"came back wrong" but it's from work
getting PTSD flashbacks because of gravity falls is diabolical
Have you ever gotten everything you ever wanted?
No, but i once gotten very close
Hi handsome
Sam wakes up in the archivesverse. Hospitalized. He's just barely processed that he is in the worst physical state of his life. He realizes Alice is sitting next to the hospital bed. They had called up his emergency contact, which is her, and she came down. Except she's.... different? Something is off. Her hair is different. Her clothes are different. And she's talking to him weirdly, almost accusingly. And then he realizes someone else is in the room.
It's him. There's a second Sam.
Turns out the Alice of this world has the same number as the Alice he knows.
Cue Sam living with archivesverse sam and alice who are doing surprisingly well and are also Very Much Romantically Involved Right Now
also sam has Definitely been fused with the archivist thing and everyone just slowly realizes this over time while he's living there and it's bad <3
thinking about Jonathan Sims and Samama Khalid.
Thinking about how, by all laws of Horror Story Trope, Jon should not be the protagonist. If I'd never heard of tma and you showed me a lineup of the archives crew and asked me to guess who died first I would have pointed to Jon. He's the paranoid professor archetype. The one who dies discovering some crucial bit of information at the beginning to push the plot forward. He's unfriendly, cowardly, insecure, and makes other people do his investigation for him for all of season 1. He doesn't do anything even remotely heroic until the second half of the show. He has no interest in romance for the first half of the show. The audience wasn't even aware Jon had a dark past until he starts telling us about A Guest for Mr. Spider. But he is *Chosen.* Despite the fact that he has no actual qualities of a hero, he's chosen as the eyes special boy. Over the course of the show he starts to become more and more like an actual protagonist. He starts trying to save the world, resist the eye, all that jazz. For one reason or another, being the Archivist turns Jonathan "definition of a side character" Sims into the main character.
Then we have Sam. Sam starts acting like a horror/mystery protagonist almost immediately. He is young, charming, has a mysterious past (that we are made aware of pretty much right away) and a curiosity that causes him to frequently put himself personally in the path of The Horrors. He pokes around where he doesn't belong and looks for clues. He's the center of an office love triangle for goodness sake. He has a strong sense of duty to others and will put himself in harms way to protect those he loves. He exudes main character energy. He has everything a horror protagonist needs to push the plot along. But Sam wasn't *Chosen.* Despite being exactly the person you'd expect the plot to follow. And I can't help but wonder if, in the same way that the narrative made Jon important, it's going to make Sam unimportant. Irrelevant. If, with his rejection from The Magnus Institute, Sam is going to disappear completely. Become a mystery.
Because at the end of the day, so much of your life, your impact on the world, your relevance, has absolutely nothing to do with you. So much of it has everything to do with those in power, and whether they decide you're important.
It all comes down to your own rotten luck.
all i can say is this finale has made my interest in samcelia as a ship skyrocket. youāre telling me i get to relisten to the season knowing sheās planning to sacrifice him pretty much the entire time? at which point does that plan start to take shape? when is she fully sure sheās planning to tear him right out of his life, away from his friends, everyone he knows, his entire world? to send him to a world which she might still think is a literal torture apocalypse? she watched him play with jack knowing that she was going to trade samās whole life and world for staying with jack and sam had no idea? and she still fell in love with sam despite her plan! and despite actually liking him she still kept going with that plan to sacrifice him because she was so desperate not to be dragged back to her world!! and despite so desperately wanting to stay she still told him the truth at the end and couldnāt bring herself to just push him immediately and get it over with!!! and despite finding out about all of it sam still sacrificed himself for her anyway like FUCK!!!!!
Alice keeps just avoiding important info. There's Teddy and Colin getting interrupted by her concern for Sam, of course, but there's also her arriving just a little too late to learn Celia's role in what happened.
So⦠is Alice supernaturally avoidant of the info or just unlucky?
It's spooky interference.
It's just rotten luck.
So that finale huh?
You know what drives me insane about fandoms nowadays??? That I can give any critiques on characters or even make simple fucking observations without it being taken like Iām staking all of my morality on my opinions of them.
Right now Iām talking about The Magnus Archives specifically. I LIKE that the characters are a bunch of traumatized fucked up hypocrites that canāt communicate for shit because thatās literally what make this story a horror story and not just sci-fi fantasy or action. What made this horror was the characters each being isolated in their own little trauma bubbles when an easy solution to the entire thing would have been teamwork, patience, understanding, and explosives.
I LIKE Daisy and Basira BECAUSE OF THEIR CHARACTER FLAWS. Daisy is an actual crooked cop that kills when she sees fit and gets away with it like actual cops do and Basira covers for her and makes excuses just like āgood copsā actually do. Both of them are hypocrites and part of the fear/suspense in the story was not knowing if Basira really would try to kill Jon or āput him downā like an animal which is so fucking ironic considering what Daisy is.
I LIKE that Melanie was an insulting ass to him right off the bat and that she blamed Jon for her being there when it literally wasnāt his fault at all. I finally get to see a female character with actual anger issues just like we see men with anger issues in media constantly and it added to the story brilliantly
And I LIKE that Martin has huge manipulation and trust issues that bleed into his relationship with Jon in season 4 and 5 and he says things that are downright hurtful to Jon to get him to do what he wants even though he thinks itās whatās best for Jon. Itās one of the only examples Iāve seen in media where someone who suffered abuse as a child wasnāt made into a āsympathetic villainā or a can-do-no-wrong character.
And donāt even get me started on Jonās flaws, others go into that area much better than I could. But I LIKE that he went off the walls crazy in season 2 because if Janeās worms hadnāt made him toxic to be around and paranoid he would have come to the conclusion that he needed to trust and work with other people much sooner and the whole story would probably have been a lot less of a horror story and more of a found family sci-fi.
Iām really tired of people acting like all queer characters have to be perfect role models that spew therapy talk and shit rainbows and anybody that doesnāt make post condemning their ātoxicā behavior must also be a bad person, or the other way around where you canāt criticize any characters actions without other people in the fandom taking it like a personal attack. If you want to be spoon fed wholesome media that isnāt problematic or whatever go watch cat videos or something but Iām not going to justify my appreciation for characters every time I post about them. Iāve literally stopped myself from posting any fanfics Iāve wanted to because I didnāt want to deal with all the crap and Iāve decided that I donāt care anymore.
The Magnus Protocol
