Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere
So some fanartist drew a âsexyâ (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because itâs kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what theyâre into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their âopponentsââ accounts.
So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a childrenâs education charity via each sideâs portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.
And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the âfreedom of expressionâ side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)
you have to forgive the printer because it's one of the most machine-ass machines we interact with on a day to day basis. that thing says kerchunk. hardly anything says kerchunk these days. you can't get mad at her when she kerchunks up a little.

every time someone makes a post that operates on the assumption that dom/sub or s/m dynamics exist in opposition to âbeing niceâ âbeing lovingâ âbeing sweetâ or âtaking care of each otherâ they should have to venmo me and all of my friends $50 each

people literally act like the bar for âkinkyâ is that the characters need to turn and announce to the camera that they are about to engage in kink. what do you fucking want? do they need to be negotiating safewords and making fetlife accounts onscreen for you to believe that there is dynamic-y shit happening??? jacob tierney âthis is not a documentaryâ quote dot jpeg. thatâs not what weâre doing here. no one is asking u to believe that they are canonically engaging in lifestyle bdsm total power exchange and going to play parties every weekend but youâre actually fucking illiterate if you think thereâs not a clear pattern of domination and submission occurring onscreen. you donât even have to engage with it in your fic and meta if you donât want to, but you have to stop acting like the people who pick up on this and DO engage are somehow inventing a dynamic out of thin air. if you donât want to be in a fandom with textual kink you can literally go pick one of the thousands of other media properties where thereâs 0 sex onscreen but iâm sooo tired of being treated like iâm crazy in my own house

Kurt Vonnegut wrote: âWhen I was 15, I spent a month working on an archeological dig. I was talking to one of the archeologists one day during our lunch break and he asked those kinds of âgetting to know youâ questions you ask young people: Do you play sports? Whatâs your favorite subject? And I told him, no I donât play any sports. I do theater, Iâm in choir, I play the violin and piano, I used to take art classes.
And he went WOW. Thatâs amazing! And I said, âOh no, but Iâm not any good at ANY of them.â
And he said something then that I will never forget and which absolutely blew my mind because no one had ever said anything like it to me before: âI donât think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think youâve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.â
And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadnât been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could âWinâ at them.
In all male environments, such as mining camps or navy ships, it was common for men to hold dances, with half the men wearing a patch or some other marker to designate them as the âwomenâ for the evening. (x)
My alma mater, Wilson College, was a womenâs college, and I know that they used to do this, too. A lot of the dance events that I go to nowadays there are more women than men, so similar steps are taken to make it easier to find a partner. At contra dances someone brings a bag of pre-tied ties, and women who are acting the part of men in that set wear a tie (itâs really necessary when you switch partners to know that yes, you ARE supposed to have ended up with this person!). At swing dances women often lead other women, and Iâve known a number of men who were learning to follow and would ask other men or women that they knew could lead to lead them. No clothing designation needed there, however. :)
To clarify: in swing dance, you dance in partners, and thatâs usually it. So as long as one of you leads and one follows, youâre fine. And in fact, in swing, they have switched from calling them âmenâ and âwomenâ to âleadsâ and âfollowsâ. Itâs more complicated in contradance because you are in partners, but those partners also dance with other partners and you keep dancing with more and more people. So itâs often really helpful to have some kind of visual indicator of who is dancing the âmenâs partâ or the âwomenâs partâ, especially if youâve got a lot of beginners who might accidentally end up in the wrong place in the dance. Thus the neckties. :)
pinched cheek

This orchard was an accident: Harry Potter spit the stony pit of a plum walking past a grove of black-eye birches and maybe there was some magic in his spit because next spring Draco Malfoy has a ball of plum blossoms pinking his forest canopy like a pinched cheek.Â

we need to invent a way to explain how deep running and pervasive and subliminal racism and antiblackness is without immediately sounding like an insane conspiracy theorist
female characters are always lighter than male characters. strong characters are almost always dark. aggressive characters are almost always dark. peaceful and intelligent characters are almost always light. even amongst darker characters the lightest one is usually either the leader or the girls. dark is evil and light is good.
if you try to explain this to a white person they look at you like youre insane
briefly pursuing a career in animation radicalized me on this. So many stories from the industry about how you have to start with your character design as dark as possible, because INEVITABLY you'll get "notes" from higher-ups asking you to make them lighter.
In a class about making a pitch bible my teacher once role-played as a shitty executive with a classmate, pressing them in intentionally abrasive ways about why they made their characters diverse. He emphasized that we had to learn to defend these things, because the racism in the industry is extremely deliberate.
