down on the toilet, but before anything else could happen, she was startled by a loud POP from underneath her. Screeching, she jumped up and promptly tripped on the pants around her ankles, letting out another shout as landed on the floor. Blinking on the floor in a confused haze, she heard a muffled laugh coming from the common room. “Oh someone is going to be so fucking sorry.” She muttered, hauling herself from the ground and struggling to get her pants back on. Throwing open the door, Nepeta emerged from the bathroom like fury, advancing towards the source of her mishap: John Egbert.

John Egbert was many things. Polite, funny, handsome, dedicated, and long-winded being a few prime descriptors of the bucktoothed young man. After he had finished his work for today, work being both the job and school assignment variety, he had decided to treat himself like any respectful person who thought they deserved something nice at the end of the day as a reward for not having a mental breakdown doing homework or complaining externally about how much his legs hurt. That reward was in the form of Netflix and chilling out by himself on the couch in the common room of his dorm, nothing but the clothes on his back, a remote in his hand, and popcorn being stuffed into his face. Of course, the only other thing that would make this exceptionally better....

... Was if the perfect prank had been pulled after a simple setup some time before his roommates actually got back to the dorm. It wasn’t as if he disliked them. By all means, they seemed like great people! But no matter how nice someone appeared, no matter what they have done in both positive and negative aspects, no matter who they were as a person, absolutely nothing can get in the way of being the victim of a prank. It was an urge passed down through the Egbert line and John had to scratch this itch like he had waited years for it. It just so happened that Nepeta was unfortunate enough to be in direct path of his rising Prankster Gambit. The second he heard that POP, he just lost it, holding onto his gut and letting loose a bellowing laugh. He was still wiping the tears of joy from his eyes before he noticed that someone had been set off just like the tiny popper he planted.

And he was the target of their frustration. Oh boy.

The beginning of a new school year, and the beginning of new clubs. Feferi had signed up for a number of them, though not too many as to bog herself down. A peculiar club had popped up, the occult club, which after a little debate, she had thrust herself in. The paranormal side of the world greatly interested her, and it would be fun to see who else would be joining. Perhaps they could talk about the things they’ve read or watched, mysterious legends on the internet from long ago, or even about their own experiences with the subject! It was definitely going to be fun she thought.

That was last week. While some of the things she had hoped for were starting to come true, one of the members, John Egbert, had decided to enlist in a search for people to go exploring mysterious occurrences surrounding the school. She didn’t want to particularly go (her momma had always warned her to not go seeking out ghosts and the sort), but his pestering of everyone was getting on her nerves. Finally she accepted his offer, much to his delight, and they set a date of when to meet up and expand further on this expedition.

Two days later, Feferi was waiting out near the big fountain at 5pm. A nice pair of black leggings, pink sneakers, a long, blue shirt and a light jacket adorned her frame as she waited for John to get there. The wind that blew by was a little bit chilly as she tugged her jacket closed. She hoped he would get there soon.

John KNEW that he had stumbled across something big when he step foot on planet Skaia for the first time. Besides the desire to further his education, there was something awesome and mysterious about literally being on another planet for the first time! There was so much to do, so much to see, and he hasn’t even STARTED on the neighboring Derse and Prospit yet. One of the things he stumbled upon was the rumor that main kitchen area was haunted, and he knew that he just needed to bring someone else to share the experience with. If he went by himself, no one would believe him, and it’s sort of depressing getting spooked all on your own.

That’s why he was so insisted to the members of the paranormal club. Yes, he may have been annoying everyone. Yes, he knew that the rumors may just be that, rumors that hold no confirmation whatsoever and would waste everyone’s valuable time. But the thrill of hunting for this sort of activity was what mattered most! Sometimes the journey is more enjoyable than the destination after all. Thank GOD he found someone by the name of Feferi Peixes to go with him. He tried to assure her that it’ll be worth both their time, but at this point even he knew how much pity he could obtain with the amount of days that passed by since he first started recruiting to no avail.

He was so late and he knew that too, but it was only by a few minutes as he rushed to get to the fountain, the cold air stinging his throat and lungs as he huffed and booked it. John ended up stopping, hands on his knees and hunched over as he tried to catch his breath while breaking into a sweat. He held up one finger for he needed one moment, long jeans covering his legs with yellow sneakers underneath. A blue hoodie kept his body warm, a shirt and wife-beater below that to preserve that warmth as he fwooped back the hoodie part to reveal his smiling face. “Sorry that I’m late!”

