Weirdly i awoke at 2am on Monday (28th March 2016) in a YHA hostel in North Wales with loud ringing in my right ear, though it took me to the following morning to realise this was actually complete hearing loss.
Naturally I was worried and by the early evening on the advice of my boyfriend, I called 111 to talk to them about what to do, they referred me to an out of hours GP service at Royal Preston Hospital who they sent me urgently up to the ENT ward to see a doctor.
What followed was 24 hours of traipsing around the bowels of the hospital between the various A&E, ENT wards and departments.
Looks like sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) and hearing tests show I have a profound loss in my right ear - so i've been prescribed a very high dose of prednisone steroids for 5 days (72 taken pills already) so see if it will help, but if it doesn't, it looks like i'll be adjusting to a life with unilateral hearing loss or single side deafness - which is quite frankly a scary prospect.
