Aaron left Diane to get back to her hoovering and ran upstairs. He shoved all the clothes on the floor into the wardrobe, put the plastic bottles and crisp packets littering the side table into the bin and wiped every surface with an anti-bacterial wipe. He surveyed his handiwork once he was done. It’ll have to do, he reckoned, there was a limit to the amount of effort he was willing to put in and he’d reached his. It was just as well, in that moment he heard John’s voice coming in from downstairs. “He’s doing as well as can be expected,” said John. “He woke up briefly while I was there, was a bit confused though, I tried to explain what happened but I don’t think he understood.” Aaron listened in as he started to make his way downstairs with a couple of dirty mugs and bowls, hoping to take them to the sink without comment. “I suppose that’s the best we can hope for,” said Diane. “He’s been through worse, you know. He’s a survivor, our Robert.” Aaron walked in at that moment, as John shot Diane half a smile and Aaron felt a bit like he was intruding. John gave Aaron a slight eyebrow raise when he noticed the crockery in Aaron’s hands but didn’t say anything. He simply waited for Aaron to put them in the sink and then leaned in for a hug.

i've kind of been thinking that the workplace bullying storyline should have taken place at the depot because then it could have taken place in the village and involved more characters from the outset, and not had to snowball the way it has.

#in theory i like the idea of an ongoing storyline taking place in the hospital #because then you get whichever characters end up there dipping in and out of the storyline as required #emmerdale

Robron: marketed as the future of the soap, acts more like frat bros than fiances, barely have a serious conversation.

Vinny and Lewis: their entire relationship has taken place off screen and when they come back they've moved ahead 100 paces just to disappear again only for Vinny to be axed ending the relationship.

Vanessa: Is ignored most of the time and when she does get a love interest they cheat (or worse apparently).

Mary: Again ignored, all of her love interests end up dead or fucking her over.

Matty: His wife died less than a year after they were married and he didn't even get a storyline about it.

Suzy and Ethan: both queer POCs end up dead.

Suni: another queer POC is gaybashed.

Now you have Charity, who has been abused multiple times throughout her life, being sexually assaulted by a woman during Pride Month.

emmerdale let a plot actually have a resolution before starting a new one and thus diluting the original point to nothing challenge

not that it's a competition but casualty did a much better and more coherent workplace bully/predator storyline last year

honestly sometimes there's no better feeling than rereading a fic you've written and coming out of it going, "yeah that actually this DOES slap. exactly what i wanted to read. fucking nailed it."