Jane rolled her eyes as he joked more, finally taking a sip of his juice. Goodness. At least her morning wasn’t boring, which was really nice. Not to mention he went along with her sarcasm and jokes. Jane found it awkward to watch someone eat, busying herself with wiping off a few spigots on the espresso machine. Where was her coworker, seriously? Hearing John’s astounded reply, Jane laughed nervously, rubbing her forearm. “W-well now, I didn’t really expect to hear that! It’s just a simple scone recipe. It’s about putting love into everything you do, you know?” Jane knew she was flushed slightly, which was kind of silly. “I just…instead of milk do orange juice, fresh only, or half it with milk, and fresh orange zest.” She shrugged.

Love into everything he does. He knows for a fact that’s easier said than done, but if Jane’s scones were any example to go by that mindset, it was all worth trying in John’s opinion! He nibbles on his scone in thought, drinking the orange juice to wash the scone down before looking at both items once the recipe was told to him. It was kind of like realizing that cookies are made from more than just chocolate chip combined with cookie dough.

“Fresh orange juice... shit shit I have to write this down!” He sets his food and drink to the side as he reaches into his backpack grab a note scanner, tracing the words on it to remind him about the milk substitute and orange zest, all fresh of course. Then he’ll probably have luck with getting a scone recipe online. “Thank you so much, Jane! I owe you one if you ever want any of my leftover baking, heh.” He does end up making more than necessary after all since he isn’t living with his father anymore. “Do you want my room number at the campus just in case?”

For just a moment, Jane really thought she had gone too far. Which was possible, Jane was bad at telling when it was too much sometimes. Ok, a lot of the time. So as soon as John started to frown, Jane was worried until he busted up laughing. Jane couldn’t help but start to chuckle as he gripped the side of the counter, doubling over as he choked out some silly reply.  “Wow, ok. Looks like the tutoring session won’t happen then, huh? Hoohoo!” Jane giggled even harder, unable to help herself. She couldn’t help but laugh when someone else was laughing, especially if they were laughing hard enough to double over and gasp for air. It was pretty great. At least he didn’t think she was a dick. “Don’t choke on your coffee please. Or the scones.”

It took him a full fledged minute before Egbert calmed himself down enough to listen to Jane, smiling and sighing happily as his fingers flicked at the last few tears of joy threatening to spill onto his cheeks. He glances down at his breakfast meal of choice, remembering that he had just purchased it and nodding along as he got his breath back.

“Jeez, all that laughing and I haven’t even bitten into one of these things! Time to break the wine on this maidan scone voyage.” He lifts up his orange juice first, taking a sip since hydration was important he was a bit parched from his morning walk. After another refreshing sigh, he lifted a scone to his mouth and took a big bite. Chew chew chew, gulp. “W-Whoa...! That tastes amazing! I have to have the recipe for these things stat.”

Great Head

This wouldn’t be the first career that John Egbert had sprung in his mind when he considered what part time employee jobs were out there in the market waiting to be swooped up. At first he thought that people needed licences and to go to a specific school to be taught in the ways of managing people’s do, but it turns out that technology has really caught up to, well, everything these days. Even John has been to these sorts of stop and shops as well. People were busy busy busy nowadays, so this kind of thing being streamlined was simply the go-to place for the populace to get a load off.

The barber shop. He didn’t think he’d make it in, since cutting people’s hair was the choice he figured he wouldn’t have to take when it came to jobs, but since he was basically rejected from every other place he took it on the grounds that it was going to be a fresh experience from baking with his dad, a new skill to learn, and hey, it could even help improve his looks from time to time. But overall John was just kicking his training boots off, the young Egbert being in charge of the whole shop for a few hours since all it really took was to get someone set up near the machines and let themselves decide what they want. He’s there to make sure everything goes as planned and to put the finishing touches on what any customer wants, since they, of course, were always right. And there he was, sweeping the floor like the days of old, waiting for someone to enter so he could give them Great Head.

Okay, that one was pretty freaking terrible. Jane actually rolled her eyes, knowing full well that rolling them at a customer was probably not the proper response. If it had been anyone else, Jane would have smiled and laughed pathetically. However, this guy knew that his joke was shit, and her nose was totally normal! Jane crinkled said nose up as he giggled.  “I don’t have a major at the moment, I’m mostly taking a lot of general studies and some fun classes. One of them deals with how to tell jokes and not sound like a total goober while doing so. I think you might need take it, and I know just the perfect tutor.” Ok, whoa Janey, don’t go too far with this. It was too early and after three cups off coffee in two and a half hours, she was going to start blabbering soon and act like a dummy. “Sorry, that went a bit farther than expected.”

He was happy that he could just relax with someone like Jane before the rest of the day tackled him head on like a figurative football player waiting in the shadows of the mornings to slam his body into fatigue. The joke seemed to have worked wonders because for a second it wasn’t just an employee talking to a customer, but rather two people hanging out in the wee early hours.

