So here is my contribution to the photos of the phenomenal John Lloyd Young at Feinstein’s in San Francisco. I wish I could write a brilliant review of a brilliant performance but I’m not much of a writer. But this is the way I describe John Lloyd’s voice to other people. I call it a “Grand Canyon” voice. Do you remember the first time you saw the Grand Canyon? You stood there with your mouth open and maybe stopped breathing for a few seconds because it was so astoundingly beautiful and breathtakingly gorgeous that you almost couldn’t move taking it all in and perhaps it brought you to tears (it did for me.) That’s the way I feel when I hear this man sing. Listening to that incredibly lush, vibrant, passionate voice transports you to someplace extremely special (heaven, perhaps) that you never want to leave. When he speaks to the audience, he is so personable and engaging and he talks with such sincerity that you feel as though you are just hanging out with a good friend in his living room. It’s an amazing feeling experiencing a John Lloyd Young show. One I hope to experience many more times in the future. I highly recommend it!
