It has been months since I have used my film cameras since the photo lab near my place broke their film developing machine. Sadly, I have to scout in and out of the metro to find a new developing shop. Since I lost my job, I do not have the capability to self-develop my rolls and the finances to buy expensive chemicals, tanks and all. Some shot rolls are even standing still for developing...
But when I saw this 12 rolls of Kodak BW400CN film at a Japan Surplus shop, I just grabbed the damn pack and make a bargain (or Tawad/Baratan in Filipino) with the store's caretaker for 70 pesos for the whole 12-pack roll. What a bargain! They do not know the real value of these and the quality of these rolls can do...
Kodak BW400CN is a black and white film that can be processed or developed using C-41 - meaning, these can be developed at regular photo labs that also processes colour film. Sadly, a lot of photo labs do not develop and/or solely process digital outputs only from digital cameras, DSLR and the like...
Well, off to some field test and familiarization. And back to the viewfinder again... :D
Out of Commission - Temporarily
The shop where I've developing my rolls recently stopped developing film due to chemical leaks in their machine. Sadly, they are just the only ones who can develop film on a tight/budget rate here in the province.
Any info on photo labs that still develop film in Manila or Cavite will help...

It has been a ass-hauling day today. Going to Manila ain't the same as before especially when your commuting the "Rush Hour" rush from my province from the south to the city. Traffic jams, concrete re-blocking here and there, closed and re-opened U-turns, unpaved/non-asphalted to partially asphalted roads. Not to mention all-of-the-sudden/'shrooming palm trees,plants and flora at the central islands of EDSA Extension. (*I thought planting starts from seeds?!? Speaking of "Instant") :P
Are you familiar with this situation: During festivities or "fiesta", we tend to prepare so much even we don't have anything to give/or the capacity to prepare? We cover up bodegas, trash/garbage with large cloth, sacks, bamboo walls or if resourceful - with used up tarpaulins just to cover up eye-sores? Or paint walls and decor for that special event to cover for cracks, unpaved concrete walls, graffiti or to cover inch think carbon deposits caused by smoke-belching vehicles?
The same thing in the metro today. What for you say?!? - its for the 45th ADB or Asian Development Bank Annual Meeting here in the country. Delegates/Foreign dignitaries fly-in to our congested airports while the common "Pinoy" get stranded, flights delayed or worst - cancelled flights. They drive with their high-end shuttles and cars together with their "Hagad" patrol escorts like a "hot knife through butter" traffic; while the common "Pinoy" faces the heat and the mile-long traffic congestion...
But, one thing caught my out-most attention: MMDA officers wearing "shorts" while on duty. Not to mention a red and yellow hat. Is it for show? Is it just to "Dress-To-Impress" kind of thing? Or is it a new Fashion Statement - Pants-Out, Shorts are the new "It/In/Uso"?!?

Semana Santa
Semana Santa or "Mahal na Araw" or Holy Week. It is a week long celebration of the life, dead and resurrection of our lord, Jesus Christ. It also commemorates the salvation of mankind by the sacrifice HE gave in behalf...
Here are some activities during this Holy Week:
Palm Sunday (Araw ng Palaspas)
"Palaspas"
It starts with "Araw ng Palaspas" or Palm Sunday. This commemorates the time that Jesus Christ entered his city - where the people greeted his entry by waving and placing leaves and leaves of palm along his route while rejoicing. In our small city of Dasmarinas, townsfolk wake up as early as 4 AM to have their "Palaspas" blessed in four "kubol" or stations scattered within the church's vicinity. Some say, if your "palaspas" is blessed in one of the stations, its already "blessed". Others say that you need to have it "blessed" in all four stations. Once blessed, old folk legends say that it has the power to ward of evil spirits. Also, remember Ash Wednesday? Those ashes came from dried-up "palaspas".
Pabasa/Pasyon
"Pabasa"
During this week, you can hear this from every street, on every corner - especially of they are using a very loud PA/ amplifier. Oh yes! Its the "Pabasa" or "Pasyon" . It is a verse narrative of the life, suffering and death of Christ summarized in a all-day-long sing-along. It maybe accompanied by an acoustic guitar, a melody of sorts or in its modern times - Rap it out. Sing your lungs out and give praise!
Station of the Cross (Daan ng Krus)
"Via Crucis"
"Daan ng Krus" or Via Crucis. This remembers the suffering and passion of Christ - From the Last Supper to His Death and Resurrection - 14 stations in all. Each station portraits a story - a story on how He sacrificed his own life. Also, the station of the cross doesn't tell of Christ alone. Here also included are his apostles, his loyal followers, Mother Mary as well, and some roman authorities and other significant people.
"Yapak"
Here in out town, some do go to other churches and commemorate the station of the cross on every church they have been - also known as "Visita Iglesia" . Some do wake up early on Good Friday or "Biyernes Santo" to attend the Via Crucis on foot (Yes! Bare foot!) along the streets of the town proper.
Final Words: Well, it doesn't matter how you celebrate this special week. What matters most is the love and faith we have not only to ourselves and to others - but mostly to our creator. Whatever you religion is, whoever you are, God is there - Forever and Always!

"Commex"
Commuter Express or Commex; is the PNR's commuter rail/train service that runs from Tutuban Station up to Alabang Station. Air-conditioned unlike its predecessors, it provides quite a comfort and security with its grill-covered windows and tempered glass. But, you should have the guts to ride these during rush hours - its more like a sardine can packed full to the brim.