He listened in and nodded, his smile fading by the time he was called a goober. For a instant he seemed upset, which wouldn’t really help anyone in this situation, job or otherwise. But then he bursts out laughing suddenly, clutching his side and the counter in glee. “Nope, too late, I-I tried taking that class and they said no professionals allowed!” And John is just flat out losing it right there, wiping at tears of joy that were welling in the corners of his eyes.

“I think the saying goes that you eat with your eyes first?” Jane teased, taking his card. She scanned it and typed in the price, waiting for the card to be accepted. Which it wasn’t. Jane frowned and scanned it once more, glancing to John. It did accept thankfully, and Jane sighed in relief before handing it back to John. That would have ended badly.  “So, what are you majoring for here? I haven’t seen you around before.” Jane started up, pulling out the receipt and handing it over to him along with his scones and drink. There was no one else around to take care of, and her coworker still hadn’t returned from her texting break in the bathroom. Ugh. “I’m sorry if I sound nosy.”

“That sounds kind of like a horror movie I’ve watched.” Or was it a cartoon? “Where the eyeball literally opens up like it was combined with mouth and you just see the orb crunching down on whatever it decided to put in there.” That.. might be disturbing to most people. John blames his still-waking mind on having not a lot of filter at the present moment. He seemed to tense just a little when his card wasn’t accepted, doubting for a second that he didn’t have enough payment remaining somehow. A visible slump of his shoulders after it went through, John gave a nod to the cashier/server lady.

“I’m majoring in biology. As for what type of biology, I’m not so sure since I just got here, like here here on the planet not even a month ago.” He takes his card and puts it in its secured place, shifting the food and drink items near him but not moving away from the counter just yet. “You’re not nosy, I don’t think your nose is that big!” As he cracks the joke, he giggles, mostly at himself for how terrible it was. “What about your major?”

The Ball Pit... of DEATH.

It was needless to say if anyone knew John that he would have planned this for the longest while. Since he was aware of its very existence, this trip was a long time coming. The feeling upon letting his eyes settle on the treasure that was the miniature rectangular playground of plastic orbs was unlike anything he had ever known before. It was longing. It was love. It was nostalgia the likes of which even movies couldn’t even hope to achieve after watching them the first time, forgetting about them for years, and seeing them pop up on T.V. Truly, this was the pinnacle of his existence. Every single moment before now had led him to this. 

He was dressed casually for the occasion, but if Egbert had his way he would have gone the full four-hundred and twenty miles when it came to showing how much the ball pit meant to him. He was thinking a candlelit dinner by the moon-side shore, gazing into the multicolored pattern of it’s exterior and alluring beauty of the spherical shapes past a quick, hard ramp. Violins would play sweet, yet fiery music straight from the hearts of bribed musicians. Then, he would take it home after a wonderful, splendid walk back, concluding the night by tumbling into the influential depths and resting among the embrace, the caress of the familiar smelling globes.

It smelled like childhood. And this adult probably looked very out of place, slowly sinking among the random assortment of colored, round and squishable pellets, lost in his own imagination.

Scones, muffins, croissants, oh my!

The young man that walked in was more awake than any of the other students she’d seen that morning, which was good. Jane disliked having to listen to some random mumbling and trying to figure out what was being said. With his order, Jane turned on her heel, grabbing two towels as makeshift oven mitts to move the pan of scones. “Coming right up, hold on just a moment.”  Jane picked up a polished plate from the steel table set behind her, turning back around gracefully and used tongs to gather up three still-warm scones . Orange juice appeared from under the table, ice-cold from sitting in the fridge since they’d opened that morning.  “That’s a good choice, these are orange-butter scones. ” Jane tapped his order into the cash register, glancing up at him with bright blue eyes. “Is there anything else I can get for you this morning, Mister…?” Jane hadn’t seen him before in the cafe, meaning he was probably either new or just really hungry to buy three scones so early in the morning from the cafe rather than heading to the school’s cafeteria. The food wasn’t bad, but Jane would rather eat a pastry in the morning, rather than something heavy herself.

John does just that, holding on for several moments while he goes through the day’s schedule in his head. Maybe he was getting ahead of himself since he still wanted to ask about any job applications here- and wouldn’t you know it, the pastry wasn’t the only eye candy around! Eye... pastry? Either way, Jane’s appearance and upbeat attitude were exactly what John needed this morning. It pretty much was a shame he probably wouldn’t nab a job like this since they already had such a cute face manning the front. Zing.

That zing didn’t make any sense, but it did in his head. After Jane had said mister, he completes that sentence with “John. And I’ve never tried orange-butter scones before! They just look very appealing to me, and my empty stomach helps a lot in deciding what should go into it.” He views the scones hungrily with his deep blue eyes, offering up his card to scan. Fate had lead him here because the cafeteria would be too far away for the path he was taking, even if it was probably a better destination coming from the campus living area.
