As a Sudanese living in Egypt, my heart aches every day for the people of Sudan - both those still enduring unimaginable hardship back hoke,
We were able to help them reach last months goal on gfm to split the funds amongst the families, but still fell short for the community kitchen. Inflation has risen again due to Sudan's Council of Ministers banning the import of goods they've labled as "luxury items." This list contains food and nutrition items like milk, juice, and even certain fruits and vegetables. These bans will affect the operating costs of the community kitchen going forward and will make it harder for them to afford food for the community.

Call of Dutyâs newest installment is set in a renewed Korean War. But Modern Warfare 4 isnât just a gameâitâs a forecast of the genocidal war the US is planning for Korea.
The gameâs release trailer shows shocking images of North Korea striking civilian areasâbut it was the US that leveled almost every standing building in the north during the Korean War. COD MW4 is part of a larger project to obscure the reality of the Korean War, which was a war waged by the US occupation against Koreans who resisted its division of the country.
Far from a game, millions of Koreans today still live in the distended shadow of the ongoing warâa war that the US is actively stoking the flames for with hundreds of escalatory war games.
This is not the first time COD has completely revised history. In 2019, the franchise laundered the infamous Highway of Death as a massacre by the Russiansânot as was in reality, the US.
COD is part of a larger military-entertainment complex that spans the entire entertainment industry from movies to video games, through which the Pentagon actively shapes the narratives of games like MW4 that serve as public relations shields for US imperialism.
Games like Call of Duty also condition young people for recruitment, which recruiters take advantage of by infiltrating gaming platforms, public schools, and gaming conventions. Youth enter the military hoping to be heroes, only to be the worldâs most dangerous terrorists.
Itâs no coincidence that COD MW4 is set in Korea while US war threats in the region are at an all time high. Many of us are outraged by this depiction of the Korean Warâbut our task now is to build organized opposition to US imperialism by raising consciousness and solidarity.
everyone saying âsheâs got a pointâ is similarly participating in a sort of undeserved literary snobbery that belies any actual understanding of the function and popular reception of the novel as a form since its inception.
I am saying this as someone who has never once picked up a âpopular on booktokâ canva art romance novel, and rarely reads any 21st century literature at allâwho finds a lot of contemporary anglophone lit to be banal, obnoxious, and utterly tedious. I couldnât care less about the artistic merits of fanfiction as âlegitimate literatureâ either way, and I find the âcharacter-firstâ approach to storytelling most people in fandom circles employ to be reductive and a bit exhaustingâŠ
if you seriously think that the kinds of people writing gay fanfiction on ao3 about the main characters from a mainstream hollywood production are the same kinds of people who would otherwise be experimenting with the form of the novel in artistically groundbreaking ways, then I really donât know what to tell you. and if you think the phenomenon of novels being written for the emotional (and sexual) gratification of women being derided as a perversion of an otherwise elite artform is a new phenomenon that sprung up within the past decade, then you obviously donât know enough about the history of literature to be making these kinds of claims with such dismissive arrogance.
the form of the novel, especially novels by women, especially novels by women for women involving romance, have long been trivialized in the popular consciousness for lacking the kind of artistic merit that disqualifies it from being considered âreal literature.â whether such novels are artistically lacking or not is entirely subjective and beside the point. claiming that popular entertainment primarily produced and enjoyed by women and girls has rotted their brains and debased their potential intellectual engagement with âhigherâ artforms is a notion repeated by every generation, and itâs equally ridiculous every time! least of all because there are still plenty of women in the world who care about the craft of literature and artistic experimentation within the form of the novel. and some of them even like fanfiction, also.
Consumer choices are not praxis 4 sure but if u in no way apply your principles to your life in a meaningful capacity, those more principled than you in that regard are probably going to judge you for it a little and youâre just going to have to get okay with that and then go get your Labubu Dubai chocolate McChicken with the Sodastream matcha on the side or whatever knowing you will be judged for it
