You're not wrong Jonah... regrettably. But you knew Tim wouldn't listen nor would Jon stop him, you knew that the Unknowing wouldn't work and you knew that Tim would do anything to stop the thing that killed his brother. You knew, but you wanted to be sure of a mark, and of Jon's power. So you pushed, giving just enough inforamtion for them to run off into the Unknowing, which killed Tim. You might not have explicitly been the one to kill him, and Jon and Tim are to blame to as well, but you were the puppeteer pulling the strings.

Of course I wanted the mark on Jon. It was the only intended outcome.

The matter of Tim on the otherhand was, he was deliberately left out of the planning for the Unknowing's disruption.

I may have given him a cloyingly distressful work environment, but when it comes down to it, what that man gets up to outside of work hours is generally his own business.

I don't want my words confused when I say GerryElias and definitely not when I say things like JonElias. I do NOT ship Jonah with Gerry or Jon, but the fact that Mag fans used Elias' name when they mean Jonah makes my life 100x harder.

Someone came up with Useless Eyes for Eric Delano/Elias Bouchard. And from what I understand it can't really be used for Eric/Jonah.

I feel silly, but I think about him so freaking much. Why is ELias Bouchard of all blorbo what brings me such comfort?

I had a dream that I was just scanning things for him, and yk what I was so happy. I was like yay this is so exciting.

I had another dream where he made me coffee and I could just die 11/10 experience.

I went through an identity crisis because of him I won't even LIE. He has caused me suffering. When I was on my period, I was randomly thinking to myself "I don't think Elias would like me." THEN, I started crying profusely. To be fair, I am really sensitive to literally everything on my period. Anyway, it's cool. I'm just emotional over him or whatever.

Pain demands to be felt, you're still here. You survived for the better. Tribulations of the flesh can be disquieting but we’re all going through changes. Each comes with its own challenges, but they can be overcome.

So I feel like sharing cause idk if anyone else has aphantasia but I do, and it sucks. I can’t imagine SHIT in my mind it’s more physical and emotional. So instead of seeing something I feel it instead. Like if I imagine Jonathan I can imagine the feeling of him sitting in a chair, and feeling the old school style desk chair with creaky wheels and the smell of old paper and books and a soft sweater over a button up shirt, and his panic, I can feel it and I can’t tell you what I think he looks like, I can only tell you the emotions and the colors and scents I feel

How can you feel colors? I just feel like he’s pale sage green and soft cream brown. Where? Idk. Maybe I’ll try drawing what I “see” instead of how normal people supposedly visualize in their head?

Why don’t you take a different approach, feel and see the colours but shape them into the forms you feel are right. Slowly you take and carve a little more out until you’ve sculpted them in your mind.

Instead of fighting with yourself, lean into your inner vision. See what works and go from there.

When the Elias episode came out I was in love. I was so interested in this character we knew nothing about, AND YA'LL HATED HIM!

Fuck- Elias people acted like Elias was either a completely unlikable stoner or a completely unlikable asshole. People got mad if you shipped him with ANYONE. People would get mad at me because I would say nice things about him. Sometimes (actually it still happens a lot) I can literally say the words, "I'm talking about Elias, not Jonah" and people just. . . ignore it, and then go on with the idea that I'm talking about Jonah.

Elias Bouchard was a guy who smoked weed in college, he's a bit slower than other people, he has had little to no socializing in his life, his dad is a dick, and he's entitled.

Ya'll looked at that! a very normal description of a man, and made him out to be just EVIL. WHAT DID HE DO!

So did I miss something or was Jonah's ritual awful? I mean the other avatars at least put work into theirs the dark literally sent people to space and the flesh found a disturbing amount of meat and either a sinkhole or they just dug a massive hole. I mean even Peter's was better. At least he planned it out. Jonah's plan was literally get a guy to be hated and then stabbed by as many people as possible and then trick him into reading poetry

i wanna talk about tma characters and the concept of a facade. because i have a lot of thoughts.

so most people understand how ironic it is to characterize martin blackwood as a soft boy that can do no wrong, because one of the most interesting parts of his character is how much of a subversion of that trope he is. he's manipulating people by acting like that. this is addressed in the canon. he wants everyone to like him, and he knows he'll almost always get what he wants if he puts up this facade.

something people talk about a bit less, but is still equally canon, is that gertrude robinson was doing basically the same thing. pretending to be just a boring old woman, when she's actually extremely clever and ruthless. she plays into everyone's pre-existing biases and assumptions masterfully to hide just how competent she really is. she knows exactly what she's doing, and she's willing to sacrifice anything and anyone for the sake of her self-appointed mission. characterizing her as a grandmother figure is the funniest form of irony to me.

but do you know who isn't putting up a facade? do you know who isn't changing their behavior to affect your idea of them?

peter lukas isn't pretending to be passive-aggressive and overly cheery, he just kind of...is. why would he ever bother putting up a facade? he doesn't want people to like him. his authentic self is this talkative yet asocial man, who specifically aims to be awkward and unlikeable.

people say that simon fairchild's polite and carefree demeanor is an act, but i really don't think that's true either. i guess i might see it differently because i personally resonate the most with the vast out of all the fears, but i really think that a lot of that behavior makes perfect sense for his character. he doesn't think that anything in life matters. his personality reflects the lightness and carefree nature of that mindset. he just doesn't care. he does everything for fun. he's not pretending to be anything he isn't.

this could be me reaching, but honestly, i don't think even jonah magnus is putting up that much of a facade. he's lying, sure. he's manipulating people, obviously. but he's not changing his behavior in order to do that. even in mag 160, there's no big, henry mildmay-esque "dropping of the act" when he has his monologue. if you look at his behavior as elias bouchard, it's exactly the same as the little bits of him that we get to see in s5. the elias whose last words are "good luck" is the exact same elias as the one who always greeted basira with "hello, detective".

You see, you're almost correct about me. Yet you failed to acknowledge the nuance of the dropped act in 158, Panopticon. Up until that point the rumours of Jonah Magnus's life and death weren't confirmed. People assumed that Elias Bouchard was another individual conscripted into the Institute lead there by his fears. It was most definitely an act, aided by the skepticism and ignorance of the world at large. And yet you continue to fail in your acknowledgement by proceeding to utilise Elias as a name for me. The differentiation is critical. Identity is, admittedly, confusing. Concurrently, the only compatriot out of the two others you listed that shares this level of obfuscation is Simon. His identity is obscured and co-opted similarly. Whereas I used my assumed persona for longevity, he specifically states he uses it for financial resources. At face value, Simon and I are the same.
