(RP that I and Haâuruh âHowlâ Nunh did a few days ago.)
John Waterstrike sipping on a cup of tea, he grins at Kit. Â "Glad my voice is back...ugh." he said, though there is a bit of roughness to his voice still.
Howl had just stepped in from outside. Â He glances up, his ears giving a bit of a wiggle at seeing John. Â "'Ey there," he greets him with a smile and a raised hand.
"Howl...." he says as he exits from the stairs. Â "Ah, I'm glad you're here." he says, voice taking on an eager tone. Â He sets the half finish cup down on the desk before moving quickly over to Howl.
Howl holds out his arms to John. Â "You okay? Â You're soundin' right rough... gettin' over a cold?"
Kit giggles. Â 'Lost voice because of it.'
John gave her a half-hearted glare. Â "Kit is correct. Â I didn't have much of a voice when you gave me that gift, Howl."
Howl scratches one ear, smiling a little abashedly. Â "Oh! Â S'good to hear. Â Thought maybe you were upset with me or somethin'. Â Y'seemed kinda off."
"The hazard of being a healer...and working with children." John blinks..."You...thought I was upset." Â He shakes his head. Â "Howl, it was wonderful. Â It was a great gift." Â He reachs out to takes, Howl's hand. Â "I've got it put up in my room," he says, preparing to drag Howl over to his room.
Howl lets himself get dragged off. Â "Wh-whoa! Â You did, huh? Let's see it then." Â He gives Kit a charming smile on his way past.
"Peace! Â It's right bare in here. Â We need to get you some rugs."
John grins as they get into his room. Â "Got it up there." Â He snorts. "Haven't seen any rugs that caught my eye. Â Though Tanya is even more bare." Â He sighs at the lack of work the two hadn't be able to do on the would-be medical room.
Howl squints around the room, then spies the clock up on the far end. "For a moment, thought you didn't even have a bed. Â Though that one ain't big enough for two." He gives John a sly grin, then goes over to inspect the clock. Â "Looks good up there. Â Didn't have no trouble gettin' it on the wall, yeah?"
John blinks and then blush at Howl's statement. Â "If I didn't know better...I think you were taking teasing lesson from Sei." Â He looks up at the clock. Â "Took a bit to get it up there...it was heavier than I thought."
Howl glances back at him and smiles. Â "Sorry. Â Ain't tryin' to embarrass you none. Â I like flirtin' with you."
John sighs before grinning. Â He quickly moves over, catching Howl with a quick kiss. Â He drew back, blushing. Â "I love it. Â Thank you so much for the gift, Howl."
Howl reddens a bit too under his perpetual tan, then grins and scratches an ear. "If I knew I'd get that just for making a clock, I'd've made right more furniture. Â Or maybe some jewelry for you. Â Y'got anything what you want? Â Earrings, or bracelets or something?"
John sighs. Â "Um, never really thought about jewelry. Â He reachs up fingering at the necklace that rest against some to the scarring across his chest and neck. Â "Really, Howl, you know you don't have to get me anything. Â I'm happy being by your side."
Howl frowns, noticing the scars. Â He leans in close to inspect them. Â "How'd you get all of these...?"
John eyes flickers off to the side. Â "It's been a long time ago now." he says. Â The slightly darker tan seems to make the scars stand out more. Some of the others could barely be seen. "It happened when I was first part of Titor's unit." Â He held up his hand. Â "It was something from Tanya...and I guess my pass."
Howl is still frowning slightly. Â He goes to take a seat, though John didn't exactly invite him to. "Got time to listen, if you feel like tellin' the tale."
John eyes blink open for the thousand time as he laid in bed after his and Howlâs talk. Â He knew he promise to try and sleep but there was still so much going on in his head. Â He places a hand over his heart, letting his mind drift back to what happen. Â From him telling Howl about the scars that range along the left side of his body to what Howl had told him.
He sat up, much to the protest of Sassy, who hiss at him before she moves down to the end of the bed. He watches the cat curl back up into a ball.  John pulls up his right leg, wrapping his arm around it as he thought back to what Howl had told him.  That he was starting to have feelings for him, his fears, his worries, and what he, Warren, and Sei had done.  He sighs, feeling warmth bloom in his chest, having finally said the word to Howl.  âI love you,â he whispers, remembering the shock on Howlâs face that when he had spoken those words to him.  That the other was starting to feel the same⊠he closed his eyes, savoring that memory.
John open his eyes, chewing on his lip as he remembers the bombshells that Howl then told him. Â That Howl trusted him enough with âThatâ secret. That he had three lives to protect with that secret that was told. Â He wouldnât let his partner down. Â He would make sure no one would find out about that. Â For one quick moment, he was glad that Tanya couldnât use that part of her Echo anymore. Â No one would find out about it. Â He would make sure of it.
He groans as he remembers the other bombshell that Howl had told him. Â âGods how am I going to face Warren at the Grindstone,â he mutters, burying his face into his knee. Â He couldnât even figure out how and why Warren would have felt that way toward him. âIf anything, I should be jealous, but I canât. Â I know how Howl feels about Warren.â Â What was he going to do? Â Could he even act like nothing had changed? Â That everything was normal after learning about what Warren felt.
He drops back onto the bed, staring up at the ceiling, trying to work out how he was going to get through this Grindstone. Â âMaybe Warren wonât be there.â Â He reaches up to rub at the veining scars along the left side of his face. Â He knew he didnât have that kind of luck. Â âOk, John. Â Stop over thinking things. Â Just make like none what Howl told you happen. Â Act normal and Warren shouldnât know that you know,â he told himself. Â He closes his eyes, willing sleep to come to him.
John ended up not sleeping at all that night.
