Pygmalion and Galatea, Oil on Canvas (1819)
Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson (1767–1824) completed this oil painting in 1819. It captures the mythological climax when Pygmalion's ivory statue comes to life through Aphrodite's blessing. The work is a key example of an artistic transition. It combines Neoclassical draftsmanship with the emotional intensity and luminous atmosphere of Romanticism. Loc. Louvre Museum, since 1819.
