The Parallels between the Edo sorcerers.
While some JJK fans love to debate, scale character either horribly or too greatly and overall throw some jokes/slander for us to enjoy, the other side of the fandom like to see the beautiful writing that Gege does in his story- even if it was rare at times, considering how the story becomes at the end.
But, what I don't see is the fans seeing the parallels between Kashimo Hajime and Ryu Ishigori.
What I mean by this? Well, I actually see them as different sides of the same coin-and how their greed eventually became their death. First, let me show you...
--------------------------------------------------
Ryu Ishigori.
Everybody's favourite new character, and every's Larper favourite. And well, he's my favourite aswell.
The thing with Ishigori is, despite him admitting that while he met a good woman, fighting against " strong" opponents, those things simply couldn't satisfy him. Even when he didn't had any regrets. Ryu symbolises unsatisfaction. He symbolises what some feel about their lives. Sure, we may not hate it- but if we had the choice, we would pick another life- a life that'll satisfy our greedy desires, to satisfy our needs. Yet, Ryu didn't had that choice- well.. up until the Culling Games.
Fighting against Yuta, and even losing to Him-Yuta was the Dessert he had been looking for. The one who satisfied him with a battle that pushed him to the limits, and making him feel a spark that was never there before- yet it burnt brighter then any sun in the universe. But...
Even then... Ishigori's hunger wanted more.
Even when Sukuna, the strongest of all, the KING of cursed appeared, Ryu couldn't let himself walk away- run away like Uro. So... he approached him.
Sukuna threw a casual dismantle at Him- yet, Ryu... tanked the hit, only having a slash across his torso? Well, what a suprise. It even caught the strongest in history off guard.
Apologising to Ryu, saying he will take him seriously now and of which.. before Ryu could even shoot his blast towards him- Sukuna's hand touched his face, as Cleave was activated- ending Ryu's life.
--------------------------------------------------
Kashimo Hajime.
Kashimo's greed was noticeable, as he thought that a battle with the strongest would finally satisfy him. Yet, defeating opponent after opponent, that satisfaction never came.
Sure, Kashimo wasn't the strongest of his era- hell, no one knew who it was. Was it Ryu? Well, possibly... but Kashimo's old age was catching up to him, making him impatient as Kenkaju suggested that Kashimo rercarnated in 400 years... to fight..
.. The Dishonoured One.
Fighting Sukuna after his battle against Gojo, Kashimo's curiousity peaked Sukuna's interest- like a teacher to a student-
" Were you born the strongest...
.. or did you gain that title? "
Sukuna's love for battle was known. Even for a century. So, he decided to play into Kashimo's little game- telling him that he simply didn't know, as he was born a unwanted child- a wicked one, at that.
And even then... with as the King of Cursed returned to his Heian form- boosting his physical stats while not healing his output, CE or even any of his brain injuries- it appeared as he was simply too much for the God of lighting.. throwing net of Dismantles at Kashimo.. ending his life aswell.
--------------------------------------------------
You guys see the theme?
Ryu was humble. That's for sure. A warrior known for his thirst for a Dessert that he had yearned for, yet he never stopped complimenting his opponent's strength. Even meeting a good woman, marrying her- he still felt that he.. lacked something. Like.. a hole was being left in his life. Which was his downfall.
Kashimo was arrogant. Seeing those " weaker " as pile of worms, to the point of removing himself from everybody as his thirst for THAT battle was his cause of loneliness, as he felt emptier by the day until he drew his final breaths- and his eventual downfall aswell.
" Different sides of the same coin. "
It's a quote that makes me believe that's what Gege was going for with these two characters. Considering they're both from the EDO period, it's possibly that Gege wanted more symbolism- specifically , a parallel between the two.
